And while we're speaking of horror flicks, here's an actual real trailer for the new Nightmare on Elm Street, starring Watchmen's Jackie Earle Haley as Freddy Krueger. I'm not much of an Elm Street fan, but it seems all right, if only because of Haley as the supernatural killer of idiotic and/or nubile teens. Still, the scariest part to me will always be when the words "FROM PRODUCER MICHAEL BAY" appear on screen. Hell, I get a chill just typing them! Brr! (Via /Film)

anonymous [ 10-5-09] yeah , i think its kina obvious that they have no creativity left . well except for Cloverfeild which was another american based monster [ i hope that all fans of Kurt Russel's Snake will connect the INTENTIONAL tribute to Liberty's head in cloverfeild , C creator wanted to explain how the skull of Liberty ended up on the poster to ESCAPE FROM NY] :) jag

I don't understand why they can't make their own characters and movies.... Have they just run out of GOOD original stories?? Just leave the classics alone, especially if you are replacing the actor who plays the bad guy....
-
I actually liked H2 up to the point where the plot went to hell. this is almost as bad as SCOOBYDOO : the origin movie *dont care about the actual titles because my childhood is being raped by crappy writers who dont appreciate our <3 for our childhood* or TINKERBELL : origin 1. you have him still wearing the gloves , and sweater 2. you have a sympathetic vote for the blond who is about to cry for him. 3. you all better start praying because since our beloved puzzlebox (HELLRAISER) is on the list of greenlighted films this means that even THUNDARR or HERCULOIDS are going to be shitty . dont believe me ? ill prove it ==> HOW THE HELL does BARONESS and Cobra Comander BE BROTHER AND SISTER ? and baroness be engaged to channing tatum answer : GI JOE : SMELL OF GARBAGE (2009) now when herculoids comes out , i goddamn guarantee that the studio will remove all the hotness from the show , dumb it down to a crappy poor-mans version of LOST BOYS (twilight) origin story , all under the name of *FROM THE DIRECTOR OF ....* ( which would be what ever BOXoffice flop is out there the year before) SPOILER FOR HALLOWEEN 2 ok one , i payed my hard earned cash to see Halloween 2, and all thru the film ( i was liking, then the plot hole came about near the end where Mike and lil sis were in the shack and NO OTHER POINT IN THE FILM did lil sis see the white horse or mom UGH,wtf)

As much as I like the casting, do we need yet another remake of an 80's movie? Geez, enough already! How long will it be until we get a remake of "2001", "Star Wars", and "Saturday Night Fever"? Or did I just give some producer an idea? Do we really need yet another "origin" story? Do we really need to know how Kirk met Spock or how Anakin met Obi-Wan? Why can't these things be left to our imagination? I'm sure most people came up with a better "meeting scene" than what actually happened in "Star Wars: Episode I". Are Jason or Freddy made any scarier by knowing they were abused as kids, or picked on, or whatever? I think it actually makes them *less* scary. Personally, I think Heath Ledger's Joker was a LOT scarier simply because we didn't know his backstory, his origin, nor any other motivation for why he did what he did.
-
Looks like crap. The original was lame too though, so no shocker.
-
Robert England is the only Freddy. This movie looks like 10 pounds of crap shoved in a 5 pound bag. I can only hope for a monumental failure like Rob Zombie's Halloween. Then they can bring Robert back to try and save the franchise.
-
So it turns out The Kurgan made Kruger into a dream haunting monster. Interesting.
-
From what I can tell from the trailer it seems that this remake is going down the same route as Friday the 13th. I saw elements from ANOS, part 2 and possibly part 3 in that trailer. The voice and make up of Freddy seems to be one of those love it or hate it things.
-
Lolz at all who are bitching about Bay being attached to this. It's his production company, that's it. The same deal with the Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Friday the 13th remakes, just his company. And those remakes turned out amazingly well, very true to the original films spirit and source material(with Friday the 13th, take into account it' setting is before Jason became a walking demon-corpse). I'm glad these are being done the way they are and not like Rob Zombie's shit bombs Halloween and H2, they were god awful. Zombie shoulda been hit by a bus after his only decent movie, House of 1000 Corpses, to spare us from the shlock he crapped out and called films afterward. I for one, am looking very forward to this.
-
Strangely, I like this. I feel genuinely interested in seeing a remake try to pull all the good elements of the franchise together to make a coherent continuity for Freddy. The Friday the 13th remake didn't really do it for me, but this looks promising. Some of the kills look shot for shot, but there is some originality here. The idea that Freddy might actually be innocent and only become a killer out of revenge for being unjustly murdered is a neat angle. It reminds me a little of Night of the Scarecrow. It'd be nice if they'd wrap it up by letting Nancy truly win in the end, with no sequel potential.
-
the NOES series of movies were more a part of my childhood than transformers, yet still I cringed @ TF1&2. I swear to baby raptor jesus, if Bay fucks this up I will don the striped shirt and glove and start working on those dream powers in order to kill him in his sleep
-
people Bay is just producing quite bitching
-
It's not that he IS innocent, but this time his guilt is a bit more in doubt. Perhaps he feels that he's not guilty, that maybe he was 'taken over' by some other creature when killing the kids and that he shouldn't BE held responsible. And maybe it's all an act? It's that debate about it that actually draws me into this remake more than any of the other recent ones. And as always, you don't have to see this one to enjoy the past ones.

