• Samus looking out a window
• Samus talking wistfully to herself about her past in non-specific terms
• Samus standing with a frown and a Bluetooth ear piece
• Some city clearly in no trouble whatsoever
• Samus looking even harder out a window
It does not contain:
• Samus shooting
• Samus moving
• Metroids
• Action
• Anything remotely resembling fun
Although I do appreciate that "NOT GAMEPLAY FOOTAGE" warning. I would have hated to think I could have played Samus looking out windows myself, only to find out whenever Metroid: Other M comes out the computer does that part automatically. Imagine the disappointment.

My understanding is that it will be the opposite of this. Lots of gameplay with little bits of story. My fear, although it wont stop me from purchasing the game, is that the story will be asinine. What if this has cliched anime plot all over it? ugh.

Waah waah waah I'm a whiny baby

To be more precise, english voice acting in these games sucks, the japanese voice overs are generally a lot better, which is why I didn't buy star ocean on 360 at first (tried it at a friends, loved the gameplay but could not stand the voices), but when I heard that the international version was going to have an option for japanese VO, I went out and bought it pretty much as soon as it came out.
-
Oh, one other thing. Here's what I've seen that WILL be in the game but not in this trailer. • Samus naked in her "Crystal Flash" pose • Samus in her power suit being carried up in the air by the Metroid Hatchling (Referred to here as 'the baby') • The Mother Brain in her body form going batsh** crazy while smashing and blasting everything around her • Samus charging her Power Beam and firing it at the Mother Brain • The destruction of the planet Zebes! • Big monsters flying out of lava at you • Speed Boosting through WALLS OF ICE! Ya, this game is so going to suck.

There sure is a lot of negative ramblings going on here. I've been a Metroid fan for over 16 years. I've played all the games, spinoffs and a lot of homages. The only Metroid game I haven't played is Metroid 2. So what do I think of this? I'm excited. Sure it's different, and why not? This is just one out of many videos of Other M that are out there. I highly doubt this one video represents the best at what this game has to offer. Look deeper.

