• District 9

A tad uneven but wildly enjoyable nonetheless, this is the biggest and best release this week. Who knew that aliens + shantytown = blockbuster?
• Kyle XY: The Complete Third and Final Season
The final season of the ABC Family series that I have no opinion on comes to DVD. Fans of the show are pissed that the cliffhanger finale left several key plot points unresolved. A featurette on the set aims to calm some of these folks down. So take it easy, XYers.
• Ichi
A blind female samurai kicks ass and learns about life. Haven't we all been there?
• Guyver: The Complete Series (Viridian Collection)
The question is, will this make you forget about the Mark Hamill live-action film? Oh wait, you already have.
Comedy nerds have been waiting for this for a very long time. Contains the epic "Jim's Mario's" episode, easily one of Christopher Lloyd's finest moments.
A cute looking anime show about the exploits of a wolf deity and her travelling merchant pal based on the continuing novella series by Isuna Hasekura.
• Family Guy Presents: Something, Something, Something Dark Side
So it's come to this, huh? What a depressing note to end on.

District 9 = WIN
Spice and Wolf is pretty neat, plus it's one of those slice of live/romance type animes that the wife will actually watch with me.
Family Guy? Meh. Definitely a case of popularity != quality.

Certainly is fashionable to bag on the Family Guy, but I've personally been looking forward to this. The last one was a great deal of fun. I still get a little smirk when I remember the gag of Peter/Solo salvaging a "perfectly good" couch from the trash compactor.

Totally. Best part of the whole movie. Unbelievably accurate dialog for moving a couch.
I'm a bit burned out on FG's 10+ years of gags but that was gold. I'll pick this one up.

So, you're saying that someone can't have an actual gripe with Family Guy because it's become popular to rag on it (since, I'm guessing, South Park's "Cartoon Wars" episodes)?
Personally, I've been "meh" about FG since its inception, and time has only made that "meh" stronger-- turned it into a "feh," you might say. I'll freely admit that the show has moments that make me giggle or guffaw, but, generally, I'm not a fan in the slightest. And it's not due to being a bandwagoneer.

Eh, this really isn't worth arguing over, but saying, "Certainly is fashionable to bag on the Family Guy," is an attempt to negate any negative opinions on the show because, supposedly, the people uttering them are only jumping on the bandwagon of hate. It's a rhetorical flourish that allows the speaker the upperhand without having to defend his/her position.

I was excited for the Blue Harvest sequel until I saw the giant chicken. Family Guy definitely has its moments, but the problem is they recycle those moments over and over and over again.

Blue Harvest was funny, but when it comes to recent Star Wars parodies, Robot Chicken has it beat pretty solidly.

Glad that you put the two-disc version of D9 as the picture; I thought it was only a one-disc version being released tomorrow.
Man I really hate 1 disc versions; I feel like they're a ploy to trick people to buy a movie twice by not including extras in the one disc version. I got the latest one-disc Star Trek film as a gift and it didn't have any of the deleted scenes on it that have been hyped for months. How lame is that?

Eh... I never really liked the anime series of Spice and Wolf. It's good at some parts, and even great at a few, but I just hate the anime only character. I mean, I saw the anime before reading any of the manga or light novels, but I knew even then that she was out of place. They try to pass her off as a major character, but she is little more than a cardboard cut out that fails to add the extra layer of 'betrayal' to the series she was intended to.
The manga and novels are purposely episodic with the only constants being Larry, Haro, and their travels and relationship. The new girl gets added into try and tie it all together, but her story goes nowhere and has no real effect on anyone or any part of the main story. I never understood why she was there. She is the Jar Jar.

I know the trend is to put series' specials out on DVD (to make more money), but what's wrong with airing the special on TV? Or did I just answer my own question?
Why did SciFi put "Caprica" and "BSG: The Plan" on DVD when both would have drawn a big crowd on TV?
Why did Fox put the Family Special out on DVD when it probably would have also drawn big ratings?
Then again, I'm sure Fox would rather air a post-post-post football game analysis and push the Simpsons to 9:00pm, which knocks Family Guy off that night's schedule.

I enjoyed Blue Harvest, but I thought SSSDS was very mediocre.
Anyway, I'm most definitely picking up District 9 on Blu-Ray.
