I don't want to say "Epic Mickey Is Epic Fail" because I still like the premise of the game. But the first actual screenshots of the game have come out, and... well, judge for you. Look real hard at that concept art above, then look at the video slideshow of the game's screenshots below.
...yeah. Looks like Ape Escape with a more somber palette. Which is fine -- I enjoyed Ape Escape on the PS2 -- but this is hardly the artistic mindfuck that was implied by the concept art... that lovely, impossibly awesome concept art. So while I'll be interested to see the gameplay in action, I'm officially no longer losing my mind over Epic Mickey. And I'm sad.

Such a shame. Check out that last screenshot in the slideshow. It reminds me of Bubsy 3D.
If a 3D platformer reminds anyone of Bubsy 3D then something is going wrong somewhere along the line.

I can only hope that those are leaked images and that they are early development, when they just wanted to get the level designs right and make sure the AIs weren't bumping into walls. The cave shot looks good, and is close to what I wanted to see the whole game made of(twisted, running-colour variations of older properties), but still not as awesome as the art work prepared me for.

You are being way too harsh. It is obviously early development. Better shading is going to make the game look much better.

I'm sure the shading and whatnot will be improved. What I fear isn't is the actual artwork. I'd be fine playing a game with a cool concept but so-so graphical renditions of it. Hell, I grew up on the 8 bit nintendo. But not the other way around.

here's my take
the concept art made me have hope that there might actually be a good game with mickey mouse in it, but the slideshow brought me back down to earth. the target audience ain't gonna want a bleak dark mickey game, which would have been cool, no they want it kid friendly bc that is what disney and mickey as well as the wii seems to aim for. its a shame though, disney always loses a large chunk of fans around puberty but at the same time gains new ones automatically at birth. it's like they know this and can get away with this shit

I really want to like this game because of the story, but these screen shots don't give me much hope for the game. Like others are saying it looks like a playstation 2 game. Hopefully the graphics improve, but as it is now epic mickey does in fact equal epic fail......

Yeah, I'm a little bummed about it too. Even more bummed that it was originally planned as multi platform and then they decided to focus on the Wii. Something tells me that with the extra processing power, it would have looked more like the concept art.

Should they try, yes, they could make this look better on the Wii. There are Gamecube games that look better than this, graphically, and the Wii is certainly more powerful.

I'm sitting in the "it's probably an early build, it'll probably look cooler later" camp. The Kingdom Hearts games had better graphics than that, and those were certainly about as dark as this plot looks to me... Anyway, I'm still hopeful!

The fact that it's on Wii means nothing. Resident Evil 4 (even though it isn't exclusively a Wii game) is awesome on Wii, as are many other adult games.

I dunno, I still think it looks pretty cool. Yes, it looks more "kiddy" than before, but Spector says in the GameInformer article that he was going for a mix of "dark" and "cute". I must reiterate: Reserve full judgment on *anything* until you experience it. Doomsaying helps no one.

I'm gonna chalk it up to the Wii. It just can't really produce the graphics that would have done this justice. This thing look so atypical of platformers of last gen it hurts.

This game isn't even going to be released until 2010 according to Destructoid. Link for proof, just in case. So yeah, this is definitely not finished product. At any rate, graphics do not make the game; I can think of plenty of awesome games with shitty graphics and shitty games with awesome graphics. Yeah, it'd be great if this game had both but if it's a bit lacking in that department when it IS a finished product, it doesn't matter as long as the game is fun to play.
And if it's kid-friendly... well, this is Disney. Most of their products are geared towards children and teenagers. The rest of us are peripheral consumers. They're glad we're here and buying, but if we get huffy about it and storm off, they're not gonna lose any sleep because we're not the target demographic, just a kind of bonus.
Personally, considering what the game is and who it's probably supposed to be for, I'm fairly impressed with this early build. They've got a year more to work on it and I want to see where this goes. Okami with Mickey Mouse in a weird dark(ish) world? That's got my attention.

Way too much whining up in here. The game looks fine. Did you really expect it to look JUST like the concept art? Has any game ever looked like its concept art? It's in early stages of development and isn't due until this time next year. Have you seen anything Mickey related that's this dark, even if it isn't as dark as the art? No, you haven't, this is fine. What you're failing to realize is that the man behind System Shock and Deus Ex is running the show, and if you can look at his track record and think "durh, this sucks!" you have issues.

Epic Fail, but no surprise when they announced it was a wii exclusive. Can't remember if it was TR or Kotaku who said that there was a plot-related reason Mickey's face isn't shown in any of the concept images, but from the screenshots he looks completely normal?! Massive disappointment.

Its too early to tell but everyone had this billed as a steampunk game or some such shit and as cool as thay would have been its not. The goofy pic we saw a while back IS I repeat IS the model of goofy you find in game. Its gonna be fun. The story is complex and not all sunshine and roses, there is a darker side to the game and I think it has the potential to be epic, just not final fantasy VII epic

As for people hating on the Wii, it is capable of much better than that. Take a look at Muramasa or A Boy and His Blob. Hopefully the game will look a lot better when it comes out, but Disney can be...unreliable.

First off, WRT. Ahem..
I am fairly certain that as a game, the final product will probably be a subpar experience, or at best, an "adequate" and serviceable platformer. The concept art was friggin' _mindblowing_, and I was expecting something along the lines of the original Kingdom Hearts, Mk II. What a (predictable) letdown, Disney.
The slideshow looks like a goddamn PS1 game.
