I dunno... the shots of the accelerator suit on Duke still scream "not G.I. Joe!" to me, but if it was some other generic action flick rather than an attempt at a franchise starter it'd look to be alright.

But then, I tend to judge movies pretty harshly before seeing them since I've wasted cash on a number of crappy movies that had decent trailers. It's saved me some money on good movies, but leaves me a bit more cynical than I'd like.

I've said it before, but I suppose it warrants repeating: Michael Bay really, really should have directed G.I. Joe. That would have worked. If I had to put Stephen Somers on either Transformers or G.I. Joe, I'd put him on Transformers. But no, we have Bayformers, and speed suits. Ugh.

There are only two things that will waylay my low expectations for a movie: a) exceptional buzz, b) if it's from Pixar (only two of their movies have been misfires to me, "A Bug's Life" and "Cars" but they're not bad movies).

Televison is full of Lies lol. I really don't want to see it but I might just suffer through it...we'll see. I still haven't subjected myself to TF2 yet.

That's a good trailer. But as Vinnie Chase has shown us, Good Trailer =/= Good Movie.

There is something to be said for these trailers. Not having been a big fan of the original cartoon, I don't mind the changes with the suits. And frankly, if they tried to sell us near-superhuman soldiers without some sort of explanation of their abilities, I'd be WTF-ing the movie all the way through.

Also, from what I've read, Wayans is supposed to be playing this character completely straight. So maybe not annoying as fuck?

Also still haven't seen TF2 (...and it still made a bagillion dollars? =^\), and -unless a 'surprisingly positive review' is given to this movie, I won't see it either...

And yes, of Course that trailer looks pretty awesome- it's nothing but action-action-Action! Very little time for Marlon (sp?) Wayans, and ear-bleeding dialogue...

I don't see how this trailer makes the film look any better than the previous trailers...

They are going to turn Snake-Eyes into a robot in this movie. I am sure of it. Just wait and see.

Still Sucks

Now the speed suits aren’t murdering me…I do remember there were joes who wore special enhanced suits in some obscure episode IIRC...If they base the whole movie behind it then, yeah that would suck (But I doubt it would suck Devastator balls)…Marlon Wayans doesn’t really concern me…He plays to the context of the movie, since this isn’t slapstick comedy I don’t expect him to get his Wayans Bros., series finale on (He’ll probably still be comical though)….He’s played good to decent serious characters in Above the Rim and Requiem for a Dream (where he was brilliant—You won’t worry about $hit if you see this)…

Sienna Miller as Baroness is a bit of a concern as it would seem quite simple to find an actual Russian or Slavic or whatever chick to play her since Miller certainly isn’t much more than some babe Jude Law shagged, but hey they could have given Anna Kornikova the role (LOL, hell she’s a bit sexier)…Also Dennis Quaid (he’s not Duke right?)…Guys like him and Nicolas Cage almost make me wonder what life would have been like if I gave a $hit about becoming an actor…But I can deal with him I guess…

I mean the trailer doesn’t suck and Transformers 2 has crippled my faith in anything being adapted right ever again, so with those expectations maybe it will be good…It’s really the only way a nerd can rationalize being mildly excited for this…

Sienna Miller looks hot as The Baroness...her clevage alone is ALMOST enough to get me to go see this when it hits the drive-in. Besides,at the drive-in I can eat burgers and drink beer so....that helps.

Read the novel this past weekend and really enjoyed. HOWEVER, if there is one thing that will destroy this movie is Marlon Wayans. Everytime he entered a scene he was non stop with the lame jokes. And the Scarlet/ Ripcord relationship is awful.

The rest of the book was really good. Storm shadow kicks ass and the rest of the Joes were well done in the book.

That movie was a tragic masterpiece, and one of the most depressing movies I've seen. This is also depressing, but in a very different way. Note the preview where he and duke talk about jumping over/through a bus and where Marlon Wayans FALLS ON HIS FACE while getting out of a helicopter.

I almost would like to have seen a really cheesy 80's version of a GIJoe movie, just like the cartoon. goofy outfits, crazy voices and no badass Matrix action. Kinda like a mockumentory about how incredily gay the whole team is and how funny the afterschool special vibe of the show was. I think movies now are trying too hard to be like batman begins and Star Trek.

@ Rexsplode – I’m not looking for him to be absolutely brilliant, just for concerns that he’s only capable of being nutzoid-goofball to be curbed a bit…He’s honestly, by far, the best actor out of his fam (LOL, I can hear the snickers of “That ain’t saying much”, but) the dude CAN pull it back…I remember lots of jokey a$$holes on G.I.JOE….I don’t expect him to take it to a Scary Movie notch in this role since I’ve seen him pull it back before (even in comedy movies)…If they just make the whole movie about him like Richard Pryor in Superman 3 or something then yeah, but if he’s just another soldier with a funny attitude, I can hang with that…

Exactly, Debrevis. Editing the shit out of the existing trailer footage into headache-inducing flashes of crap instead of long, ponderous lustful panning shots of crap does not change the subject matter from steaming piles of shit to a mountains of awesome.

read the book, made me way more excited about the movie and the figures. me and my spouse have picked up like 10 of the figures already. all very cool.

I truly believe that as long as you can accept that you are about to see one of the crappiest blockbusters ever made before you put your money down for the ticket, then you will have a good chance of enjoying the movie.
GlavaTRION has a good point with his choice of directors. G.I. Joe is a comic/cartoon property that could really excel with a treatment of "realism" in the movie (think 'batman begins'). Whereas Transformers is a movie about alien robots that can turn into everyday vehicles, "realism" need not apply (and I actually like that TF2 was more cartoony than the first).

Robs being bought off by the G.I. Joe director! Dude, it still looks like shit!

Re: the accelerator suits, didn't they use something similar in the Sigma 6 series? I haven't seen anyone make the comparison, but I'm guessing that's part of why the suits were written into the film. (I'm not saying that makes it okay. I think they look goofy as hell.) How was that series received, anyway?

The fact that Larry Hama was apparently involved with the movie in some capacity gives me hope that the movie will at least be fun.

And has anyone read the "prequel" novel, Above & Beyond? I have to admit, I'm curious as to whether it's an enjoyable read.

This movie will be good, and I can not stress this enough, IF the accelerator suites are not brought in to play until near the end of the movie. If they are the focus, I'll be waiting till a decent download comes out.

First, this doesn't look like a good action movie. It looks trite and silly, with no Schwarzeneggeresque irony or hilarious disregard for the sanctity of human life.

Second, using GI Joe names doesn't make it like GI Joe. I can go downstairs right now and start calling my roommate flippin Snake Eyes. Doesn't make my life at all like GI Joe (tho honestly, it's more like Joe than this crapulent trailer).

If you go see it, I hope you enjoy it, but I don't see anything even remotely good in it.

Did anyone else notice the Eiffel Tower falls just like the opening of Team America World Police??
