• Tron: Legacy 3-D
• Tron: Legacy on Blu-ray
• Tron: Legacy on DVD
• Tron: Legacy on digital copy
• Tron, the original one
Now, this might seem obvious, but bear with me. That breaks down into:
• Tron: Legacy
• Tron: Legacy
• Tron: Legacy
• Tron: Legacy
• Tron, the original one
THAT'S FUCKING RIDICULOUS. Who needs four copies of Tron: Legacy? Not me, and I spent the entire movie touching myself. Look, if you have a 3-D TV, you're gonna watch the 3-D version -- you ain't popping in the DVD version, ever. Why would you? I guess a Digital Copy kind of makes sense, in case you go on a trip with an iPad or something, but if you buy this thing, you're still getting two completely useless versions of Tron: Legacy. Bleh. lol - haters will be haters.
-
Thats 5 more discs than I have disc drives (of any type)!
-
I would be happy with the original on blu-ray but I have not seen it on Amazon or anywhere else.
-
Rob -- you are right on the money. It's an obscene example of crass marketing. The packaging looks rubbish, and I don't own -- NOR WILL I EVER OWN -- a 3D TV. Bleh. That said, I ordered mine the minute it popped up on Amazon.
-
I like it as long as they're not charging more than what the Blu-Ray and DVD cost separately. I have no Blu-Ray player yet. And don't intend to get one until they make a multi-disk version that's not one of the absurdly huge jukebox types. So I can get the DVD I use now and the Blu-Ray disk for later. Last time I did that was for the 25th anniversay Goonies box set. Now granted the Tron Legacy set there is a tad absurd.
-
Aha! The all-important inclusion: a release date! April 5 for this, and I hope the standard DVD is out on the same day.
-
Y'know, you can keep both, right? Blu-Ray players still play DVDs, you don't need to convert your collection.
-
I like the DVD packed in if I want to watch it on a TV without Blu ray on it. And the physical media itself barely costs anything anyway.
-
yeah, sure Rob. you probably used those extra copies as masturbatory aid anyway. we're not telling, tho. don't worry.
-
the five disc special edition is over kill for no one needs that many versions of tron Legacy when one for the dvd player the person has will do.over kill. for only the ones who like having every version is going to shell out for that one.

The last Disney DVD i bought hat tiny little finger prints all over it. I breathed on it, and a message appeared. Its said "PLEASE HELP ME, I DON'T WANT TO WORK IN THIS FACTORY ANYMORE. IM ONLY 5 YEARS OLD AND I WORK 18 HOURS A DAY. THEY MAKE US WATCH LILO AND STITCH WHILE WE WORK. MAKE IT STOP. NO MORE RANDY NEWMAN." I mean come on Disney, how about some quality control. Put some gloves on your workers or something.
-
The original reason, advertised by disney, was blue ray players weren't in a portable form. So you could use the bluray at home and the DVD for your car DVD player.
-
i kept getting expired digital copies, and couldn't figure out how to get the copy i paid for off the disc. then i found some useful instructions of how to do it. In google just type the name of the movie on your disc followed by torrent. This way works very well and its not crippled by DRM. It works so well that you don't even need to buy the digital copy to get one. Thanks Disney. I used to buy my digital copies but yo have shown me the light.
-
They are doing this for Tangled which I will get. Just depends how much these sets will be. I felt $35 was ridiculous for Toy Story 3, so Tangled will probably be $40.
-
Welcome to today's Disney. Personally I like that they do this. I can't afford a Blu-Ray player yet so for now it's cheaper for me to buy the combo sets, especially since Disney always puts out a $10 off coupon with their new releases. What I do hate is what a waste it is to make a disk for Digital Copies. Especially since they expire. I wish there was some way to recycle them a get some money back...
-
I could be wrong, but maybe they're doing the multi-copy overload so EVERYBODY can get the special edition packaging? Not just people who can watch it in 3D, or Blu-ray. This way they can get everyone to buy it. They're just trying to increase their potential customer-base with this. Oh, and it gives 'em an excuse to hike the price a bit more because of all the extra discs. I remember being annoyed back when Batman Begins came out and the only way to get the Batpod was to get the blu-ray, which at the time I did not have. Grrr.