Directing a movie is holding a camera, PRODUCING a movie is holding the guy who's holding the camera...If Micheal Bay the director is 1% of what he is as a producer what would be the point in even considering watching this if you already hate Bay? (Which I do, with an unbridled passion) I'll give him one green sticker, his cast is pretty tight, and it seems he likes alot of actors from one of my absolute favorite show Supernatural (original Ruby appears to be playing the main female character as Sam Winchester is the main character in 13th remake)..If you're a CW-clone I saw about 4 of those kids in the preview including Flash from Smallville who's in damn near ever scary movie right now...Long story short though, I'll wait for it on STARZ network because giving Bay more money is something my soul and pride just won't allow...
-
I'd be more frightened if it had said DIRECTED by Micheal Bay, now that would have scared the shit out of me. And by the way, LMAO at "just in time for Roman Polanski's arrest"
-
"Unnecessary Remakes" is the perfect tag for this. If Freddy was alive, he'd be rolling in his unconsecrated grave. Wait . . .
-
Not sure I like the unjustly persecuted bit. Why can't anyone just be a bad guy in movies anymore. It seems like it always has to be about how society "makes" people do bad things and how it's not really their fault. Hey, just in time for Roman Polanski's arrest.
-
as much as i do like remakes. hearing Jackie sound like freddy and seeing that Freddy whacks the guy who plays impulse on small ville makes it worth checking out and at least michel bay is finaly in the genre he should be in for any film he does is a nightmare and horror
-
At this point, it may be worth clarifying that Michael Bay isn't directing this. The director is Samuel Bayer, who has mainly worked on music videos. Bay is producing (ie. throwing money at) it, the same as he did the "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" remake, and that didn't turn out too badly.
-
What on earth kind of spastic voice is that of Freddy. And with Michael I-did-my-best-to-screw-up-the-Transformers-franchise Bay as Director, this movie seems to be gearing up to be a major cock up in all departments. If you know that no one will ever topple Englund's performance, why bother unless you're going for a completely different take on the whole genre. In which case, like someone's already pointed out, don't do what seems to be a rehash of the first two Freddy movies. SUCKS BIG TIME!
-
That's... Actually much better than I expected, honestly. I was a little worried when I first heard about this, but I'm pleasantly surprised. Seems like it might be more serious than the originals. I did like funny Freddy, but I've always been curious about what the movies would be like with a more serious vibe.
-
And Micheal Bay ruins yet another part of my childhood...I can only imagine what a mirror with his image in it reflects back...Bay's dreams would prolly explode the fuck outta Freddie anyways T_T...
-
I was a huge horror movie fan during my adolescence, and I still have a soft spot for the icons. I'll certainly be seeing this. While I'm disappointed that it's going the "Friday the 13th" route (remaking select scenes from the original series instead of going in a new direction like Rob Zombie's "Halloween"), it may well capture the visuals and atmosphere of Craven's original, even if only through outright mimicry. Healey makes for a promising Krueger, too. I like the more realistic make-up, and the dirty old man voice. I wonder if this version of him really was wrongly accused? I hope not. Krueger should be an evil, child-murdering bastard long before gaining his dream powers. Anything else makes him a tragic character, and that can only serve to undermine the audience's fear of him.
-
@lou-bert vs. q-bert LOOKS like shit? No, I don't think so. Honestly, it LOOKS quite good. You want something that truly LOOKS like shit, pull up some of the detritus featured on MST3K. Watch Manos: The Hands of Fate without Joel and the Bots. THAT not only LOOKS like shit, but truly IS shit. Love him or hate him, Bay is a visual director and his shit almost always LOOKS good. And since he's not directing this, that gives this film a bit of a leeway. He's pumping money and resources into it, not dictating the look or actors (at least no more than a producer can). WILL the movie be shit? Can't tell until April 30, 2010. True, remakes without input or involvement of still-living directors are more than likely to fail...but then, many classic and highly regarded films are, in fact, remakes. The Thing, An Affair to Remember, The Maltese Falcon, just to name a few. Hell, TMF took LESS time to remake than ANOES. Will THIS be better than the original? Most definitely not...but I think I'll enjoy it. But I'll let you know May 1st if it is shit.
-
This movie looks like shit.
-
2 to 1 odds that the climax will involve explosions. Lots of explosions. Because clearly the only way to stop Freddie Krueger is with lots and lots of explosions. Goddamn you Michael Bay.
-
ha! i thought the exact same thing when i saw the words "from producer Michael Bay" i literally shuddered. no, but seriously... he's ruining the movie industry.
-
I was hoping beforehand, and the trailer hints at it in the beginning - that Krueger was innocent to begin with. Perhaps more interesting then, that he would seek revenge on the people, and their families, that pegged him for a murderer and unjustly killed him. You can't let shit like that just roll off. Heh.
-
If you see this, movies will only get worse.
-
