DVD Day: December 2nd, 2008

You can buy about 10 different Wanted sets, but this one (also available in Blu-ray, like everything else nowadays) has all the extra shit on the right. This is #1 in my Netflix queue, mainly because Mark Millar writes the ultimate stories for my inner 14-year-old.
• Prince Caspian
And the Narnia franchise grinds to a halt, because no one ever read anything other than The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. The 3-disc edition is one of those "digital edition" deals, so Narnia-philes shouldn't get too excited.
• The X-Files: I Want to Believe
Chris Carter decides to make an X-Files movie a decade after the last one, but tied into nothing about the show's mythology. Great call! Another 3-disc, digital copy deal.
• Metalocalypse Season 2
Have I told you guys I love the idea of the show, but can't understand a word they're saying? It makes me feel very old.
• The Day the Earth Stood Still
A 2-disc edition trying to piggyback on the Keanu Reeve's re-make, which I'm terrified to admit to myself I'm begrudgingly interested in. Keanu should only play idiots or aliens.
• The Man Called Flintstone
Fred Flintstone as a super spy. Let's just call it "ancient fan fiction," and move on.

Comments
you forgot stepbrothers, which is one of the funniest movies of the year.
Posted 12/02/2008 at 09:48:24 AMI sort of liked Prince Caspian. They should really do 3 movies. After, Voyage of the Dawn Treader...the books get really religious.
Posted 12/02/2008 at 10:46:45 AMYeah, I want none of this. Some good stuff came out in the animu department.
Posted 12/02/2008 at 10:55:31 AMMetalocalypse is easily one of the best things Adult Swim has going for it--I often watch it subtitled by default because my wife is sleeping next to me, which helps me understand it, but you do then miss out on the pitch-perfect death metal parodies. That and The Venture Brothers are the reason I keep watching.
Posted 12/02/2008 at 11:23:33 AMI love Metalocalypse. Definitely one of my favorite shows. I couldn't understand them at first, but you get used to it fast. Wanted was good as could be expected from a supervillain movie without supervillains.
Posted 12/02/2008 at 01:12:17 PM...and X-Files 2 sucked hard.
TR, the link for Wanted links to "The Man Called Flintstone."
Posted 12/02/2008 at 06:14:18 PMHey- sort of off the subject, but the other day I was screening the Punisher movie, and another critic told me he had a friend who had just seen a trade of The Day the Earth Stood Still- and everybody hated it! Still, it's just a Trade copy, but that does not bode well, me thinks.

The Day the Earth Stood Still wasn't really intended to be an action movie. That's probably why they hated it. The original was more about how the human race would respond to the knowledge that aliens exist, and how the aliens would see us. The new movie looks more action-oriented than hard Sci-Fi.
Incidentally, when I saw Keanu Reeves hooked up to the lie detector test in the preview, all that was going through my mind was "ask him if he knows kung-fu."
