I'm positivly surprised I must say

I concur with "yawn"- a 4-legged Eva with a vertical posture seems massively counter-intuitive. Why not have a four-legged Eva with a horizontal torso? It could look like a lynx, a panther, etc. The pic looks like they were attempting a praying mantis, which makes tons of sense, I think, but why even bother? Evangelion ended years ago, and like the recent TR list about Pokemon, has been excessively ripped off.

Do people even consider the original movie ending to be canon? I thought Hideaki Anno had said he created the ending as a response to the death threats and other things he had received for the ending to the original series. It was basically a way to say "Fuck you I'mma do what I want!"

Why won't they just let that stupid franchise die already? After fifteen years of crappy statues of 14-year-old-girls in various stages of undress, this show is long past a dignified death.

So with Marsten. Eva is a hugely overrated dead horse Gainax cannot stop beating. The new unit is crap, which makes it no worse than any of the others.

I like those crappy statues of 14-year-old-girls in various stages of undress....... this show itself is nothing special but Rei has been my favorite fictional / real life character since I first watched this show years ago, she's the only good thing about it :(

The question being: why? Merely for the new series?

I'll have to go look this up. Reboot or reanimation? Does this mean 03 and his pilot still dies horribly? I can only hope so. One of the best episodes in the series.

Obviously, Gainax will milk these new movies for all they're worth. I won't blame them for being greedy; after all, they're only allowed to do this because of the people who do buy all those statues of 14-year old girls. On the other hand, I will curse Gainax if the rest of their new movies turn out to be crap. The first was decent enough.

@ Snath: Both the movie and TV endings are canon. They're separate canons; or, you can interpret it as both endings happening at once, with the movie portraying what's happening in the real world and the TV ending representing the mental states of the characters. Personally, I just go with the movie ending since a) I like it more and b) the first half follows the original script Gainax had for Episode 25. Due to censorship problems (not financial problems, which is a popular myth), Gainax was not allowed to air the original episode they had planned and were forced to go with the strange mess we ended up with. The second half of the movie, though, was written partly as a response to the people who sent Anno death threats.

Y'know, at leats there will be a reason to watch the movies now. It will be a whole new what if? continuity, as opposed to just a shinier rehash of everything you've already seen.

This is lame...Though, this will make me want to watch the whole series (including those "movies") non-stop, while shooting junk...

That would be an amazing design if it didn't have four awkward legs. Also, lance hand and hook hand? Sheesh. GAINAX needs to just let NGE die out with some dignity. I blame the Japanese for bowing down to Evangelion as its god STILL today. Tokyo was full of fliers everywhere for the previous Eva movie.

Ok, look, how the hell are they supposed to explain this one? I mean, Eva's were created from Adam, right? and you can clearly see Adam as Bi-pedal in the pictures of him. Two legs, two arms. What the hell, Gainax?

I agree with you about liking the original ending to Evangelion. I also liked The End of Evangelion (although I was deeply angered by the fact that I wasted $30 on Death and Rebirth.) I even liked the fact that they kept making sexy-looking (and out of character) figurines of Rei, Asuka, and Misato. This new series looks mediocre and highly disappointing...I won't be wasting any more of my hard-earned cash on it.

Well, it looks very weird. But I hope it fares better as an animated character.
As long as EVA keeps selling as much as it does, there will be new stuff like this, so I don't see why everyone keeps "blaming" Gainax; they're trying to make a living with good investiments (hilariously inappropriate figures of Rei and Asuka were Japan's biggest export in the nineties, right under cup noodles and videogames).

To be frank, it looks silly. I bet it still looks amazing in the movie. I'm just wondering if this means we won't get an updated design for the original Unit-05.

Toji died in the manga series, not the anime. Oops, spoiler, I guess.

I guess since they never really made a big deal out of Unit-05's designation in Death and Rebirth/End of Eva, they can still revamp that design and use it. Speaking of cannon fodder, eh?

I think the current speculation is that this Eva is parapalegic, which makes the design make a bit more sense.

Just to let you guys know...you don't HAVE to watch it...if you don't think it is part of Canon, then don't even discuss it.
I have watched the TV series/movies and must say that the new movies (rebirth) are amazing, PenPen FTW!!
The End of Eva was supposed to be what was Literally goin on in the world, while the end of the TV series was what was going on in Shinji's head.

At a recent panel (Ohayocon, I beleive) The American head producer, said that Gainax is releasing all these things, because people WANT more Eva...
I beleive that Gainax knows the majority of their fanbase, and they will stop when people stop buying them.

You people must be high! This thing looks phenominal. It also serves the purpose of truly bringing in new aspects to the series. I was let down by the first re-imagining for its minimal changes (minus angel upgrades). This is definately a big step in the right direction for stirring things up. While Evangelion does get re-marketed way too much, it by all means, deserves the hype and fandom it receives.

PS: Don't knock prepubescent loli albinos and the otaku who love to see them (and own them in figurine form) in various stages of undress. The moe lolicon 2D Complex otaku fandom is one clique you just don't want to mess with... You know; like green peace and women's lib. XD