More like "missed the bus entirely" or "Might as well burn it!" I love Metroid. It always held something that most games didn't. After all the stunning work that Retro games did, I am sickened at seeing the franchise sold out into this kind of generic-feeling japanese crap. Not to say that I hold disdain for Asian gaming, it's the whole presentation. The humans look weird and this ENTIRE TRAILER is nothing but mopey poses, with the most idiotic looking thumbs down I've seen this week in a Japanese game. It's the lack of humanity that Japanese games really enjoy, whereas Mass Effect has interaction that feels like a conversation, Mertroid: OM and its ilk make every utter word feel like some stilted, hideous puppet show. And the dialogue... oh god... Star Ocean 4 was like this too. Ugh. I don't even care how it plays if the presentation is this stupid. Nintendo, you're fired.
-
i just daydreamingly looked out a window earlier today, that must make me cliched and generic as well
-
At this point, I try to never watch trailer anymore. They always lie and they always spoil.
-
Hey look, it's Samus (or not) on Coruscant!
-
however the game plays, it's definitely bad marketing.
-
Win.
-
I think it's supposed to be Samus when she was younger and a part of the Galactic Federation Army, something that becomes a plot point in this one.
-
Yeah, but she didn't have an actual voice until Metroid Prime 3
-
I didnt know M Bison was in the game Maybe Hes the other M!
-
Just in case you don't believe me: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u7y-CS4R_EE&feature=related
-
Oh, trust me, you don't. There already is one, it was released in Japan 2007. Not very good.
-
LOL haha, no shit right? well it is being made by team ninja so just be happy that she actually has a shirt on. thats what actually suprised me.
-
Yes, yes it was dumb. It was a toss-up as to whether to go with the the Divinyls or that song from Titanic. But the important thing is I managed to waste time at work.
-
Yeah, now that you mention it, that sounds about right. Her look, the city, the overall tone and visual style; All of it is very Appleseed like. Also, fuck you. Now I want an Appleseed game.
-
Okay, that was really stupid, but I'll be damned if the timing didn't sync almost 100%.
-
"I would have hated to think I could have played Samus looking out windows myself" For some reason, as soon as I read this I had a vision of an entire metroid game done in the style of Heavy Rain. As for the video, I'm not sure what to think to be honest, on the one hand it looks like it could be quite a solid base for a good storyline, whereas on the other hand it didn't seem to represent the small amount of knowledge I have of metroid in any way whatsoever. Perhaps it's time to do some research! (i.e. playing as many metroid games as I can get my hands on)
-
Are we sure this isn't some rejected footage from some Final Fantasy or other J-RPG game? How the fiddly winks was that Metroid?!
-
Apparently you haven't seen the gameplay trailers or screenshots. The game looks amazing
-
I can't share your pessimism on this one, Rob, as I'm giving a lot more weight to the people at IGN than you. Seeing as how those folks have actually played the game, their positive impressions mean a whole lot more. Personally, I think (not judging by this trailer) that Other M will be a fun game but not nearly as good as Super Metroid, the same as every other decent Metroid game released since 1994.
-
That video could be for ANY game, Samus-Barbie had it right in the first flashback sequence: "THUMBS DOWN SIR!"
-
Was she mourning about being raped as a child?
-
Yeah, mostly, but some article over on GoNintendo mentioned moving on a 2D plain and switching to 3D at certain points. Not sure what it's about.
-
"Dammit Samus, you're outta bounds! Turn in your suit." *Samus throws power ball and badge on the ground*
-
Jeez, a little bit of possible character development for Samus, and everybody cries foul.
-
I would've thought the other M stood for mammary, considering how many bra sizes Samus shot up.
-
Based on the first trailer, I don't think this game stars Samus at all. The first trailer showed both this short haired "Samus" who acts nothing like the Samus we know and the traditional Long Haired Samus. If you watch the debut trailer you see a computer with the words "living body arms development" and then Samus see's herself. Cloning.
-
I know this trailer doesn't really say/show much, but check out the hands-on demo review: http://wii.ign.com/articles/107/1071925p1.html It sounds pretty damn awesome- I might just finally buy a Wii for this, Super Mario Galaxy (1 & 2), and Tatsunoko vs Capcom.
-
oh shit, I think this is canonising the manga story. i mean it's just screaming that it'll harken back to ye olden days of samus' life, and that dude who calls samus 'lady' and all that mentioned in fusion is in the manga outfit. This is either very bad, or kinda promising, dependant on... well ability to ignore the plot and wistful pretentious samus voice
-
My fear is that it will be a great deal of cinematics with a little bit of gameplay thrown in every once in a while, and I really don't consider that to be a good thing at all. Tell a story, fine, but you don't have to stop the entire freaking game to do it.
-
Uhm, actually it's third person to first person, but it's all in 3D.
-
I don't know. It seems more like "Appleseed: The Game" than a Metroid game.
-
I sense a Metal Gear Solid 2 Movie. The game will start with a Samus suited person removed the helmet to be this chick, then the radio will come in and reveal that it is NOT SAMUS AFTER ALL. Maybe this is going to be the origin of Mother Brain. Like when she was a chick with short hair and not a huge blobbery brain. PS, in all seriousness, I'm actually finding this video interesting and look forward to future developments.
-
Hmmm - there's something not quite right about this video... It's missing something... Ah Ha! Got it! http://bit.ly/cKGXzo
-
I hope to god that you're right. It's a stupid fanboy complaint on my part, but I will not accept a short-haired Samus.
-
You've also been out of the "How to use the internet" loop, apparently.
-
Well. That was a whole bunch of nothing.
-
Nothing about that video makes me even remotely interested in playing this game. But then there was little chance I would have bothered playing it anyway. The moment Metroid met polygons, the franchise was dead to me.
-
From what I've read from the people making this game, the girl with the short hair in this trailer is NOT Samus.
-
You can use a 2D camera in Other M, apparently. From what I've read, you can switch from 2D and 3D, sort of like Super Paper Mario, but better.
-
You kidding? She's been talking for a while now. Hell, in Metroid Fusion, she had walls and walls of text monologue.
-
I've been out of the videogame loop for a while, so can someone tell me when FireKraken started posting? Did he always post and I just never noticed? Last I remember, he was less vocal than Samus.
-
I just want a new side scrolling Metroid, see New Super Mario Bros Wii
-
I've been out of the videogame loop for a while, so can someone tell me when Samus started speaking? Did she always speak and I just never noticed? Last I remember, she was less vocal than Link.
-
I like the idea of adding a bit more story to Metroid within the games. (The manga was a bit of fun) But this scarily looks like the 'Other M' might be 'maturing' or 'moving on'.
