TR reader Steven Davis sent me his fan-made MMPR movie trailer after it got mentioned in the TR comments yesterday, and it's awesome enough that I thought it was worth sharing. Amazing how a bit of slow-motion and the right rock song can make anything look totally badass, although I'll admit that MMPR has more than its share of cool footage if only because the Japanese are still making the Go Ranger series that MMPR is/was based on, with today's special effects. Only thing that today's special effects can't improve on? Amy Jo Johnson's butt circa 1995. She was the only reason I survived taking my little brother to the actual MMPR movie.

DUDE. Almost all the past 7 seasons since the show jumped to ABC have been absolutely awesome. there was even one season where they finally played tribute to the Japanese show by basically just airing a Japanese episode, dubbing it badly and having the current rangers do commentary on how weird it was.
I think the show is finally over in the states but I here the contract got figured out and after they show a season of remastered Mighty Morphin episodes the series will continue.

Yeah, RPM just ended. This Saturday, it's Mighty Morphin again. I too hope that they'll go back to new episodes before long.

Huh, several generations of rangers together there, seemingly led by an old school black ranger (under a different actor)? Interesting...

LBD "Nytetrayn" replied to CTrees:
He was the second Black Ranger, Adam, who is played by Johnny Yong Bosch, who some might recognize as voicing a few popular anime characters.
The footage came from the 15th anniversary episode "Once a Ranger." Meanwhile, the Tommy footage came from Dino Thunder's "Fighting Spirit," where Tommy had to face his past three Ranger incarnations.

The episodes those clips are from look like a love-letter to the entire past series, if the wikipedia summary is accurate. Kinda makes me wish I knew who any of those people other than said black ranger are.

LBD "Nytetrayn" replied to Carmine:
They're from the "Disney" era, after they bought up Saban. Tori is the Blue Wind Ranger from Ninja Storm, Kira is the Yellow Dino Thunder Ranger, Bridge is the Red S.P.D. Ranger (with a bit of a story behind that), Xander is the Green Mystic Force Ranger, and of course Adam is the Black Mighty Morphin Power Ranger.
There's an article for the ep on Wikipedia, too: Once a Ranger. Might also be interested in "Forever Red," the tenth anniversary special featuring ten Red Rangers uniting to stop the Machine Empire from reviving Lord Zedd's zord, Serpentera.

Myself, I'm currently addicted to Samurai Sentai Shinkenger, the current Japanese PR series. It's never coming here due to the above-mentioned contract cancellation and the gratuitous (though awesome) use of kanji in the show being impossible to translate for American kids.
It's too bad, really, because the show kicks ass. ShinkenRed has a humongous sword that puts Cloud's to shame... and that's only part of what makes it so cool.
One of the other significant parts is the Golden Lobster Zord. No, I'm not making that up. It is awesome.

Very cool...the only thing missing is the shell armor from the first movie (which kept breaking apart during filming).

Yes, Amy Jo Johnson was awesome. Butt and all. I'm still pissed the way they flittered away all the Tommy/Kim romance drama...it was probably the best ranger romance they did.

As cool as this is, we all know they could never make a movie that lived up to its potential.

Can you at least sort of understand what you're talking about before you do so? It's called Super Sentai which is one such series under the tokusatsu umbrella. "Goranger" was the very first of these series which happened over 30 years ago. "Power Rangers" never used footage from that series. It used it starting with "Zyuranger" and every susequent season since then through "Go-onger."

If someone else didn't say it, I probably would have eventually. Thanks for the assist. :)

Rob,
Are you really going to ignore that this weekend the PR Show ended... seemingly for good ?

LBD "Nytetrayn" replied to Chris Sanders:
I doubt he even remembered, or knew. I'm actually sort of surprised he posted this; I thought Rob was anti-Ranger.

Slowdown makes anything better.
Case in point: 300. If Slowdown can make that piece of shit appear to be good enough to trick people into thinking that it was a good movie, it can do wonders for ANYTHING.