-
I'm sure you'll find a use for the other two. maybe put together your own Tron fleshlight?
-
This is Disney. They can do whatever they want. Besides, they issue $5, $7 and $10 coupons all the damn time for these sets. Amazon even has a digital $5 off coupon. It's not like you're going to be paying more if you buy it the first week it comes out...

Every time I have tried to watch a Disney dvd in the last few years it hasn't worked. This is because i only have a computer and they updated the encryption so they don't work. in order for my movies that i bought to play, i had to use anydvd to remove the protection. then a strange thing happened, i realized that i could use this software to backup the movie too. i though hey, other people must be having the same problem i am and they need help. Now i rent, not buy, Disney movies. I make copies for myself, my friends, my family, my coworkers, my mailman, the girl that works at the gas station, all the old people at the old folks home, the fire department. i even mail discs to random addresses in the phone book with instructions on how to make copies for their firemen, old people, etc. I buy crates of blank dvds. i have a 100 disk burner. i have a little Asian kids working in my basement. Thanks Disney. I used to just buy my movies like a fucking idiot, but you have shown me a new way to acquire and share movies.
-
I don't mind the whole split dvd bluray because this way if some who has a dvd and eventually gets a blu ray player than they don't go out already and buy it again. I understand the logic until blu ray becomes the prominent player and completely over taking dvd you will have these.
-
Has everyone actually forgot that, like _every_ other Disney movie, they'll be releasing an EXTENDED (they'll call it Gold; Diamond; Director; Extended; Platnium; etc) with bonus features (usually "just discovered") not available anywhere else? On top of it, if they really want to peeve people off, they'll have an advertisement only available in this $100 piece of garbage. I'll pass and wait for the »Extended Diamond Director's Cut Six Month Anniversary« version of the movie.
-
My ideal Ultimate Tron Collections includes: 1 blu-ray Tron: Legacy 1 blu-ray Tron 1 blu-ray of non-shitty behind the scenes stuff & deleted scenes 1 coffee table booklet of concept art and artsy screen shots.
-
The dvd makes sense. You can play it in an old computer, on a boat, in a car, in a dvd player(home or portable), and in a videogame console. You can quickly and easily make copies for all you family, and friends. you can back it up encase you scratch it. The backup media only costs 10 cents. You can add it to your HTPC library. You can easily convert it to an avi for playback on almost any device. The digital copy is the lamest piece of DRM crap ever made. It only works on an ipod(lame), or with WMP(Lame). I suppose you could convert the bluray if you are a super nerd with programming abilities. oh wait this is topless robot. Multiple copies would be awesome if they weren't so lame. throw in the soundtrack too, dvd, mp3, flac. Throw in a disc with screen shots too. Give me a piece of jeff bridges hair, or that hot girl. maybe i can clone her some day. for now i can just smell it. oh shit, i crossed the line.
-
I personally like having the DVD copy, for only one reason, I can sell it to my mom. When we get new movies my mom doesn't always want to pay full price but still wants to see the movie. So she pitches in for the movie and I giver her the DVD. I often do the same thing with the digital copy and sell it to one of my family members because I never use it. However why the heck do they have the original Tron in there? That's pushing it. There's no point in me buying it now because I already OWN that movie on DVD.
-
I'm completely the opposite. I think it's great. In addition to Blu-Ray people having a DVD copy if they go somewhere with no Blu-Ray, unlikely, I know, but that's the option, this also works for people who own DVD players, but are thinking about getting a Blu-Ray player soon. Why buy a DVD copy now, and then a Blu-Ray copy in six months? Buy it all in one package. I doubt I'll ever get a 3D tv, but if I'm wrong, and that shit does suddenly get really popular, when I eventually do get a 3D tv, I'll already have a 3D copy. Also, it's not really that big a deal. Every movie Disney's put out for the last, like, 2 years has had this combo pack option. Worst case, give the DVD to one of your friends who doesn't have a Blu-Ray player. 2 movies for the price of one. Well, more like 2 movies for the price of 1.75. But cool disc case, right?
