Also, the bucket of water is the absolute best accessory I've ever seen.

Gleek is in the Comic-Con version only. Then they are going to release it online to the collectors who support this line and LEAVE OUT the Alex Ross inspired design on Gleek. So if you put money in to this line, you get nothing.

Which is why many people who buy this line are pissed.

SDCC comic exclusives are nice when they're something extra or odd that collectors will make the extra effort for and enjoy. But when it's something essential like the Gleep that should come with any Wonder Twins figures, it gets pretty annoying.

And honestly, SDCC exclusives are becoming too awesome for their own good. It's a pain to have such great toys be so rare and expensive.

There are reasons I'm not a toy collector. The biggest is that this is ultimately a waste of money, and not the "investment" most collectors will say it is.

The second is that, while I am a geek, I'm not such a man-child that I still collect action figures. The whole point of action figures was to play with them. Collecting them and leaving them in a box, on a shelf in your home, is the sort of thing that makes people refer to you as "socially awkward" (and that's being nice).

It's in the same category as cosplay, in my book. There's geeky, and then there's "too far", and being in your 30s or older and collecting every new action figure on the market is "too far" for me.

If you want to collect statues, then collect real statues; Not mass-produced plastic figures. Yes, some of them are well-sculpted. Yes, some of them are very cool. But they're not classy. They're childish, and you can't display them in your home without looking like a social reject.

I try to straddle the line between "geek" and "capable of being somewhat respected by non-geeks", and while I am, indeed, very geeky... Well, I'll never be geeky enough to have this toy sitting on a shelf in my home.

Besides, I'd almost say that toy collecting goes past "geek" into "spaz" territory.

It's a cool toy... But it's still a toy and I wouldn't buy it unless it was to tear open the box and let my nephew play with it. Anyone who gets toys and doesn't play with them is going against the very CONCEPT of what toys are made for!

I realized it would open up (and have them fist bump) once you removed the sleeve pretty quickly, and thought that yeah, that's pretty nifty. Then the sounds and lights... yeah, that's some damn awesome packaging right there.

the package makes the evil that is the twins almost makes me want to break down and buy them. even with out gleek though surprised they did not show the excluive with gleek also. and the twins prove that no matter how evil or stupid that matel is willing to mine the dc universe no character is off limits love the light up effect

I made the decision the moment Gleek was announced as being only available at SDCC that I would not be buying the Wonder Twins set from matty. I'll try to pick up a set with Gleek on ebay right after the con, when it'll be flooded with them, but I have no interest in owning the set without Gleek, as he is the main point of interest to me.

That said, Mattel did a fantastic job with the packaging for this set. It looks to be completely collector-friendly, too, like Lobo was last year. It looks as if you can remove the figures completely from the trays once the slipcover is removed, and then replace them if you wish, with no problem. I don't think the elaborate packaging is worth paying an extra $15(if the rumored $40 price tag is true), but it is very cool.

I was sitting here before she pivoted the box thinking "Watch, they'll transform into an eagle and a bucket of water or something" and not only was that exactly what they came packed with, but it's also the first thing they said. That was friggin' hilarious.

It's definitely cool packaging but how bullshit are the majority of DC's characters? They do a fist bump and turn into water and an eagle? Fuck. Beyond Batman I have no clue how they sell comics.

It's hard to explain why an adult collects toys. You either understand it or you don't, and I don't think I could change your mind. It's a compulsion that people have for different reasons. I personally don't see it as any crazier than collecting anything else. It's the same drive. But toy collecting comes with an added social stigma. Your really passionate disdain of it is common, and it's frustrating.

I'm not too worried about what others will think about my hobby, although I don't go out of my way to advertise it outside of places like here. Hell, my girlfriend accepts it, and that's the most important thing. What concerns me more is not that I collect toys, but understanding why I have such a strong materialistic urge and making sure I don't spend too much money on it. It really is an addiction. But I have no problem with the fact that I honestly like toys. I like having small representations of characters I like that I can fiddle with. I feel it ties into my creative side as a writer. I want to convince myself to buy fewer toys, but I'd be unhappy if I sold off everything I have, so why bother? Who cares about pleasing the average close-minded, over-reactive person who can't just leave well enough be?

Funny how sports card collectors don't receive this kind of hate.

I won't be getting one, as I have no attachment to the Wonder Twins, but that is some truly awesome packaging.
