The Black Lightning I'm talking about is the Russian movie produced by Nightwatch/Daywatch director Timur Bekmambetov and about a kid who finds a flying car and becomes a Russian superhero. This new trailer... well, it looks like the movie takes itself utterly seriously, which is awesome when there's clearly an evil corporation that wants the flying car and ends up making an evil flying Mercedes in retaliation. After the fun but flawed Nightwatch series -- maybe I just can't wrap my head around Russian storytelling -- I'm a bit wary of Black Lightning, but it's gotta be worth a look. I mean, c'mon -- a flying car fight? That's the international language right there. (Via Twitch)

Even though I don;t know a flick of Russian, the previews looked pretty cool. And it looks original too. This isn't "Herbie the Lovebug". This is "Wolvie the Fuck-Shit-Up-Ride"!

I did not like "Daywatch". The story was impossible to follow and I have a feeling that wasn't because it was in Russian. But this does feel slightly better told. Maybe worth a rental... Maybe...

Between the corrpution and the fact that this was probably financed by an oil billionaire as a tax dodge, my guess is that this was ANYTHING but cheap.
Also - russians making movies about evil Germans is always kinda worrisome.