-
Dear Disney, CSS is cracked. The DVD is the only digital copy we need. A way less crippled digital copy than the crap on that disc labeled "Digital Copy". Someday, probably someday soon, the Blu Ray will be all we need, but in the meantime thanks for including the DVD so I can rip it to whatever I need but you can really skip the other digital copy. Thanks, A Customer
-
Nothing better to beat the heat then an ice cold can of TRON Classic.
-
Because you're not getting the extra discs for free - it's a way of ensuring that the prices stay high on Blu-Rays instead of doing what they should have done all along and price them at the same amount as the DVDs. If there wasn't a price distinction, it'd obviously be less of an issue.
-
It's meant to convert losers like me who haven't upgraded to blu-ray yet (and I have good reason with literally hundreds of DVDs). Give it another 1-2 years when DVD players are slowly phased out of production and we're all watchin' blu-ray.
-
I'm with you man, I pre-ordered mine this morning when I got the email.
-
You, could...umm...watch it on four different screens...Because ONE IS NOT ENOUGH. Note, I still haven't seen Tron: Legacy, what can I say I barely makes trips to the theatre.
-
Is it wrong I want to get it anyway because of the packaging?
-
It actually refers to the original as TRON: Classic...
-
I would use the Blu/DVD/Digital copies, but have no use for the 3D one...I suppose at least one copy will always be left behind.
-
Am I the only one whose unadulteratedly excited about this set? All complaints have registered with me, but somehow this thing's existence is still so exciting I can't resist. WANT.
-
The only reason they're throwing the four different types of DVDs together is so they don't have to release four different box sets. Plus, they can charge more and they know that all the geeks out there (like all of us) will buy it anyway.
-
plus, the company doesn't pay for additional packaging selling different copies of the same movie, while charging customers more for the one movie they're trying to buy.
-
Disney's got your....um back; behold the 5 disk Manchild edition with comes with Tron themed Kleenexes and KY.
-
Amazon says it's blu-ray as well. http://www.amazon.com/Tron-Limited-Five-Disc-Blu-ray-Original/dp/B004KZPABK
-
I'm glad the packaging folks don't just listen to you. I agree with the first reply and think that it's fantastic that they do this. I have a portable DVD player and can use the movie whle I travel... I also have an iPad and the digital copy saves me the time from ripping the DVD. I'm used to people complaining when they get too little... hard to feel sympathy for the consumer who gets too much.
-
Aside from the 3D version, for which I have no 3D TV, I love the blu-ray/DVD/digital combo packs. I only have a blu-ray player in one room, so if I want to watch it anywhere else, I need a DVD. Also, many of my friends only have a DVD player, so if they want to borrow it or if we want to watch it at their house, a blu-ray isn't going to work. And the digital copy works great for my ipad on trips and such. I don't really want to buy a separate digital copy for $20.
-
Fair enough - I recognise that there are some limited applications (like I said, I hated the digital copy until I got an iPad and now I love the idea). But it seems like it's designed more to save the WalMarts and Best Buys of the world space by selling everything in one package rather than the more efficient method of just letting anyone buy what the hell they want.
-
I'm split on that, it is annoying but for some movies when I am on a trip I can just watch it in the DVD player in my car, or what happens most of the time my kid can watch a movie while I drive and the Blue Ray when we are at home
-
Disney does it so kids can watch the DVD in the car.
-
Digital copy? Facilitating illegal distribution, but that's how Tron would have wanted it. Is Tron the Original DVD or Blu-ray? Right now the best copy of it is a HDTV recording.
-
I actually like the DVD/bluray/digital combos, for the most part. Gives me the option to watch it on any of my devices. However, I couldn't give two shits about 3d and already own the original trim. Plus, as cool as custom packaging looks, that wears off the moment I need to put something on a shelf. And $100 is just plain stupid for any movie.
-
I hate this stupid "let's throw in the DVD with the Blu-Ray copy" thing. It makes no sense! I bought a Blu-Ray player, I obviously don't need the DVD. If I just have a DVD player, why wouldn't I just buy the DVD version? Aaargh. At least now I can make use of the digital copy of stuff like this, reducing my number of wasted discs per box to one.
