What's the deal with the giant scorpions?

There were 3 giant scorpions in the original. When the are camping after taking Medusa's head. Calibos comes and stabs the bag. The blood that drips out turns into 3 giant scorpions that attack the camp killing a bunch of them. Granted these seems a bit larger than the original but the basis is there.

It's not too bad. It's got giant CG scorpions and Medusa in it. It is missing some of the fancy wonder of the old film, but I'm guessing wonder doesn't sell well with today's crowds. I will potentially go see it.

The tag line is horrible. It looks like a clone of 300, just with monsters tossed in the mix.

I may go see it, just to laugh at how badly they slaughter Greek mythology.

The lack of clockwork owls is disappointing.

This must be the prequel to 300. I can't wait until FFF when I get to read about Perseus raping Medusa with her own hair ... or some variation of that.

Let's face it, 300 made a crazy amount of money, and people really liked it. Those same people will probably like CotT also, but wouldn't go if they presented it any way other than what they have here. Making it look like 300 equals butts in seats equals an audience it might not have otherwise gotten. It's targeted marketing at its best. I mean, have you spoken to someone who's not one of "us" that has see the original? It's apparently pretty "cheesy".

Of course, I've been told before that I'm sometimes too willing to give the benefit of the doubt.

It does not look too bad. My childhood will not forgive them if there is no Bubo the clockwork owl though. Some things are sacred.

It's a classic! first of all, there are tons of awesome monsters in the movie as Perseus tries to stop a monster of Poseidon from killing the woman he loves (who most be sacrificed to the monster) So he tries to collect the head of Medusa. Perseus travels with a group of red shirts. Now of course, the director who is famous for his monster movies included a lot of cool monsters. Like the giant scorpions. The movie looks cheesy to us, but at the time the technology was state of the fucking art.

Because no other movie has ever had people falling in slow-mo into a pit? Damn, someone better let Peter Jackson know that he was ripping off 300 when Gollum fell into the lava in RoTK. Get real, that shot of people falling in the pit was the Only slow-mo shot in the trailer. Besides, 300 wasn't just slow-mo, it was the surging in and out of it that the movie is better recognized for, and I see none of that here.

Honestly, the scenes don't look too bad. I think it's the over-the-top rock music that turns me off. It's all very Scorpion King and Kull the Conqueror to me and we all know how those movies did.

If they'd given it a dramatic score and a little more dignity, it may have helped. It certainly helped promote 300 when it came out and that movie was just awful.

Re: the whole 300 thing: The music in the trailer is clearly designed to illicit memories of 300 (and I pray to Liam Neeson that the generic "hard" rock won't be in the movie proper), otherwise, I don't really see the similarities in the cinematography or characters. Actually, I'd say there's a mess of influences going on here, from Pan's Labyrinth to LotR to even Troy.

There doesn't seem to be an original idea anywhere to be had-- at least not in the trailer. Still, I'll see it. I like the original that much.

I'm with cav... I didn't see any comic-book frame stills nor the dark red look of 300.

But there is a Titan in the original story, its the whole purpose of the quest. And there are Giant Scorpions, no problem amping up the action. I agree with the hard rock musica, unnecessary. But i believe this may be fun, to say the least.

I didnt like 300-- and this looks much better visually-- of course that could be because Im not a fan of Frank Miller...

However after seeing the design of the 3 new blind witches-- I expect to see Hellboy jumping around in the background..

Speaking as a half-Greek Scotsman I don't think I'll be laughing as this film slaughters Greek Mythology. There's nothing amusing about Hollywood repeatedly raping half of my cultural heritage. And they've done it to everything from the Iliad to the myth of Hercules.

It was also the teaser, so there wasn't much time to show Robot Owls or Goddesses discussing what animals they turn into when Zeus tries to rape them. Because todays films are all about rape and Star Wars inspired robots, roight?

The choice of music sucks. They should've made it an epic, classic score, not this stupid rock score which to me says we're trying to be cool and hard because we've got no substance.

