Ash shows up and chainsaws this franchise to its death.

Oh, man, not two villains again. It was the overly-busy "two villain" story that ruined Spider-Man 3. If they'd stuck to one plotline, with a couple subplots, instead of two distinct and almost completely separate plotlines, it could have been a good movie.

Please don't make the same mistake and ruin Spider-Man 4.

She's also supposed to be playing Mary Jane in the Spider-Man Broadway show...assuming they actually make it off the ground, that is.

Wouldn't it be just as likely that this casting "news" is just a bad game of 'nerd telephone' away from her involvement with that?

Two villains are fine if there's enough of a differentiation between them. Since you can't really do a big throwdown with the Black Cat to close the movie, you need a monster type there at the end, so the Lizard makes sense. But Lizard isn't really the type who can carry a full movie, cue Felicia.

Mrs. McAdams-Poopoopachu has long been the apple of my eye -- and that was without any nerdcore performances. This is an epic development in our lives.

Honestly, I so couldn't see her in an action role. She just doesn't seem like the type. Nonetheless, it could be interesting.

As for the dual villains, they really need to learn their lesson on this. Three villains is way too much. Two villains just takes away from each other a little too well unless the writing is really good (and it's typically not). One is better off, really, especially amongst the Spidey villains, who have quite the backstories themselves.

I agree with CChaos on this. There is not enough time in a spidey movie to have two. That's not to mention they haven't set up the lizard. Sure we have met Dr. Connors but only as a one armed college proffessor not so much the scientist working on regenerating limbs. Coughstemcellscough

Now I'm not all about big breasts, but when casting Black Cat, I would think you'd want someone to fill out the costume. McAddams is beautiful, but not what you'd think in body type for Black Cat.

As for multiple villains? I don't have the slightest problem. The problem comes when the creators don't know what to do with them. Plus Cat is more of a gray area ally than straight up villain.

I always HATED Dunst as Mary Jane. She's all wrong for the role. She's not hot enough and plays it WAY too bitchy and whiny. By casting Rachel McAdams as the Black Cat, this franchise FINALLY gives us some eye candy!

The problem now is that I couldn't believe for one second that Spidey wouldn't leave MJ for the Black Cat. Hell, even for Gwen (she was pretty hot herself). They SO screwed up casting the role of Mary Jane...

In a related note I would tottaly give Ms. McAdams the awkward 30 seconds of her life.
I myself figured back when brice dallas howard was cast that she was a sure fit for the black cat and the outfit. She looked hot with platinum blonde hair

To paraphrase a friend of mine (who's bachelor party is this weekend): I would drink Rachel McAdams' bathwater. She's perfect.

And, no, one might not initially think to cast her as Black Cat (not because of her breast size-- that's just silly-- but because her career thus far does not have Action Heroine written all over it). But, remember, she is going to be in Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes film, so it stands to reason she got to do some stunts and got bit by the action bug. Happens to everyone, see Robert Downey, Jr. as Exhibit A (conveniently enough).

The said, she seems to have the acting chops to pull off any role, and it'll be nice for Felicia's dark side to rub off on her a bit. For more Rachel McAdams goodness, check out the first season of the Canadian series "Slings and Arrows."

I'm thrilled to hear she's up for Black Cat--and a lady villain to boot. Rowr!

I always look at any casting news of these corporate characters in the same way that I view news about a new writer or artist working on the characters in the comics. The characters always look different in the hands of different artists, and always act a bit different in the hands of different writers. So I view casting as just another form of interpretation. And the success or failure in any interpretation, to me, lies in whether or not they capture certain essential character beats. And just for record, in almost all cases, bra-size is not an essential character beat to me. I like Rachel McAdams, and I think she is a good actress, so for now I am intrigued.

Fine by me, Rachel McAdams is a solid actress and is stunningly beautiful.

Now if we can just get rid of Tobey Maguire as Spider-Man...

I really hate to admit that I've watched The Notebook, but for those of you talking about her 'not having the body for this,' I'd suggest that you watch that film. On mute, of course, because it is fucking terrible, but you see her in basically no clothes and she is curvy as hell. She's not a stick figure at all, and actually has a great body. Plus, she's actually a good actress, so I'll look at this as good news.

Also, I think she could pull off an action role. She did a good job kicking some ass in Red Eye.
