• Referring to Moishe's comment, a few corrections: First of all, Nimoy DID get the hand sign from the hand position used with both hands simultaneously. And the hand position DOES represent the letter shin. But it doesn't stand for the word "sh'ma", meaning "hear (ye)" or "listen", which opens the Sh'ma/V'ahavta passage (Hear, O Israel, the Lord is your God, the Lord alone. You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your might....etc.) The letter shin, both on the mezuzah (doorpost fixture containing the above-referenced prayer) and in hand gesture, stands for the word Shaddai, meaning Almighty, one of the dozens of names for God used in Judaism. And on the dreidel (s'vivon), the letter shin stands for the word "sham", spelled shin/mem, no hay (which would transliterate to H) on the end, and THAT word means "there", as in NOT here. In Israel the dreidels are different. They use a pay (for the word "po", meaning "here") instead of a hay. Our English alphabet derives from the Greek, but the Greek derives from the Hebrew—so there will be correlations that are alephbetic rather than linguistic sometimes. However, Greek and English need to use symbols to represent consonants in order to comprehend written language, while Hebrew and other mideastern languages only need the consonants. And since the meaning of every word is inherent in its consonant root, changing any consonant (of the root) changes the actual word, while vowel changes are insignificant.

Also, the end thing IS the Enterprise, with a planet and a bunch of stuff that's supposed to be space or Nebulae or something, and I'm sure McCoy has been to many High Holiday functions over at Kirk and Spock's respective places. Uhura on the other hand would rather be testifying for space Jesus.
