From 1982 comes this bit of insanity promoting Parker Brothers' legendarily lame Spider-Man game for the Atari 2600 in which Spidey attempted to save New York City from the Green Goblin and his so-called Super Bombs. What made said bombs so super? If Gobby's frantic appearance in this ad is anything to go by, crystal meth. Lots and lots of crystal meth. I used to think that the Burgertime ad with the Nazi hot dog was the most terrifying videogame ad ever. No longer. Jump to 0:19 and check out the horror when the Green Goblin taunts Spidey about "running out of fluid." Chilling. • C.C.

Man, the game was so bad even Spidey couldn't beat it. I think the Angry Video Game Nerd also made a similar point, but he wasn't paid to advertise that.
Though the costumes are pretty good. Better than the 80s TV show. [insert repeated phrase of lameness about Goblin outfit in first move here].

I can't remember what system it was for, but there was a commercial for R-Type (or possibly Super R-Type) where there's a kid playing the game, and he yells in fear and surprise when a hand lands on his shoulder from behind (we only see the hand, not the rest of the person). He relaxes when he realizes that it's his mother.
The hand starts limply brushing against his shoulder. The kid says "Mom?"
The camera pulls back as the kid looks behind him and we see that the arm is being held there, dead and limp, by some kind of monster hand. Cut to monster-eye-view. The kid screams, the camera rushes into his face, and cut-to-black.
I have been looking for that commercial online for years but have never found it.

I loved that game. I can't believe you actually thought it was lame at the time you were playing it...it only seems lame in the light of today's games. For the time, that was awesome stuff.

If I saw that commercial back then it would have blown my freakin mind. There wasnt alot of spiderman stuff back then, especially a "live action" one, I thought they both looked awsome.
I actually just got that game recently, and Its almost impossible to control. Once you get the hang of it, its alot of fun...
Spidey makes a great splat sound when he falls too.

I have that game! Man, it's frustrating. Like 90% of all Atari games. Play for 5 minutes, switch cartridge, and repeat until all hair has been pulled out.

Yet another Atari game that, when compared to other Atari games that were literally unplayable is actually quite good, gets bashed 25 years after it was released.

always thought seeing the commercial again that not only was the actor playing the goblin on something but also the execs who not only made the game and the commercial not to mention spider man was proably more upset over the goblin running around then if he would get the players of the game to help him.

Don't remember that commercial, but fondly remember the game. I often let Spidey fall and go *splat* because it always looked and sounded so cool when he went *SPLAT*

Man, that greeb goblin mask/make up is too realistic. How does it move the eyes and the mouth so realistically? it looks like the head is too big for the body, but then the lips and the eyes move with eerie accuracy.

It's sad that they could get somewhat close to the right look for the Green Goblin in 1982, yet the big-budget motion picture went with a fucking Power Ranger instead.
I always thought the rubber mask WITHOUT being able to move its mouth or anything would be creepy in the same way Jason's hockey mask is creepy.

I love how the Goblin just leaps off the building at the end. I would like to think he landed on his glider, but part of me thinks he was just too nuts in that one and fell straight down.
Either way, made me giggle.

Green Goblin really scared me. If that had been what Willem Dafoe wore in the movie, it wouldn't get nearly as much hate. Especially if it had been moulded to look like his crazy-ass face.
