Hey, remember how Microsoft got everyone's hopes up by saying there was going to be a super-cool Halo movie directed by Peter Jackson, then it was just going to be produced by Peter Jackson, and then no one talked about it for like a year, and then everyone kind of fessed up it wasn't going to happen? Well, if you were genuinely looking forward it, maybe you'll be able to content yourself with this incredibly awesome live-action trailer for the Halo 3: ODST game, which comes out next week. More likely, it'll crush your soul at what might have been and you'll break down crying and cursing the heavens. But it's all you're getting, so... sorry about your luck. (Via Nerd Bastards)

...How is this the consolation prize?... you obviously haven't seen the Halo Landing videos. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mppqe1FCpbg ... It's about 1000 times better than the ODST trailer...
-
Nah, I'm glad we got District 9 instead thanks...

legios, "The movie is good because it is a parody of the proproganda films of the WWII era. I think tha Verhoeven was making fun of the jingoist mood of the U.S. during the Desert Storm / Desert Shield era." As political satire goes the Verhoeven movie is about as deep as a puddle and has more than a few broken aesops. Worse, the guy admits to not reading the book but still claims his movie accurately depicts Heinlein's "fascist" (his words) society. It was a pretty decent action movie but Verhoeven is a complete tool. Starship Troopers deserves better.

They won't make a Halo movie because everyone involved realized that the first and second Halo shamelessly ripped off both ideas and exact dialogue from ALIENS, and several other movies. And I'm not talking about "inspired by" dialogue. I mean there are whole sections of the games that are word-for-word duplicates of the dialogue in ALIENS. And it's not just a line here or there for the sake of homage, either. Considering that, I'm sure they realized that if they made a movie that was loyal to the content of the first Halo, they'd essentially be making a remix of ALIENS.

Oh. Your. God!

It's a version of Cafe del Mar's "Light of Aidan - Lament" Translated lyrics: "And my army of brothers went over the hilltops, drenched in blood we may be... but fighting is all left to me... Together with my army of brothers... down we fall... darkness in all... through hell!"

Hey can anyone tell me what type of music is playing? Or who the musician is?
-
I was thinkin after watching that trailer on xbox live, that theres no way they couldnt do a movie. Had pretty good music, and the action was perfect for a commercial.