Instead of the more complex story of Perseus, Andromeda and the capricious gods, they went on with the Greek myths but in a generic 80s action movie scenario, in which good US general (Zeus), sends a group of soldiers (Perseus and his group), to infiltrate a hostile foreign country (the Hades) to fight a evil general (Ares). Include monsters instead of foreign looking soldiers and voila: Is a Chuck Norris movie with armours, sandals and CGI monsters but with Sam Worthington as the hero...*face palm*

The CG looks cheap, the generic rock sucks very deeply and I am also quite outraged every single time they change the plot from the Greek mythology for movies, what is their problem with it? Too well constructed stories and characters? Too much sex and violence, but not the right type (read, Michael Bay type?) I can't believe we are condemned to see everything related to Greece with 300-rip off visuals. And that lava scene? Lord of the Rings much? *deep sigh, shot of absinthe, sob*

The movie looks amazing! and i am a fan of the original. Generic Rock? that gentlemen is not generic rock it is a song by The Used and i am pretty sure the soundtrack wont be rock. About the lack of the owl, what we have seen in this trailer is just part of the film, they arent showing all the monsters or all the tricks, just some money shots and action. The owl might still be there and winged horse. About looking like 300? Dont look like it at all, just look at the falling of the statue and half of the trailer's scene and you will notice it is filmed on location, old style in the freaking cannary islands not in a studio lot. So get your horses straight and give the movie a look cause it looks to be amazing.

As long as the have the Judi Bowker bathing scene in it then I'm cools.

I was listening to Lisa Gerrard from Dead Can Dance (soundtrack for "Gladiator" et al) and hit mute on the trailer and let her play through the second time I watched it. That helped a lot. What craptastic music.

I just watched Clash of the Titans last night. It's still a classic not for it's special effects, but for the pacing, simplicity, story telling and knowing that the Gods weren't that freaking outlandish in trying to stop true love and destiny.

I was always fearful of a remake. Harry's monsters and effects were a perfect charm for adding suspense and drawing out scenes in the movie. Like Medusa searching her lair. I loved that feeling her stalking brought.

Now we have rock music, cramped scenes and all this other garbage to lure people into watching it because a story around a few characters isn't good enough for an ADD audience.

I'm casting my lot with those who say this looks like fun. Sure, it looks like they were just trying to make a movie that mashes up God of War with Lord of the Rings rather than a remake of Clash of the Titans, but I find nothing wrong with that. The original Clash of the Titans will still exist (and hopefully get a Blu-Ray release because of the remake).

Also, after reading PopBunker.net's post, I decided to play some music from Gladiator over the teaser (specifically "The Battle" from about 6:25 on). It improves it immensely.

I'd rather patronize this movie than some of the other shite that oozes out of Hollywood. I loved the original and am looking forward to this - it's time to update this classic, in my view.

Looks pretty good to me, but doesn't look at all like the original. I can see how die-hard fans of the original would be mad, though. Generally remaking old fantasy films is a bad idea, but hopefully this one will go against that trend, like Peter Jackson's King Kong, for example.

I fear we will NEVER get a correct adaptation of any formerly wide spread great mythology out of hollywood. At some point there is always some big wig bound to say something like "nah. it's just not belivable for everyday sam. let's give the script to my 14 year old nephew with ADHS over night, he just cracks me up whenever he opens his mouth. plus, fire this homer guy, he doesn't know squat about storytelling."

Greek Myths were insanly gory full of sex and the heroes doing epic shit like fight gaint bugs and the Greeks were sexist and xenophibic who saw anyone not Greek as inhuman monsters (so 300 is pretty much how the Greeks saw it)

in other words the God of War game are lighter and softer than the Greek Myths (The Dude never rapes little boy like real Spartans)

Why did they feel they needed to make Hades the bad guy in this? He was on pretty good terms with the rest of the Pantheon. Stop shoving Christian tropes into Olympianism, Hollywood!
Shouldn't there be a Kraken (actually a Scandinavian monster, but there's a sea monster in the myth too) in this? That's kind of the whole reason he needs to slay Medusa.
The title is a misnomer as all the Titan clashing occurred prior to the Olympians ruling the universe. Do not believe the tagline.

It's a teaser trailer with almost no dialogue...but in all I think it looks pretty alright.

I try not to judge to harshly based on what the trailer is like. You see, the marketing guys that put the trailers together hardly consult (if ever or at all) the guys who actually make the movie.

So if its a bad trailer, I know it still might be a cool movie. For instance, the trailer for Black Hawk Down made it look like another "Courage Under Fire" (with Meg Ryan & Denzel). Then, I went to go see it because I was bored, and sweet jeebus that movie kicked @$$! Nothing like the trailer.

Then there's the opposite effect where the trailer looks sweet but the movie sucks (or was a disappointment of some level). The first "Mission Impossible" comes to mind.

