My buddy Agent M, king of Twitter, just let me know about the Pride and Prejudice and Zombies: Deluxe Heirloom edition. As you might recall, I thought P&P&Z was utterly brilliant, so I'm pretty much waving my hands around and squealing in delight at the announcement.
Quirk Books is proud to announce Pride and Prejudice and Zombies: The Deluxe Heirloom Edition available on November 1, 2009. This lavish new version will include:
· Additional bone-crunching scenes with 30% more zombie mayhem
· A rich faux leather hardcover with gold foil stamping
· All new stunning full-color illustrations--depicting 15 of the most memorable moments in Pride and Prejudice and Zombies
· A special preface from living author Seth Grahame-Smith about his experience writing PPZ
· And an essay afterword by Dr. Allen Grove, Professor of English Literature at Alfred University
Here's how good P&P&Z was -- I'm genuinely excited at a chance to buy another copy. Double-dipping is all too common nowadays, in DVDs and videogames and toys. 99 times out of 100, no matter how much we love the movie/game/toy in question, we end up a little bitter about having to purchase it a second time with an extra bell or whistle attached. But I tell you right now, I love this book so much I am actually happy to have another way to spend money on it. The pre-order has already sold out, but keep a watch here for more. Pre-order it at Amazon for a mere $16 -- not bad for 30% more zombies.

It was pretty fun, and the counter-intuitive bit is that I actually found myself caring more about the original Jane Austen plot more than the zombies when I was reading it. And I'm not exactly an Austenite.
This book has been a bestseller since it dropped, and I know other houses are trying to clone it (which I think will fail utterly).
Good for Quirk, though, their marketing team is on point.

I was actually supposed to get an Advanced Reader Copy of this thanks to your original post on it and an offer made by a publicist of some sort... And it never came. She emailed me back, got my address, and said she was sending them out soon, and then nothing.
The book was published. I still haven't read it.
Now that it's published, I'd rather get it for Kindle if I actually pay for it... But there's a lot of other books on my "to buy" list that come in before this one.

Awesome!!! I studied Literature in college and I ALWAYS struggled with early British lit, i.e. the works of Jane Austin. Each time I studied British lit., it wasn't until we got to Ian Flemings James Bond that I could stay awake in class. But what we have here is a literary miracle! Taking the Jane Austin classic and seamlessly blending crazy zombie awesomeness. . .it is honestly the first time I have read Pride and Prejudice cover to cover. I mean no disrespect to all of those Jane Austine fans out there, but my college career would have been a hell of a lot easy with more zombies, more ninjas, more violence and more awesomeness.

I want to read this sooo badly, and now I'm having a Pavlovian response at the thought of 30% more zombies. I love the original Pride and Prejuduce, and any opportunity to combine it w. zombies in a perfect storm of awesomness is welcome with open arms(and saliva, apparently).

I laughed my ass off, then actually thought about it, and my mind exploded all over my laptop from the awesomeness. Hey, Keira Knightley's already played Lizzie Bennet before, she can manage perfectly against zombies, I'm sure.

Still, I can't help but think this is a sign that I should have finished that Zombies in Oz book I was writing TEN YEARS AGO. Dammit.

I hate that I love the original Pride and Prejudice...it's just so girly of me. So when I heard on NPR (Wait, Wait Don't Tell Me- it's cool) that this was coming out, I knew I had to read it. I'm waiting for it from the library, but I think I'm going to have to buy the deluxe copy for myself. I thumbed through a copy at the store and I SO want this.

ZeroCorpse: I hear you on that Zombies in Oz book, I've been working on a Great Gatsby/Pokemon mash up, myself. I'm thinking of calling it "The Great Gatsby and His Great Snorlax". Should be pretty excellent; it's about the famed wild Pokemon battles of the roaring 20's and the overindulgent parties on Long Island that accompanied them. I'll keep you guys posted on the progress.

Is there really that much of a difference or is this just marketing? I ask because I literally just received my copy a couple days ago with the new Del Toro book and Prototype, so I'd like to know if I should sell it now and wait some more, or read this and pass on a marketing ploy?

Sadly, while 30% more zombies is appealing, it still falls victim to Romero's First Law of Zombie Satisfaction, usually expressed as the following: Where X = The Number of Zombies Present in Any Given Work and Y = The Number of Zombies Required for Total and Complete Zombie Satisfaction, X is always less than or equal to Y-1.
