Marvel Likes the Japanese Girls
Posted at 2:30 PM Dec 02, 2008
So DC Direct's Ame-Comi line--where DC superheroines are re-imagined in exceedingly goofy anime style--has done pretty well for itself, selling enough to justify I think about 10 or so figures. Now, I have some friends in the industry who swear that DC's figures are sculpted by actual Japanese people, but it's very hard for me to look at them and not see some Antarctic Press/DC cross-over nonsense.
At any rate, Marvel is getting into the anime-style superheroine merchandise game, with this new Rogue statue. It might be lacking the huge mallets and swords and shit of Ame-Comi, but it's definitely made by a Japanese sculptor, which I think I'd prefer were I going to buy anime-style statues of American comic book women. Rogue's due next June for $60; let me know in the comments if you want me to cover more of these gals.

OMG YES! i've been waiting for figures like this!
Posted 12/02/2008 at 11:41:04 AMI wonder why the x-men logo on her chest was put on post image. What's up with that?
Posted 12/02/2008 at 11:43:52 AMYES PLEASE!
Posted 12/02/2008 at 11:51:53 AMNice. Yeah, please cover more!
Posted 12/02/2008 at 11:59:47 AMI was stoked when they announced the whole Ami-com thing for DC, too bad all the figures look like Taiwanese knock-offs.
Looks like Marvel actually did it right!
Way to drop the ball DC! (AGAIN!)
These are not japanese, look how small the racks are. I mean if it was actually from Japan it you would need an extra stand to support the weight of her chest.
Posted 12/02/2008 at 12:09:45 PMAlso why are you all getting so excited about this, I get the nerd love but it is bordering creepy.
Yes!
Posted 12/02/2008 at 12:31:50 PMMore.
In so many words.
YES!
Posted 12/02/2008 at 12:46:46 PM... please
love... it...
her face looks like a Shunya Yamashita design.
Is this a Diamond Select Toy?
Posted 12/02/2008 at 12:54:42 PMPlease cover this forever. I love that picture!

Posted 12/02/2008 at 12:57:04 PMWow. Hot. I'm impressed. I vote for more info.
Posted 12/02/2008 at 01:14:23 PMDefinitely more coverage if the figures look like this, this is a blessing from Viking Jesus.
Posted 12/02/2008 at 01:20:04 PMHmm...the figure is undeniably sexy (the black fingertips freak me out, though. Does she have frostbite?) but it feels like they took all the attitude out of Rogue in this. That saddens me.
Posted 12/02/2008 at 01:45:51 PMAmazingly cool figure. Maybe they'll do Nocturne or Magma soon... maybe shadowcat, too. ^_^
Posted 12/02/2008 at 02:35:49 PMLooks like my vote No is going to be destroyed by all the crazy anime fans.
Bah.
Posted 12/02/2008 at 02:44:12 PMFinally!
MORE!!!
MORE!!!
Waaay better than Ame-Comi.
Posted 12/02/2008 at 05:44:13 PMWow someone finally got it right! Instead of a metal thong and giant glossy eyes, this actually looks like a Japanese sculpt!
Posted 12/02/2008 at 06:17:04 PMAstrokender, Marvel's taken and restored Rogue's attitude on their own for ages.
And too true about the Antarctic Press reference. A lot of those DC statues seemed to have Ben Dunn smeared all over them.
Posted 12/02/2008 at 06:36:44 PMmore pls :D
what a amazing combination of comic n anime style figure ,
Posted 12/02/2008 at 11:07:57 PMstill cute n sexy even without big eyes or short skirts.
Its very creepy. But, I could be wrong, so I'll need to see more, lots more, to confirm it. Thanks!
Posted 12/02/2008 at 11:28:30 PMYes, more.
Posted 12/03/2008 at 03:40:33 AMDamn it... I wish they would stop with the anime style crap.... I love anime and I love comics, but they don't mix... :(
