It's the natural order of things. Unlike the happy couples who used zombie flicks and Super Mario World to get engaged, these adorable Australian nerds used their love of Portal and the anime Revolutionary Girl Utena to get married. That's the happy couple Anli and Laura above, dressed as Anthy and Utena respectively, and yes, they are indeed two women who are in love, and more power to 'em, I say. I also sincerely hope that you will save any catcalls for my next Sexy Acts of Nerdery post and use the comments to wish them congratulations. Check out Offbeat Bride for more picks of their wedding, them posing with Nintendo DSes, and their awesome Companion Cube wedding cake. Thanks to everyone who sent this in, and my best to Anli and Laura!

This is the kind of wedding I always fantasized about. With our large families and choice to have it in our hometown, my husband and I settled for Halloween night, and piano arrangements from the FFVII and FFVIII soundtracks. It was eclectic, to say the least. But ours, to be sure. :D That's what weddings should be about- less nonsense tradition and more personal touches. I think these girls look absolutely beautiful- not just because they're pretty girls, but because you can *tell* they're doing it right. And so very epically, I might add. <3 Congrats to them!
-
I proposed to my ex while we were dressed as Joker and Harlequin for halloween last year. We were going to do a steampunk wedding. we're not together anymore, but, eh.
-
I LOVE THIS!!!! Totally awesome!!!
-
Awww! They are so cute it's sickening.
-
*I* would marry a woman if she agreed to an Utena themed wedding!
-
I love the "Just til I get to a save point..." photo from the link! That is so geeky!
-
GOWNWANT!!! Best of luck and love to the two lovely brides. One of my greatest regrets was that I did not get to attend my father's union to my 'stepmom' Bill, long before gay marriage came anywhere near a courtroom or ballot success. I'm glad that these ladies aren't letting anything bar them from celebrating their love.
-
I'm liberal and open minded and pro-same sex marriage and I also think these two are hot hot hot hot hot hot hot. So eat me. Also, Level Up for these two.
-
I'm meh on the Utena aspect, though it was clearly beautiful. But (geek + wedding + lesbian + Australian outlaw)^2 = nothing but radical. Congrats to the two brides, and let's hope they're marriage will be legally recognized very soon-- in Australia and here in the states. Well, everywhere, really.

loD'a'be'mey,qay'be =|
-
@ Bearfoot: Dude, I publicly apologized. Plus I left it alone. Maybe you should have read that?!
-
Ahhh...geeks in love *sigh* I wish them nothing but the best.
-
congratulations to the brides! i applaud them for creating the wedding THEY wanted, and for marrying whom they wanted (despite the lack of a legal union). so technically, they are beautiful geek lesbian OUTLAWS. i hope they get legal recognition for their union, but for now they are even cooler for being outlaws.
-
Re: Same-sex marriage/unions in Australia - Nope. At least one of the States/Territories (Australian Capital Territory) has been trying to pass legislation permitting same-sex civil unions, but the previous government changed the legislative definition of "marriage" at the federal level to explicitly only be between "a man and a woman". The federal Senate is currently conducting an inquiry into legalising same-sex unions of some description (whether as "marriage" or "civil union" or other). Lots of info here if anyone is interested: http://www.australianmarriageequality.com/ Still, great to see that the current non-recognition of same-sex unions isn't stopping people in love from celebrating their love with their friends and family in true geek style. I would have loved to have been invited to such a gorgeous and geeky wedding.

@Batman Try looking up "Gotham Cruisers"--if you can't swing a replica kit, maybe you can find someone who'd lend/rent you one for the ceremony. (And at the risk of being impolite, I'm kinda guessing this is the sort of thing one has *plenty* of time to plan out. Even aside from the fact of not actually having a fiance, yet. :) )

My wedding, should I find a girl nerdy enough, will be some sort of uber geek wedding. Batman, Back to the Future, Indiana Jones, something. And it will have full friggin' stunts performed by me and my bride. My ideal wedding is Batman themed. I'm Batman, she's Catwoman - the Michelle Pheiffer leather suit one. The Bat signal shines in the air. There's fog machines all over. I come down in my batsuit on a sky hook. Commissioner Gordon, the one marrying us, stands in front. My Catwoman prowls down the aisle, black roses in hand. Robin, my best man, of course, stands at my side. Harley Quinn is the maid of honor, naturally. We're in the middle of listening to the preacher/Gordon talk, when lo and behold, Joker! He crashes the wedding. Harley gasses my bride. I whip Joker's ass, revive Catwoman, we say "I Do," then make our exit on the sky hook. Outside, we take off in the "batmobile" (probably a black trans am with some bat mods). Ah, the perfect nerd wedding, for me. I know a girl crazy enough to do the wedding itself, but probably not the marriage...damn.
-
Ah, Nerd Love! Congratulations to the lovely couple! My best wishes from an (also) Utena fan. Muchas felicidades a las recien casadas! ;)
-
If I ever get married, I hope to have a totally nerd/geek wedding. I think that's really the only way to go. I'm not that big on Utena (I watched it and enjoyed but it wasn't my favorite) but this is a heconcept and more power to them. Congratulations to the brides.
-
Please excuse captain draino. He apparently needs to get laid. With that said I wish the two brides the best of luck with thier life together.
-
I think this is awesome! Good for them for embracing what they love and making it such a lovely part of their special day. =)
-
Well, as a nerdy lady and lady-lover myself, this gives me hope. What an absolutely lovely couple! Can't wait for their ten year anniversary pics!
-
As Shakespeare wrote "The sight of lovers feedeth those in love" good to see that people are happy regardless of nerdery or sexual orientation.
-
Congrats to the happy brides! Live long and prosper!
-
Their marriage threatens my long-term engagement!! Dammit.
-
Scortia: Are you kiddin'? ROSESROSESROSES EVERYTHERE is Uthena theme enough for me.