I'd seen the trailer last night and I think it looks great. But, I agree with you guys. I'm sick of these damn remakes! Ugh! And yeah, I was freaked out when I saw Michael Bay as producer of this movie. YIKES! But, hopefully, this movie will show something new and fresh as well as the homages to the original, classic NOES films. I think Jackie Earl Haley will do a good job as Freddy. But, Robert Englund is THE MAN when it comes to Mr. Big Badass Krueger!
-
Michael Bay is a modern version of King Midas: Everything he touches gets turned in to SHIT. Case closed.
-
...is it just me or does his face look too CG? 0_o I had to go back and look again cause I was thinking "WTF did they NOT use makeup or a mask this time?!" Just makes it look more fake if so...
-
Looking forward to it, and believe it or not, Bays done a great job producing horror remakes thus far (Texas Chainsaw Massacre and especially Friday the 13th). The first NOES is one of my favorite horror films, so heres hoping it turns out well. (not quite sure of Freddys new look or voice though, I guess I'll have to wait and see)
-
I'm in the (probably small) camp that likes Freddy played straight, as funny as some of his one-liners were. I've always thought it would be cool to actually see more of the events leading to his death, and I REALLY like the idea of leaving his guilt a mystery for some reason. As much as I bitch about remakes, I may give this one a chance.
-
I've enjoyed the Halloween remake, the Friday 13th remake, and the My Bloody Valentine remake. Not so much the When A Stranger Calls remake, though. I'm really looking forward to this Nightmare on Elm Street. Like Mike said, I hope that this is played straight up and menacing. And it better be rated R. Heads will roll if this ends up being some PG-13 vehicle.
-
Yeah, the shot for shot stuff is grating at this point. It's like "Look how true to the original we are staying!" But a remake is the height of no creativity! Reimagining my left foot! When are we going to learn as a horror movie watching audience? The Child's Play remake right around the corner? Also, that scene of Haley ripping off his jacket in slo-mo for the sweater reveal is cornball.
-
@Lithroe Right now, I'd say it's more of a 'Rob Zombie's Halloween' remake where they flesh out the killer's origin MUCH more than the original and its sequels combined did, putting a new twist on it (here, they're leaving Freddy's original guilt a mystery), changing the look JUST ENOUGH but not be a complete departure, and then continuing the original story, making sure to replay the key points that gave the original such power because they think fans want to see it, but probably not giving enough new stuff to truly warrant a remake other than just to update the material (original was SOOOO 1984, after all). Still, getting Kelly Leak as Krueger has been the best move they've made so far, so it earns my ticket on that alone.
-
I'm confused. Is this going to be a remake along the lines of Psycho? You know, shot for shot, with a few added changes to make it modern. That looks like a shot for shot of the first two Nightmare on Elm Street movies.
-
I hate "humerous" Freddy and all horror movies in general that seem to think serial killers need to be quipsters. I hope they play this straight. No offense to the above poster I hope.
-
i remember reading a while back that Jackie auditioned for the original nightmare on elm street only to have johnny depp who was accompanying him get a part. Seems odd to have it full circle if the story was true.
-
ANOES was always my favorite movie, so obviously a Bay remake give me suicidal thoughts. Of Course, Transformers were my favorate toys too so this feeling is nothing new. The issue I have with these remakes is I don't see why they just can't be sequels to the previous movies. Don't attach a number to the title The dumbasses that the whole remake angle is aimed at won't know the difference, and maybe the writers will be forced to add a new wrikle to the movie as opposed to just rehashing a classic with pretty new faces. By the way, I met most of the cast of the original at a convention a while back. They were all a cool bunch. Robert Englund is clearly a guy who enjoys his work.
-
"Still, the scariest part to me will always be when the words "FROM PRODUCER MICHAEL BAY" appear on screen." LOL, too true.
-
Agreed, this seems like too much of a direct remake with the attack scenes in some ways. My question is: Is the humor there? The ironic kills?
-
Hmmm...this trailer itself divides me. On the one hand, JEH as Freddy has been perhaps the best move this remake has taken. Glad that Englund approves as well, for all that matters, but seeing an unburned Haley running from the parents out of straight fear is definitely a fresh take on the character, since old Freddy always seemed to WANT to be killed (I remember Freddy's Nightmares TV Series that gave an origin episode and showed him almost ASKING to be burned alive). And yeah, the make-up and voice are a huge departure and will have to be seen in context to be properly evaluated, but I like the idea of Freddy looking and sounding like an actual burn victim (though the first pic of his face looked more like Lord Voldemort's face on the back of Professor Quirrel's head). And if the trailer is any indication, they'll go a bit more of a 'less is more' with full on reveals. But on the other hand...they seem to be pasting on the new actor's faces in the old scenes. The bathtub scene is practically identical, and New Tina (which may not be her real name) being killed like Old Tina leaves NOTHING new. Hopefully, the unseen nightmares will bring out some seriously surreal and never-before-seen shit. Ah hell, it ain't Michael Bay's 'Ka-Boom!' so I'll give it a shot.

Not sure if I'm liking the voice...
