• Doesn't matter. They could have done a thousand other things to get him off the show than have the damn smoke monster just come and kill him for no reason. He could have died heroically saving people or been betrayed by someone who fears/resented his strength, he could have disappeared and then been brought back in the future in smaller parts the actor would have bene okay with, etc. Or he could have been a killer cyborg form the future sent back to kill Claire.

• You know the actor requested to be killed off because he didn't like having to live so far away from his home in London, right?

• I like Lost but they really fucked up with Mr. Eko. He was the ONE character that was interesting for about 4 months of that show because he was strong and took no shit from anyone. Others invaded his camp, tried to steal sone folks and he just clubbed two of them to death with his prayer mace. Everyone else was worried about gettnig off the island, scared of polar bears, worried about starving - not Eko. It's like the writers didn't know how to handle a strong, self-assured character. They write the damn show and even they couldn't fuck with the guy. So the smoke monster (still unexplained and won't be in the final season) just comes out and kills him for no fucking good reason other than the writers couldn't handle the character anymore. Very good show but I'll always remember how they created an awesome character and then pointlessly killed him because he was just barrelling through the story like an alpha predator - no natural enemies, all attention gravitating toward him, immune to petty shit like who Kate is into this week, just on and on. R.I.P. Mr. Eko. The show got good again but it would have been way better if he had stuck around.