The rock music? Probably a choice from marketing. C'mon....even the super bowl trailer for "Gladiator" had rock music. Did any end up in the actual film? No.

Needlessly remaking an old film? I agree Hollywood doesn't need to remake things that were already awesome to begin with. "Psycho" for instance. But when they remake something that was kinda low budget, or cheezy, or not quite realized the way it should've been....I'm okay with that. Let's stop bashing on remakes. Not all remakes suck. John Carpenter's remake of "The Thing" was awesome right? So let's not bash every remake.

So far, this version of Titans looks okay to me. I'm still curious and willing to go see it. If I had to bash on one thing, it would be Sam Worthington's haircut. I mean, guys in those days may have sported similar hair cuts, it may be realistic. However, every time I see him, I keep thinking he's some U.S. Marine transported back in time. That haircut just screams modern military to me. Kind of takes me out of the period a tiny bit. Not huge deal but, its odd that they let him have that haircut.

Bleh. Like most adaptations of Greek mythology, this story appears to avoid the unpleasant fact that each and every monster of legend was sent as a well-deserved punishment from the gods for atrocities committed by rulers and tolerated by the citizens. The way to rid yourself of a Greek monster is not to slay it but to execute the blasphemous kings.

But far be it from me to suggest that a film incorporate any subversive political content....

So it's like this. I love the original "Clash of the Titans." But at the same time, I realize it's not spectacular, although I love it. I can list other movies like this, like "The Land that Time Forgot." I love it, it isn't spectacular, the special effects suck, etc.

What bothers me the most is that there's this whole new trend out there to hate on movies based on very little info. Yeah, some movies suck and you can tell from the previews but sometimes people just need to have an informed opinion.

I'm also tired of hearing people talk about Greek myths like their the written gospel. Umm, guess what, there's about three or four different versions of each myth out there and those are only the ones that are written down. Did you know that Medusa is beautiful? In one myth she is. In another, Medusa is one of three sisters with snake hair - they all are beautiful and turn men to stone. Only according to legend, Medusa is mortal, while her sisters are not.Popular culture decided to cast this aside, even though most goddesses come in triumvirates, especially in literature. Oh wait, according to the 1981 movie, Medusa's beauty threatened Aphrodite, who cursed her.

Oh, and the Kraken isn't a Titan. The Titans proceeded the Olympians - Maggie Smith's character Thetis (which is spelled incorrectly in the movie) is technically the only Titan.
The Kraken isn't even part of Greek mythology, it's Norse (even though the Norse don't call it the Kraken). Poseidon sends the KETOS - which means giant sea monster - in the Iliad.

And why would Zeus need to wear armor? IDK. He feels like it? But while we're on the subject. Why did he turn into a bull to rape a woman? Or a swan? Or a golden shower of rain? Why did he give birth to Athena through a headache? Marry his sister Hera? So many questions that will never be answered.

I'm just saying there's a lot of uneducated hate going around. It's OK to hate stuff. I do. Just don't sound ignorant when you hate.

Anyway, "300" was kinda fun, but once is enough. We don't need any ripoffs, really.

Two things:
One - this trailer looks sweet and gave me trailergasm.
Two - the loser-level nerds who dislike it because it's not clay animated probably need to walk into a jet engine.

Looks like a few Giant Radscorpions from Fallout 3 got loose on set and the director just decided to run with it.

One of the tales say that Zeus had sex with Medusa in Aphrodite's temple where she was a priestess. So Aphrodite turned into what we saw in the movie.

I don't think it's hating blindly to get on the band wagon, but magic will be lost. Hollywood has traded it's soul for wowing an audience with in your face action and sub par story telling.

Star Wars 1, 2 & 3 fell victim to that. And it wasn't a remake. They focus so much on visual that the stories are garbage. They've been dumbed down because the average movie goer demands less in plot and more in cgi and screen candy.

That's my gripe.

I am a fan of the original, and I hate remakes, but this movie doesn't look so bad. I looks sort of faithful to the original vision without the silly parts that hurt the first one. And I didn't see BUBO anywhere, which is a plus.

I know that disliking things is infinitely cooler than liking them, but can we give it a rest from time to time? That "generic hard rock" really wasn't all that generic. It looks like 300 because it's a movie set in ancient Greece with a heavy emphasis on visual effects. And the deal with the scorpions is that they came straight from the original Clash.

If this had been directed by Del Toro or Jackson everyone would be loving it, I promise.
