Hmm. I don't know why they're using the Sin City filter on this movie poster, or why they've chosen the most modern font possible for the title, since the movie takes place in the Middle East about 1000 years ago. Nonetheless, here is Jake Gyllenhaal as The Prince of Persia. Who, if you recall, is not a prince in the movie. Still, I'll give them credit -- he looks just like he did in the game. The fact that Disney is producing even just a visually accurate videogame movie is absolutely blowing my mind. (Via Joystick Division)

You know what? I trust Disney more with a video game movie than any other studio for some reason.
Not that it'll be good or anything, but at least it'll look right.

I'm with you on this one.. I give them credit that he looks very good compared to the game... but I still don't see how they can hope to keep more than that level with the game if he isn't a prince. The story would have to be changed. Plot points between characters ect ect ect. I can't see how you can make a prince of persia movie off the sands of time without a prince. (I say that sense if I remember right the 'prince' in the new game.. isn't a prince.. I think.. never finished the game)

Well, not quite like he looks in the game. This is much more the Warrior Within (seething with generic rage) look than the sands of time, more storybook Arabian prince getup.
Pedant away!

I was unsure what to think about this movie earlier, but this new poster(s?) give me a big 'Pirates' vibe. Hopefully that's a good thing. I'm cautiously optimistic now. I look forward to a trailer.

Pirates Vibe? this poster is totally riped from the warrior within art...which is a good thing, cause that was the best one. All we need is a hot chick in a metal bikini and we're set :D

He doesn't look accurate to Sands of Time, which is what the movie is based on. He looks accurate to the sequel - Warrior Within

The game that costume is from, Warrior Within, was far and away the worst of the Sands of Time games. It seems like they're going with a sort of mash-up of the three titles with radical changes thrown in for who the hell knows why, and I'm not buying it just yet.
I want this movie to be god, really. I just don't THINK it will be.

Eh, I'm not going to complain; at least Jake Gylenhaal is a credible actor. Comic books had to endure decades of crap movies before their current renaissance began with Blade and X-Men (and seems to have culminated with the entirety of last summer). I'm just going to hope that this is the beginning of some respectable videogame films. It may not be great, but clearly there are some people on board who want this to look good, and hopefully are going to give some attention to the source material.

I would give my fucking leg for a great Prince of Persia movie, but I still have serious doubts about this one. I don't see why they have to concoct a completely new storyline and characters instead of using the one that already exists, adapting and tweaking it a bit, and just going with it. It would make a GREAT disney hollywood movie and would appeal to kids, adults, and gamers of all ages.
Gyllenhaal is a good actor and all, and he actually looks very much like The Prince, but I feel like this is going to end up more like a live action Aladdin knockoff than the Sands of Time character. And yes, I KNOW they share similar source material, but this is a movie made on material from a specific game - and it should stay faithful to it.

For the record I actually prefer the first and third game in the trilogy to Warrior Within. Yes, I know the third game was basically the first game all over again, set in Babylon, but dammit, I liked the plot of the first game and the fighting mechanics were amazing. The style of the second one, throwing out the Persian ambiance and giving it the heavy metal soundtrack, just annoyed me. I hope this movie is good, even with all my doubts.

varrior, sorry if I show up as a pathetic nerd who rages at the slightest critic, but Warrior Within was using Jordan Mechner'S ''Shadow of the Flames'' as concept.Which was also a PoP-game.
So seriously, why is it that everyone cries around that WW wasn't Persian enough?
If you want ''1001 nights'' go watch Aladin again. Prince of Persia is settled in the Orient, but it can also have it's own theme on each game. That's why I prefer WW over T2T because the guy who was in charge tried atleast something new and brought a good game out.Not as strong as SoT,but still good.
Also, why we're at it, why is it that nobody of the oh so intelectual consumers brag about ''300'' showing such demonized and historical inaccurate version of the Persians and King Xerxes? Prince of Persia showed atleast the other side of the coin. True the dialogues could've been better and Farah should've been back, but still, it actually throw me off in the story than T2T.
And the heavy metal wasn't that aweful I heard much worse.

I heard a lot of crap for 300 regarding its depiction of Persians, the canned response was that this was the Persian forces as the Greek defenders saw them. Of course the film also runs roughshod over African animals.

LMAO this guy looks like Kevin Sorbo's illegitimate kid. He could so be doing "Son of Hercules" if he was a c-list actor primed for a syndicated show from hell. Some movies need an action star (or a seasoned action guy), and I'd say this is one of them. Brokeback just looks too frail and timid (Which I guess is fine if you're talking Toby McGuire in Spidey, but for some guy who doesn't have a mask and body suit it's gonna take some skill for me to believe Jake can pull this off). Hey I was wrong before, I thought I'd rather get waterboarded with septic-water than watch Matt Damon become an action star and he surprised the unliving shit outta me in the Bourne Trilogy, so maybe brokeback can do it too. However like someone said this poster just looks like a white dude with a tan posing. Doesn't scream awesome just yet.

Because all video game stories are shitty. Listen, I love the medium, but outside of MAYBE the occasional RPG (and even those are generally cliche-ridden and convoluted as all hell and would be unfilmable... and that's before FFVII dropped a metric ton of horrid anime tropes into the genre) there hasn't been a video game storyline that would work as a movie without substantial tweaking (seriously, does anyone actually want to sit through a Metal Gear or Metroid movie?). It's not a slight on video games; it's just that their stories only work in an interactive context.

Hey Mortal Combat Pt. 1 worked, but yeah that's about it. Everybody thought Resident Evil would make a good movie with it's game plot, jesus were we wrong on that one. Disney TENDS to have their shit together so I only think accepting Gyllenhal as "The Prince" will be what wins or loses the movie.

@Arcane and Tantrix:
Yeah, I agree about 300, their depiction was pretty bad there, but you can chalk a lot of that up to Frank Miller's overactive imagination and moderate racism. Plus yeah, the Greeks tended to overdo their accomplishments and undercut the accomplishments of anybody else. As for WW, let's just agree to disagree, the game really just didn't do it for me, and while some people liked the music, it just irritated me.
@Geoff:
Yes, there is nothing new under the sun, but there are many, many videogames which take recycled plots and do something creative with them. Sands of Time had a very simple plot (find the Vizier, use the dagger to turn back time) but was interactive, fun, and I loved the characterization of the Prince and Farah.
And I don't see what would be wrong with either a Metalgear or Metroid movie using their existing universes and plotlines. Nobody's asking for a bloody play-by-play of the game turned film, I'm talking about using existing concepts and characters within existing frameworks.

Ok.. I have to say, this looks way cool, even though the font was sort of jarring.
But preferring Warrior Within to any of the other parts of the series? Come on! That was just emo-PoP. It was such a blatant attempt to cash in on the, at the time, popular subculture of Emo-kids and way, way, late to the party wannabe-goths.
