I think the movie will prove Cheadle deserves the spot. That "all of them" line for the SDCC trailer was just bad ass!
-
Red. Rrrred! RRREEEDDD! Not burgundy!
-
Tony....tonyy in the girliest voice you could imagine....I hate Howard
-
Agreed, actor changes are potentially distracting, but Don Cheadle is pretty amazing, so why not wait until the movie is out? Also, I like how the War Machine armor looks more...rugged or something. I'm still wondering how they are going to work it into the story. Is it supposed to be some kind of prototype or something?
-
Agreed. "Get over it" is something a middle schooler would say when his best friend tells him that he's grounded. Regarding the recasting of Rhodes, it's tough to do a casting change on a popular movie. Does anyone remember when Jennifer was recast for the second "Back to the Future?" Probably not...but I guess I think (and I'm probably not alone on this) a recast, even if it's an upgrade, still feels weird. Look at the recasting for Rachel in "The Dark Knight." That was a pretty good upgrade, but I can understand why some people might have had issues with it...but maybe they should just "get over it!" Eh? See what I did there?
-
Seriously I don't think anyone can argue that Cheadle isn't a 10 times better actor than Howard. I can see people worries with Cheadle being smaller is stature, but look at Downy Jr he is about 5'9". Did he look small in the first Iron Man movie?? Heck film makers have been making Tom Cruise look over 5 foot all these year....they can sure make Don Cheadle look built.
-
yeah. whatever the hell movies george clooney's been making for the better part of a decade. he's your new sinatra. but my childhood is now your mainstream cinema. fuck. and yeah.
-
Keep in mind, we almost had Tom Cruise as Tony Stark.
-
No.
-
I love the poster, but still think recasting Rhodes was a mistake. I expect it to be a distraction, but not a big one, in what will otherwise probably be an awesome film.
-
Sorry, still prefer Howard. At least he physically fits the part. Don Cheadle's like five and a half feet tall with lifts in his shoes. I don't want a goddamn munchkin Rhodes. Still seein' the movie, be that as it may.
-
Seriously people? First fucking poster of Iron Man 2 is released, and all you wanna do it bitch about how awesome Terrence Howard with his dozen lines as Rhodey, and, "nothing against Don Cheadle," but he could never live up to how I see Howard as Rhodey, ever. For fuck's sake. Look at how fucking cool War Machine looks in that poster. I can't wait for more detailed pictures. Damn. And I second Rob's suggestion. If you can get Don Cheadle in your movie, do it, but fuck man, if you can Chiwetal Ejiofor in your movie, you snatch that opportunity as fast as you can. Terrence Howard isn't half the actor either of these guys are.
-
I was mostly an iron man fan in the 80s. So for me, Rhodey is this guy: http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_iW5bCdxTvCw/Rwfz_s68CfI/AAAAAAAAAaE/-pbCDG1Dqbk/s1600-h/RhodeyScream.jpg http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_iW5bCdxTvCw/RwreRs68C6I/AAAAAAAAAdc/ywHd53YlH4Q/s1600-h/353703896_113f2f8170_o.jpg And for some reason, in my head I always thought he shoulda been played by this guy: http://gvse.users.50megs.com/images/ep4e.jpg http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1444462/ Not just coz of the cool hair he had in GvsE, but because of his voice & presence.
-
Burt Reynolds as Tony Stark is almost as good as Robert Downey, Jr. But we could also have had Tom Selleck, in his Magnum P.I. prime. I wonder if that would have been better or worse than Three Men and a Little Lady. For sure, a Reynolds Iron Man would have been at least as good as Sharkey's Machine.
-
"Get over it." You know, this is such a pet peeve of mine. It's such a flippant, bitchy little phrase that is way overused and said mostly by Internet jackasses to outright dismiss what you're saying by making it seem like you're being petty. How about you get over yourselves?
-
Personally, I hope they re-cast Rhodey again for the third movie, with Chwitel Ejiofor in the role.
-
God-damn, if I listened to people on the Internet, I've had to "get over" just about everything.
-
BUUUUUDDDDDDDYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!
-
I approve.
-
Simply Awesome. For all you Cheadle v. Howard jackasses, get the fuck over it already. Someone said "the director is being a baby", but I say it's you pricks that are being babies. Not everything goes according to plan in your rosy little universes. I like Howard too, but he isn't half the actor Cheadle is. And besides, since he'll be INSIDE A FULL BODY COSTUME for huge portions of the movie, why does it really matter? Or are you all suddenly paying attention to the non-action sequences?
-
Nothing against Don Cheadle, but Jim Rhodes IS TERRENCE HOWARD!!! Look's like I'll have to use my imagination and pretend that Terrence Howard is in the film... I don't know if my imagination will work after watching Revenge of the fallen and I overworked it to see if I could get a non-sucky version.
-
This is gonna be too awesome for words.
-
I'm stoked for this and I'm not even a big fan of the various Iron Man comics. I can't help but think, though, that this series of movies would be better as a reboot. Like, I wish they had made one or two really bad Iron Man flicks twenty or thirty years ago with Burt Reynolds as Tony Stark. You know you're love to see that bit of casting magic.
-
War Machine was blatantly hyped in the first movie, so it´s almost a natural move to feature this caracther in the sequel. Whether it´s done right or a piss poor cash-in (see Venom) is yet to be seen. And also, this poster is plain awesome!!!
-
Yea I know. The director was being a baby about it.
-
I know it's too late, but am I the only one who feels it's way too soon for War Machine?
-
I completely forgot they were making a sequel...at least the reminder was nowhere near a disappointment. This looks pretty badass. =)
-
I just hope War Machine is a more natural and better utilized character/outfit in the film than the last time a movie featured someone wearing similar but slightly different outfit to the main character (Venom).
-
War Machine is going to fuck up so much shit in this film. Hopefully we'll get some energy sword action!!!
-
I fully agree with this statement.
-
I really think the red eyes are just to make him look bad ass, not so much to be evil. Hell maybe it is just targeting system, or Rodie really liked the virtual boy
-
I love the poster! I've already read comments from people bitching about it, saying that War Machine has red eyes, so he's a bad guy. What is this, Transformers?? I say it looks cool!
-
I 3rd this comment. I thought Howard was perfectly fine as Rhodes.
-
Yeah, while this poster is pretty bad ass, I too am disappointed about the recasting of Howard. Don cheadles a great actor, as is Howard, but I hate when I have to suspend disbelief that some totally different looking person is supposed to be the same character.
-
Man that looks great, I hope there is a second poster where they are facing the other way so we can get some good details of War machine. Also why do I have this feeling there is going to be a big iron man vs War Machine fight, but Rodie will have a change of heart and join forces at the end?
-
Doesn't anyone make movies for old farts anymore?
-
FUCK YES, WAR MACHINE!!!! that is all
-
I have to agree 100% with that, I hate when a major role is recast in subsequent movies.
-
Awesome! Simply awesome!
-
First, I very much approve. Second, I'm really excited to see Don Cheadle, being that I thought Howard (more specifically his voice) was the only thing that brought the movie down.
-
Pimpin!!!
-
I'm still vastly disappointed that Terrence Howard wasn't retained. Nothing against Don Cheadle, but Howard was great as Jim Rhodes and looked more like the character from the comics. It's a shame he won't be there when Rhodes gets the spotlight.
