Wow. That's just sad. But not unexpected.

Smallville actually has superhero battles. Not just implied battles behind closed doors.

I just can't bring myself to watch Heroes this season, even if I am a Ray Park fan. I will however, be watching Smallville Season 9. It's not a great show, but it's become infinitely better than Heroes.

I'm not sure. Was that Superman or The Flash I was just watching darting all over the place on Smallville?

I'm very glad I never jumped on the Heroes bandwagon. It just didn't work for me. That clip won't help me try either, it's direction, editing and shitty acting smacks of a Sci-Fi Channel...ah..excuse me SYFY channel Original Movie.

Speaking of Smallville, Is it weird that I'll actually want to start watching it again because of the return of the Wonder Twins?

I'm going to chose to ignore that and instead remember that my ever-adored Robert Knepper will be a regular.

Heroes has failed harder than any show I can remember.

Seriously, it looks fine, hell looks better then smallville did and does and ever will.

Seriously the nitpicking at heroes is getting sad, didn't you want to drop all the hate a while ago? Or was that just a joke? And people hop off the Rob bandwagon. The superspeed looks fine in heroes and at this point you are just complaning to complain. That 19 year old clip of the Flash TV series looks way better than the Heroes or Smallville clips posted in the main topic.

I repeat again - a TV show that is 19 YEARS OLD has less dated and more competent FX work than your beloved Heroes. It shouldn't have, but it does. Go figure!

about 3:10 or so. From the show not the intro, that looks worse. And I really don't see the hate for how heroes is using super speed, if it is how it looks disjointed well they are fighting, I mean True Blood does the same thing when the vamps super speed. hate to say it but that is probably how SS will look if there ever is a movie.

If you want to rag on heroes at least pick something worth ragging on, like everything claire related expecially her in college getting it on with girls and pledging. I just don't see the greek system being somthing that most nerds are going to realate with, unless they go mean girls style then you all will agree about how evil and mean the greek system is

The nitpicking is just general criticism. The effects in that scene from Heroes is crap. Plain and simple. All they did was film the fight, composite it on to the background, speed it up and occasionally reduce the opacity. A six year old with iMovie could do the same thing.

The effects from both Smallville and The Flash are far better and more convincing.

How would I make it better? Add color. Give Ray Park's speed some sort of identifiable power that is associated with it, not just "fast and blurry". Make it a green-blur which is red or purple when Peter mimics it. Or add some little lightning bits coming off him. Put some distortion around him, so we see an effect of his speed. Hell I'll even take glittery sparkles. It doesn't have to be overwhelmingly blatant. Just something that says "super power", and not just "ripping off the Matrix and conserving our budget".

So allow me to turn the table back on you, Troll. What about that Heroes scene is good? What makes the power effects in Heroes better than The Flash and Smallville?

I think the problem Heroes faces right now, is that a huge chunk of the "audience" consists of people who only watch to either make fun of it for sucking, or to bitch about how good it used to be. If only people who LIKED the show tuned in, it would be cancelled before October due to low ratings.

I am curretly re-watching Heroes series 1 and i forgot how good it was, gonna give s4 a go but if its not grabed me after 8 episodes i will drop it from Series Link on sky

Man, I loved Heroes S1, but it just got so bad after the Fuller left. I stopped watching it last year and I am so glad I did so. I just wish Chuck was given a full 16 or 22 episode season instead of a shortened season and letting the dead horse know as heroes keep going.

That looks like the incomplete special effects from the Sylar deleted scenes on the first two seasons. So my guess is that they ARE incomplete special effects... only they feature Rocky.

Did they hire the people that did the special effects for Twilight?

At this point I have to assume they are trying to get canceled on purpose because they are out of ideas, or else they are trying to pull a huge Rick-roll on the remaining fans...

Watching the Heroes clip, I half expected to see the mouths move off the voice track in keeping with the shitty kung crap that was filmed.

I hear you. I usually watch Heroes just to make fun of it, but I always hope that it will surprise me and start being good again. Some scenes from last season were good, but every episode in full was petty terrible. If things don't improve this season, NBC has to cancel this thing and try something else. Or maybe they can fire the writing/producing staff again and start over. I don't know.

I am looking forward to Smallville. It's ot a great show, but at least its a lo of fun and even offers some great surprises.

Personally, I like 0:39 - 0:41 of the clip. the crappy blur combined with the expression on Noel's face (almost as if he’s wondering "what the fuck is this?" really works as an apt metaphor for present day Heroes.

Heroes S1 was all about characterization. Sure, he main storyline was so simple it could be summed up in a catchphrase (Save the cheerleader, avoid comic book cliches). But each character had a complex backstory, a cast of characters unique to them, and were interesting enough beyond the fact that they could fly, or time travel, or be as hot as Ali Larter.

The second season tossed all of the ground work aside in favor of crazy plots, each stolen from a recognizable comic book story.

Now, I don't claim to know what is best for this series. But when material gets stale, you can either quit or reboot.

Smallville's contempt towards physics pisses me off. If you catch someone who's falling at the end of the fall with your arms that have the consistency of steel, it's no better than hitting the ground. If you run faster than a bullet to push someone out of the way of a bullet, your hand is still travelling faster than a bullet and you just stuck your entire arm through their chest. Congratulations.

Heroes and Smallville are not even on the same level. Even without all the money and backing of NBC, Smallville still prevails as a great superhero story with special effects. DH Writer, you are totally right about actually seeing superhero fights in Smallville. Rob, I'm surprised you didn't go for the easy Matrix reference today as well. It was more deserving for this Heroes clip than "Oh Clark is wearing a black trenchcoat, they are trying to rip off the Matrix!" And Dangeraardvark, Superman has been doing that shit since 1938. Way to call him out on it 71 years later. You sure schooled him. :)

Smallville isn't a fucking superhero story. It's about some emo kid with five hot girls surrounding him and he whines and bitches about not being able to have sex with them and then spends time complaining about how normal a life he wants to lead. Oh, wait, you're a fucking alien, live with it.

And then of course, as it inevitably turns out, the lead on the show has absolute contempt for the material and doesn't read any of the comic books to get into character.
