TBBT is such a great show.... tons of nerdy references and painfully realistic characters.

Wheaton's playing a villainous WoW player on The Guild right now too. I guess he's finally found a niche playing to his nerd fanbase.

that was a decent clip but the show still blows- I recommend anyone to track down the IT Crowd if they are in the mood for less heavy handed and pandering geek humor

@CBell: Is the IT Crowd even available in America? I know there was an ill-fated US version of the show, but that was canned. And I never thought of IT crowd as a specifically geeky programme, whereas to get 99% of TBBT's jokes you kindd of have to be a nerd. Which is good, dammit! Not enough of that kind of stuff on TV.

You know, it's been a while since I've played M:TG, but I'm not sure they are doing it right. You'd think at least Wheaton, who has real life nerd credit (as opposed to the others, who, while looking pretty nerdy, are just actors) would make the game look a bit more like how I remember it.

See, not only does the show have just spot on writing, but to make to go full circle... Will Wheaton is rocking a Fruit Fucker shirt from "Penny Arcade."

It just makes it knows that ' yes, I'm going to stab you in the back, and then enjoy my freshly raped OJ.'

It's worth watching this clip just to see a PA Fruit-Fucker T-shirt get some air time.

I hate this show on a level that is so great I think the only thing it shares it's hate circle with is probably fucking Carlos Mencia.

What's so great about it? Geek references? That's it? What about the annoying acting? The flat characters? the same premise we've seen a million times over? I can't stand this show..

Anyone wanting something entertain with a geeky flavor give Chuck or The IT Crowd a try.

as for IT Crowd vs TBBT - IT Crowd is pretty good, but it's basic sitcom with dysfunctional nerds...TBBT seems to be more like what is actually happening to most of the Topless Robot readers right now

I've been a fan of this show for a long time. I have to say, though, when the normally taciturn Sheldon let loose with a furious snarl of, "Fetch me Wil Wheaton!" I never thought I'd stop laughing.

I was lucky enough to spend a few years in the UK where I was introduced to the show but NTSC region DVDs were released over the summer and I snatched season one off of Amazon. I'm reasonably sure both of the others are available as well although I had no idea there was an Americanized version, was it actually released?

Maybe I've only seen the wrong episodes and I'll give TBBT another chance and check out a few more online- anyone recommend a particular episode as a selling point (besides the above)?

I actually started watching IT Crowd over the weekend --- it's available in Netflix's Instant Queue, all three series made so far --- and, while it's funny, I enjoy TBBT a bit more. They're two different flavors of humor so I guess it depends on what you're in the mood for.

Jim Parsons totally makes TBBT for me though.

I have that exact Fruit F#@$er image as my desktop background right now. It's about time we had another FF strip from tycho and gabe. As always, props to Wheaton. And I wasn't even a big Trek fan.

This was one of the best gags the show has had. The only time I've laughed harder was during the conclusion of the Christmas episode.

It was alright, and I got a bigger kick out of him wearing the FF shirt, but in terms of geek laughs, Venture Bros did a much better job this weekend.

TBBT is a half hour of nerd bliss followed by a Chuck Lorre rant card (if you don't read these it's your loss). Yeah it's an american sitcom and suffers from standard story formulas but the level of geek-ness still makes it great. They really seem to strive to put stuff in the show that only geeks can understand and appreciate. From the Periodic Table shower curtain to the Fruit Fucker T-shirt (I about fell off the couch when I saw it). I like IT Crowd as well, but TBBT is my weekly vice.

That episode was nothing short of a thing of beauty.

+1 Rocco. The end of the Christmas episode was hilarious. If anyone unfamiliar with the show wants to see what it's capable of, see that one. It's titled, "The Bath Item Gift Hypothesis."

I walked in part way through this and shouted loudly to Sheldon "Never trust Will Wheaton!!" I was right. Wheaton's a douche (I take that back he's probably a wonderful person but if I ever meet him I will not trust him)

loved how sheldon once again proved to be his worse enemy for he had will on the ropes then fell for oh so sorry my grand ma died only to be beated by the old grandman trick. proving why the show is such a good show.

i'm not a fan of the show. it's like the writers look up on the internet what it's like to be a nerd and put in the show all possible cliches they find.

You do NOT have to be a geek to LOVE this show. I'm not a trekkie but I have seen Trek II: The Wrath of Kahn so I get the quotes. Also, not every joke Sheldon makes is about nerdy stuff. A LOT of it is about his obsessive compulsiveness (his special seat on the couch, his only eating certain meals on certain days, etc.) He definitely makes the show. I think it started as a Galecki vehicle but Parsons has emerged as the star. My wife is no nerd either and she LOVES the show.

@MerlinTWizard: Rob refers to it as faux-Magic: The Gathering......what is that supposed to mean? What they're playing is clearly not Magic, but it doesn't seem to resemble anything at all, except maybe Yu-Gi-Oh. Since faux-Magic implies some resemblance to Magic, Rob's description doesn't work, and thus the commentators are confused.
