I think the worst part is how effectively this dude achieved the flying panties, complete with flapping. It looks exactly like a pair of panties are flying through the air should... which is hopefully the most terrifying sentence I'll ever have to type. Also terrifying: The fact that I didn't use this for Super Terrific Japanese Thing, coming up in just a few hours. Does this mean I have something worse? Uh-oh... (Via Japanator)

Now he has to make the jet propelled type. I love this as it reminded me of the old balsam wood planes I used to make as a kid 40 years ago.

OMFG! That was absolutely hilarious!!!
WTF is wrong with those Japs?! Some days I don't know whether to cry tears of joy for their awesome ingenuity or cry tears for their absolute perversion. They confuse the hell out of me.
But this is an epic win!

I can just imagine a middle aged Japanese man running around in the park with those flapping panties.

If this beautiful video has taught me one thing, it's invest in Japanese companies. This guy designed a lightweight, self-propelled flying pair of panties.
The equivalent invention in the US would be to have loaded 10,000 panties into a t-shirt cannon. Much less elegant, and very little thought to design.
Do yourself a favor, start trading on the Japanese market.
Now, I need to call my broker. And Google "t-shirt cannon" for prices.
'Paradox, out!

They should mass produce this. Hell, I'd buy one. If only for the stories. Imagine if your flying panties landed on a woman's child in the park.
I mean, what would you say?

Is anybody else not surprised that he didn't have a friend around to hold the camera while he wound the rubber band?

It would be cool if we could launch a flock of panties down on times square...

That flew a lot better then I expected it to. Cause you know, panties =/= aerodynamic.

That's actually very technically impressive. Panties or no panties, it flew like a butterfly using only a very simple propulsion mechanism

Pffft...call me when this guy breaks the sound barrier, or creates something so realistic that it fools the impossibly sharp eye of a hungry raptor. This is meerly Kittyhawk, people. Celebrate the proof of concept, but aero-panty technology is still in its infancy.

Rob, I understand now why you have separate tags called "Japan" and "Disturbing Acts of Nerdery".
That is all.

Sure you all laugh now. But, they've alreay built a giant robot and now they've mastered flying panties.
It's only a matter of time before they use genetics to create a tentacle monster and a giant rubber, fire-breathing dinosaur.
I bet you won't be laughing then will you.

This is, as my best friend says, the epitome of Japan.
Yet, I'm sure, there are quite a few people (should I use that term loosely?) in other countries who dream of the same.
If they can engineer it, as pervy as it would be, having actual living flying panties in the air would make quite the tourist attraction ... hmmm ... maybe there'd be a world wide moment of peace as the world turns to watch on CNN as the graceful creatures soar for the first time ...
Sooo scarrrryyyyyy!
