Of course, there's always the possibility that I'm just a horrible dick, and because of Paramount's cherry-picking of the planet's least demanding reviewers prior to the film's release, I just hate the G.I. Joe movie more in consequence and revel in any of its failures, of which the movie game is clearly one. And watching the review and seeing the game fail on every conceivable level is delicious to me, and warms my bitter black heart.
One of the two.

You KNOW this game is gonna be a bag of wank right off the bat. Normally Gametrailers keeps things ambiguous in the intro, setting up the game to be judge on the various criteria. Here, they start right off with "This Game Sucks", pretty much making the rest moot.

Nothing to do with the game. I just thought I'd further infuriate you and point out that G.I. Joe has screened for British critics. Overall pretty positive except of course for Empire who by default two star anything American and commercial.

Then again, when has a movie tie-in game been good? Not much of a "victory" when you already know it's been an uphill battle since...forever. (E.T. anyone?)
I thought Revenge of the Fallen was fun, but it was basically Gears of War with Transformers. Nothing innovative or mold-breaking, but it was fun to wail on Decepticlones with 'Bee and Breakaway.

Games usually based around movies are usually crap anyway, so this was hardly unexpected.
The "COOOBRRAAAAAA" was awful, but then again no one will beat Chris Latta when it comes to Cobra Commanders voice.

Sounds like a shite game, but not as bad as the old 2600 game.

Saw the movie tonight. First thought, they should line up everyone in their marketing department and shoot them. Now. They took what was a pretty cool action sequence and made it look awful. Not to say this was genre defining but in it's long form it comes together fairly well. Speaking of Paris, I know a lot of people have made cracks about Team America: World Police. Their justified. There is a montage for Duke and Ripcord joining the team, the blow up most of Paris to stop WMDs, the comparison is there. To be fair however, it's GI Joe, what the fuck you expect? And to be fair, even Batman Begins had a montage. Marlon Waynes was not good but not nearly as bad as predicted. Sienna Miller did a great job as the Baroness though her Duke subplot really annoyed me towards the end. Her fight with Scarlett was choice. She did a fair job of carrying a lot of the movie in my opinion. I liked the set up for Cobra Commander but you are right, he looks stupid at the end of the film. It's pretty inexcusable really but they whole is greater than its parts. Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow's subplot was good, involving the most brutal 12 year old on 12 year old fighting I have ever seen. Molded lips looked dumb, the fights didn't.
There is a large attack submarine on submarine fight towards the end of the movie that was awkward but was better as a dog fight scene than anything in the new Star Wars movies (they seemed to steal a lot of the best parts from those movies) Anyways, it's not perfect, but I liked it more than any of the other big summer offerings (Wolverine, Terminator, 10x the movie Transformers 2 was) I'd give it a 7.5-8 out of 10. I've read all the comics, seen all the shows, played with all the toys and can honestly say I liked it a lot. It's far from perfect but has more than enough moments of greatness that it kept me happy. Just fix Cobra Commander in 2. Seriously.

Just "fix" Ripcord. And set Scarlett up with Snake eyes.

Played this with my 10-year-old daughter. She'd never played Contra before, but loved this.

The game isn't that awful.
I rented it, and it's kind of fun, not worth $60 bucks or whatever though.
It's kind of like Contra when you've got the cheat code, mindlessly blowing shit up without the suicide inducing pattern recognition skills that series demands.
I've graphics are nearly PS2 level, but the characters are tiny so you only notice in cut scenes. Once my AI teammate was paralyzed in one spot for like 5 minutes. Bad vehicle controls. And it's pretty simplistic.
But, I think that's the way to go with these tie-in games. The ones that try to be more ambitious and dimensional than this are the ones that once deadline time comes, get shipped out even more incomplete, and the resulting games are just broken.
This one isn't broken, it's just average. There are a lot of nifty little homages and references to the 80s stuff, Ripcord's special weapon is one of those old PackRat robotic drones! So, I'm really glad I rented it, but also glad so didn't buy it. In 3 months this game will be $20.

Well all the positive things one can say with a straight face about a game or film adaptation of a beloved franchise amount to "it's really not that bad", you know they're really screwed things up.

Templar: Well, when you got a site that has been crushing everything about the movie for 6 months you have to temper what you say otherwise be drowned in the sea of internet whining. It's a movie based on GI Joe, remember the cartoon about war where no one ever got shot? The things that are silly about it are what made the cartoon fun. Giant under water fortresses, futuristic vehicles and the like. The internet has very selective memory when it comes to their cartoons

No, I'm talking about the "positive" feedback the film's gotten in general, not just here.
