Between the horrible TF3 movie news and FFF, it's been a rough day for TR readers (and writers, for that matter). So thank goodness yet another great Transformers: War for Cybertron game video has come out to dull the pain before we head out to the weekend.
Warning: The video has some spoilers in the sense that it mentions some of the events that will happen during the course of the game, so if you don't want to know anything that's happening in WfC, you probably shouldn't watch it. However, I assure you they all sound pretty fucking awesome and make me want the game even more, which I didn't think was possible.

I have to admit I agree with you on some points. With such a varied and wide history for this intellectual property, finding information that is truly 'untouched' is growing more and more difficult. The only true option for being new at this point is to make the events cannon with the G1 storyline. Doing so would require the people responsible for the property (which they have), and to comb through the material to make it work with most, if not all references. This is the tricky part, as many continuity errors exist within the show itself. I personally love what IDW did with the property. Granted I have not read all (or even much) of their work, but I do have some. The series showing Megatron's rise from a simple worker to the founder and leader of Decepticons was wonderful, and one of my favorite reads. A game based on that would be truly wonderful.

I love how every new putz who comes along and designs some video game or animated series thinks that they are the "first" to tackle something in the Transformers Universe. The head designer guy in this video implies that we're getting a look at the beginning of the Autobot/Decepticon war in this game as though we've never had the chance to see that before. I suggest he go back and read some of the excellent UK Transformers comics by Simon Furman in the 1980s, which covered the early days of the war, or his Dreamwave version titled "The War Within." There was also a good IDW mini called "Megatron Origin." Of course, we all know that in the TF Universe there is no single, official version of events, since the same plots have been retold countless times. And I'm not saying that there's not room for another interpretation. But I hate when these young writers and designers act like their concepts are original when they are not. It shows total contempt for the creators who came before them, who laid the foundations of the fandom that probably led to them being the enthusiasts that they are.

That is a shame that there is so little in the way of rational criticism. I thought nerds might spend more time improving their reasoning skills since they are so unsuccessful at other pursuits such as getting laid.

Haven't you learned by now? You can't ask for rational criticism on anything on this site. Everything's either "OMG FAIL FOREVER" or "OMG EPIC WIN." One extreme or the other; standing in the middle ground is asking to be flamed by both sides. Like War Machine said, "it's the kill box."

An interesting assumption, since nowhere did I defend the Bay or his films... I merely asked that nerd-rage not devolve into personal attacks on, at best, peripherally-related people. I couldn't care less if people want to rip Bay to shreds over the movies (if you'll notice, I didn't respond to Saustin's comment because, god damn who *wouldn't* want to just watch someone play this game for an hour and a half?). Bay is the director, so ultimately, he's responsible this.

I'm glad everyone's so excited over this, and I'm sure Rob needs all the job he can get what with FFF and other monstrosities, but what are you people gonna do if the game sucks? I'm not saying it will, but I fear for you guys. The higher you get the farther you'll fall, and I'm not all that good at being moral support.

Jeez, can we *please* not extend the bitching about Bay's TF films to every fucking person under the sun? Instead of lambasting the poor guy for not having an assertive enough personality (great job discerning that from an incredibly short and likely cut-up interview, by the way), perhaps you could, I dunno, realize that he isn't the end-all/be-all person. Bay shits more money than that guy will likely ever see, so maybe, *just maybe*, he doesn't have the final say on the films. For all we know, this guy could be responsible for the films not being worse; maybe he's the one that convinced the executives to not make Optimus gay just to appeal to the broadest spectrum of markets possible. The Bay movies had their faults, and I'm excited about the War for Cybertron video game, but god damn, try not to let your hard-on for whining get in the way of being a decent human being for ten seconds. Just because you didn't like two movies doesn't mean everyone should be a target for your nerd-rage. Rant done.

So this guy is the design honcho for the "transformers universe"? Working on a video game he is able to work with fellow stalwarts of the franchise and this allows WFC to look awesome. As for the movie franchise if this is the guy advocating on behalf of the Transformers fans he is doing a terrible job. I would say a more assertive personality would be needed to combat executives and the Bay. Could someone please just get it over with and put Bay out of his own self indulgent misery so that the franchise could sit for a bit and then be rebooted? Anyone?

Man, do I agree!! What the crap is the point of giving us 90 min of explosions left and right with a bunch of barely discernible talking scrapheaps? This game pretty much has everything I wanted to know about them (origins) and presents it in an exciting, cool and ,most importantly, logical story. Gah, I'm off to go play Reach and slowly wait for that franchise to crumble.