I admit, I sometimes go over /v/ in 4chan in hope of seing a good thread about vidya,no matter how low the qualities of their posts are. But then, I got that link I send to Rob later on. I actually found it pretty amusing how much the /v/irgins raged so much about it, for 1) Same sex rights 2) Their nerdery of Portal 3) lesbians 4) ??? 5) Profit! It was a whole shitfest and I admit I was one of the trolls who made fun of the pathethy /v/ and it's very members represent. Ah well, glad you guys love it.
-
Sweet jeebers, I officiate one ceremony and suddenly it's displacing my nerd news on every site I visit. I can only assume that were I to do this for more couples I'd no longer be able to get any geek-related bloggertainment whatsoever. :-)
-
Haha, awesome. This is the third news post I've seen about Laura and Anli. They're both friends of mine, though I haven't seen them in a couple of years since they live on the other side of the country now. The mostly positive reaction on this site and others is really good to see.
-
Aw, this is so sweet. Delightfully geeky yet very classy. It looks like the perfect fairytale wedding. The pictures are gorgous. I hope they have a great future. Aw, I can't get over how lovely this is...just...awww!
-
The Utena element in this wedding is severely lacking, but cute nonetheless. Having a cake Chuchu "eating" the Companion Cube cake would have been hilarious.
-
Gamer geek cosplay lesbian weddings. Y'know, I'm still mad about the lack of moon colonies, but if this is what the rest of The Future holds, I think I can at least forgive the lack of flying cars. My congratulations to the happy couple!
-
great wedding pictures and an adorable cake. Congrats, ladies!
-
This is probably this least likely thing ever to have happened. EVER. Think about it. Girl gamers are rare enough, but two meeting up and getting married? Consider my mind blown. Congrats!
-
Congrats, ladies! Good luck with everything!
-
Aww.... They're both so cute, and I love the wedding pictures. I only hope my wedding ends up being half so geeky/ kick ass! Congratulations and good wishes for the both of them.
-
@ Fredsavage: Consider your post yanked within the next 15 minutes with that one. (facepalm) I didn't start the hate here, people. Just sayin'.
-
awww how cute! :3 best wishes to the happy newlyweds! You picked the best anime ever to have your wedding based on <3 and cake looks quite delicious, I'm super jealous I didn't get to have some XD
-
Beautiful bride, beautiful groom (er... bride), and beautiful friends. But most importantly, did you see that @#$%ing cake! The word "beautiful" does not do it justice. That, is a crazy awesome cake!
-
Truly awesome... Truly truly awesome... -nods nods and attempts to steal some of the cake via computer portal technology and fails- damn...
-
Does Australia have Same-sex marriage/unions?
-
@ Templar: Dude, just apologize and stop while your ahead. We be gettin' yanked off here, mate. I wasn't trying to be nasty or malicious. Just a comical perv. But you are full of hate on this matter. I almost sense that you hate the gay community.
-
OK OK. I'll make a public apology here to whomever I offended. I'm man enough to do that. But seriously folks, I wasn't picking on two people who are the same sex getting married. I was just clowning around above and being a perv. Let it be understood that I DO NOT have a problem with gays, lesbians and everyone else (GLEE). That is all.
-
This made my contacts mist over with happy squee. Congratulations to you both.
-
I really hate the fact that noone here can be mature enough to just be happy for some newlyweds. Come on,people, enough of the world already thinks we're basement dwelling neckbearded subhuman trolls,no need for Templar,Draino, and all the posters soon to follow to prove them right.
-
Wow, the cake is NOT a lie?!?! Also the picture of them nose-to-nose is adorable.
-
This was a triumph.
-
Yo, Yo. Im'a gonna let ya'll get back to your OOOO's and AAAAHHH's. But I'm more interested in what happened in the honeymoon suite! Just sayin'.
-
I saw the pics earlier when I was linked to them on Twitter, and they seem like an awesome couple! If either of you ladies are reading this (or if anyone on here knows them), I wish you a long and happy life together full of love and geekiness!
-
That cake is awesome. Best wishes, you crazy kids!
-
Wow. That is so romantic and adorable.
-
Awww...love it. I adore classy nerdery. Best wishes to them!
-
Congrats to both and mad props for the idea. The cake is awesome.
