I agree with Terjay, this looks like a good primer for Halo. I mean, aliens? Africa? Shit, that's Halo territory right there.

This looks much better than the first teasers made me think it would be. It reminds me of "Alien Nation" with a different spin on it, if anyone else remembers that movie.

If you're interested, the original short film that Neil Blomkamp did as a proof/primer for District 9 can be found at:

Also has a related link there to Peter Jackson's short film about World War I "Crossing the Line".
Both are pretty awesome to see.

Holy. Fucking. Shit.
If this movie could be out Now instead of more than a month from now, that would be great.

The last few trailers have gotten me really excited for this film. Its kind of nice to have a sci-fi film to look fwd. to thats not based on a book/cartoon/toy/comic.

That was my first thought as well - and setting it in South Africa was a nice touch.

hmm... the impression I got from the first short was that this was going to be some sort of allegory about how people turn into racist assholes whenever refugees show up. But now there's all this pewpew and shit blowing up, and I'm thinking that it was all just a setup to get you to sympathize with the (actually evil, because they're different) aliens. Surprise!
If that's how this firm turns out, I'm going to be really disappointed. I hate the Evil Other trope.
Can't we all just get along?
Aside from that, the film looks awesome.

This....doesn't look horrible. Everything I've seen of it up till now just screamed "heavy handed metaphor with tons of padding". This, actually looks like there might be an actual story, beyond the knowing wink to the audience.

Executor, I get the feeling it's more going to be along the lines of how oppression can change even kind-hearted, misunderstood aliens into Evil SpaceNazis.
Either way, I'm seeing it :P

This is the summer blockbuster I've been waiting for since seeing the original trailer some months back. It's always so good to see someone in the industry has a sense of creativity and talent to make something worth getting excited over.

@longbowhunter@: ...um the trailer just SAID it was based on a book. Not too often do you get movies that aren't based off books, even going back in the day (I swear, even now I find out more and more that older blockbusters were all... yes, based on books).
Anyhow, this looks good. Like a reverse Independence Day where the humans are basically the bad guys, and the aliens... don't want to invade and just go home? Do they need to phone home first or something? ._.

I liked TF2.
But anyways, this movie looks great but a few things bug me, first off couldn't we just slaughter the entire species with a can of raid?
Secondly I don't know about you, but usually putting a species that is that advanced tech wise to us is always a stupid idea. They have FTL ships to get around, we use fule make from decomposed bones. They probably can kill us with a childs toy

The websites are fun to pick though too... I gathered that this company has basically captured them, forced them to refuge and is using their DNA to enhance humans allowing them to percieve things on multiple planes or some shit.
The company seems to pump out the propaghanda on the aliens stirring up the hatred with a mob mentality.

They keep airing these PSA-style adverts on the Space channel here urging you to go to their website or call their hotline if you see any non-humans...I kind of love it.

Oh man, that looks amazing. If I was a guy, I'd definitely have a big nerd/film buff erection right now. Mmm.
Also, the music in this trailer kind of reminded me of the score for the new Terminator. Yes?

Dangit... why can't a movie like this get a good action figure line? Can they not spare the plastic from the indecipherable transformer toys that are now clogging shelves everywhere for a handful of decent figures of coherent-looking character designs?
Ok, rant over... this movie looks amazing. I can't wait to see it.
I mean... that thing grabbed the rocket right out of the air. I'm sorry, but I can't stop geeking out over that.

I could do without the reality tv show feel of the promos. The first trailer made me think, "Great, a reality tv show about aliens on earth." Now that there is some action involved, it might be better.

The teaser from a while ago had me excited for this movie, but now I'm not all that impressed nor excited. Hopefully the trailer is a misrepresentation... I don't really want an action movie.

Nice to see a recent sci-fi movie that's not trying to make a relevant political statement about immigration regulation practices or something.
That said, it does look like it will be good!