The Starship Troopers book was noteworthy for its exploration a society where citizenship had to be earned. And the cultural differences that result from to two classes of people. Also it explores the development a professional military class and its influence on (and responsibilities to) society. (by the way, this is happening in the U.S. right now). The movie is good because it is a parody of the proproganda films of the WWII era. I think tha Verhoeven was making fun of the jingoist mood of the U.S. during the Desert Storm / Desert Shield era. The book is a classic though. It's deeper than just a "bunch of battles". And I agree with whoever mentioned "Forever War"...that book is fantastic. *and to be topical...I've had the ODST clip on my Facebook page for a week. I love that clip...where is my HALO Movie!
-
I think my friend said it best after viewing the extended trailer. "Man, I'd definitely watch that TV SHOW/MOVIE, too bad it's just going to be another generic FPS." Glad, though, to see someone has learned from the BSG formula: Gritty, Dark Sci-Fi + Ethnic Sounding Music = WIN And look, I know we breed a culture of ADD addled stimulation junkies who cringe at the thought of having to drag their eyes across a page and interpret the symbols there and use their atrophied imagination to form an image of the text's subject in their mind, but damn, I didnt expect to see that much of it here. Yeah, Heinlen is overrated and that book wasnt the most brilliant piece of military sci-fi ever written(It's no Forever War) but to actually read someone saying they preferred the movie is frankly terrifying.
-
Great clip. Starship Troopers was an excellent book. Excellent concept and brilliant look at the making of men. Also that a warrior is not just a meat head but must be a thinker too.
-
Ooh-rah!! Maybe if one tenth of the crap movies the studios put out now were half as good as this I might start going to the movies again.
-
<i>Spielberg (who presumably would just be producing) apparently flipped for writer Stuart Beattie's spec script for the story of Microsoft's faceless hero and his fellow soldiers fighting evil aliens on a giant space hoop.</i> Stuart Beattie was the lead writer on <i>G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra</i>. True to form, his script has the Master Chief fighting the Covenant because no one loved him as a child. Also, Chad is a dork, as is MovieBob.
-
Chad is right. The book was total crap. Boring as all get out. If I read something sci-fi, I dont want to read a chapter where he reminisces about his stupid math teacher or how he sees ol' dad before leaving for battle. The movie was great. But he's also wrong about Halo being crap. Halo had a great story, Halo 2 sucked balls and Halo 3 was a good half good/half-crap game. Also, this commercial LOOKs like a commercial. Neill Blomkamp's Landfall was a MILLION times better than this pathetic attempt to be what he was.
-
This was on joblo.com in August... "IESB says that Spielberg is "in active negotiations" to get his hands on the immensely popular HALO game franchise to resuscitate the deceased movie. Spielberg is apparently hoping he can take Master Chief further than his TINTIN partner could with Fox and Universal. Spielberg (who presumably would just be producing) apparently flipped for writer Stuart Beattie's spec script for the story of Microsoft's faceless hero and his fellow soldiers fighting evil aliens on a giant space hoop. Whether the pricey project can respawn with the now-funded Dreamworks and their new home at Disney remains the big question." So don't rule it out, just hope that master cheif gets a gun to go after the covenate and not just a walkie talkie and flashlight.
-
Why is this not a full length movie? Now I know how the lone indian on the littered highway felt *tear*...
-
Tens bucks says Chad just watched the moviebob "review" of D9 because that's what Bob said, (and by review I mean MovieBob just said D9 was good really he just sad it was good and spent the rest of the time bitching about the new Star Trek movie)
-
I would have preferred a live action Red V Blue.
-
"Looking forward it?" I smell a "whose responsible this" coming on....
-
I need a new monitor; my crotch just exploded. And that's strictly from the aesthetics.
-
All due respect, but I am curious here... are you reporting about additional footage not yet seen, or the same trailer that's been out for a week? The reason I ask is because the buzz over it has been good so far and a lot of us would like to see more, but if it's merely the same 1:33, then it's nothing new.
-
ok chad you're a weaboo. now you can crawl back to your naruto cave, thanks. i totally agree with james, we need a Starship Troopers reboot, now.
-
Hey James, go back and read Starship Troopers again. This is NOTHING like what the book is like. The book had leaping mech suits that did hit and run sorties. And it had very little of this, and much more talking about political philosophy and random crap. Terrible book. The movie was better for being anything but the book, and for being B-movie campy, and for bringing back Doogie the mad genius child M.D. glory as a phsychic soldier who scans bugs who look like vaginas. EPIC!!! I'm glad Peter Jackson didn't tarnish his awesome track recrod of never making a bad movie to make some shit movie based on a super generic FPS (a genre that sucks ass anyways). What I'm not glad about is that the live action Evangelion movies Weta was supposed to work on fell through. The Rebuild was hardly a consolation prize, though glasses girl Miss Illustrious is a damn fine peace offering to fans. That and Asuka's test plugsuit.

In case you're interested, here is the extended version, I think it is about a minute longer. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IklqPx3unjs&feature=player_embedded
-
WOW as some one who has not enjoyed even a second of the halo franchise I would see that movie the day it came out. Fantastic!!!
-
This would be closer to what Starship Troopers is SUPPOSED to be. It's an amazing book where the troopers are more like these odst guys or in some respects even closer to the Spartans. Either way. I want a full length version of this. In IMAX! from start to finish, not like 3 scenes. I'd see it everyday for a week. sometimes twice.
-
Wow... I'm not a fan of Halo, but this trailer kicks ass! I was not interested in a Halo movie, but now? I want it! And yes, someone should make a Starship Troopers movie looking like this. Also, i would like to point out: in this trailer the spoken language is hungarian! And I'm a hungarian, from Hungary, so my hearth is filled with joy!
-
Screw the Halo movie. This is exactly what I wanted Starship Troopers to be.
