There's a new redband trailer for Hobo with a Shotgun, and it's ready to welcome you to Fuck Town! Population: 2. (Specifically, one hobo, one shotgun.)
• Leonard Nimoy will voice Optimus Prime's brother Sentinel Prime in Transformers 3: Dark of the Moon. Since 1) It's Nimoy and 2) Nimoy already has Transformers voicing cred, I was a little happy, but then I realized Sentinel's going to say "Fo' shizzle" or something equally awful at some point, and then I got sad. Dark waters, my friends.
• The first six minutes of Sucker Punch are now available to watch legally on the infonetmentsupernetway, in a desperate attempt to get people to watch the whole movie in theaters. Feel free to check it out here, if you're so inclined.

I still don't get why people hate sucker punch so much. Sure, it's kinda weird, and the ending makes little sense, but it has stunning graphics, good music and a pretty nice overall story. It's not so much that I don't understand that people don't like it. It's the sheer amount of hate it gets. You'd think the people who didn't like the story would at least say "hey, we saw robo-samurai, steampunk german zombies and dragons versus WWI bomber.", but apparently not even that is the case. So, as a person who actually liked the movie, my question is; Why isn't this movie simply bad or disappointing, but apparently one of the worst movies of all time?

Ugh Sucker Punch. I suppose the minutes taken out to GET the PG-13 rating were the good parts.. Well, at least we went in expecting exactly what we got, a fast paced chicks with boomsticks flick. Amazingly, "Paul" was rated R, yet I would feel WAY more comfortable letting teens watch it. It had appropriate and funny swears, a rather non-sexual groping, and - GASP! - marijuweena use! Oh NOES! All the teens I know would have thought it was hilarious, and would not have minded all the adult silliness. Sucker Punch was just over the top. Some scenes were uncomfortable, some were shot in Shakey-Vision and were nearly unviewable, and the whole movie was an editing mess. Yes, we'll watch it on dvd when our friend buys it, but.... Meh.
-
I think I'm going to continue to not see it and somehow convince myself that it was as awesome as the trailers made it look. I think I'd be happier living in that universe than one where a movie with a dragon chasing a biplane is not immediately the best film of all time.
-
I personally thought Sucker Punch was merely okay. It's certainly not the worst movie I've ever seen, and it's not even the worst Zack Snyder movie (300). It's visually stunning, but stupidly repetitive. If it was an actual video game, instead of a movie pretending to be a video game, I'm sure it would be hailed as the best game ever made. That said, one thing Sucker Punch does not ever need - never ever in a million years - is to be longer. If anything, trim that thing down by half an hour.
-
Then someone made a rap from that, and animated real toy transformers in a psychedelic video to go with... ...wait. I'm thinking of another toyline. Never mind.
-
I thought that Speed Racer was the best movie of 2008 (Better even than The Dark Knight. What?). However, I didn't much care for Sucker Punch. I can only assume you didn't see it yet, so I won't delve into Spoilertown, but stuff happens just because. In particular, there's no intrinsic reasoning for the sudden shift in locale. That's all I'll say.

dark waters = suit up suit up suit up!!!!

This is hands down, for me, the best comment on this entire page. Personally looking forward to Sucker Punch. It'll be like Ultraviolet all over again.
-
Nimoy playing Galvatron and Prime's daddy/buddy or whatever? Strange. He's got a fantastic voice though. It's what was really missing from Quinto Spock. Also odd: It's entirely possible that Nimoy will join Orson Welles in voicing a Transformer for their final acting gig if he's really retired. Was Cars Paul Newman's final role? Talking cars are career enders.

It's amazing to me that there are people that actually thought Sucker Punch was in any way decent. The action sequences that so many folks point to to justify this movie's existence didn't work at all for me, for multiple reasons: first, the imagery was derivative of other, better movies. Second, with no character development there was zero emotional context to any of the action, which meant that I didn't give a shit when the girls were thrust into danger. Third, there was such a glut of action and geektastic imagery that I began having flashbacks to Transformers 2, and I hated that fucking movie. The scenes in between the action were dull as dirt and made very little sense. There really wasn't anything I liked about this movie. Strike that; I liked some of the visuals. Unfortunately, there was entirely too much imagery in each frame to successfully process it all.

Put me down as one of the people who liked Sucker Punch and is mildly amused at the almost violent dislike people have towards the movie. I've even noticed a tendency (not here because we know everyone on at Topless Robot is too mature for that sort of thing) to disparage the intelligence of anyone who says they do like Sucker Punch. I've also heard it compared to Southland Tales and The 5th Element as a directors personal project without much regard for the audience. I liked both those movies too and they have built strong cult followings so we will see what happens.
-
Rob, why oh why did you fall for that Transformers 3 news? It's clearly an April Fools prank by TFW2005. It's already April 1st in some parts of the world. Also, I question where you got the information that Sentinel Prime is Optimus's brother.
-
Well I haven't really been looking for peoples comments on the movie so that probably doesn't help. I know reviews are awful but for the most part every comment Ive seen has been positive. And I get thrashed if I say otherwise haha. Oh well.
-
I see what you did there...
-
In Hollywood voice acting is what you do for quick easy money when you're retired. Case in point: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Gough#Later_roles
-
I don't know if hobo with a shotgun is gonna be any good, but to have Rutger Hauer, be said "hobo" with said "shotgun", well that's almost genius...He's so much the perfect pick he isn't even the perfect pick...
-
In regards to Nimoy retiring, you probably thought "but Vulcans don't lie". He exagerrated. (Nimoy has said "I AM SPOCK", which makes him a Vulcan, so don't go saying Spock isn't Nimoy and Nimoy isn't Spock. I mean we all know Shatner IS Kirk. No one else could be Kirk. The very notion of someone else playing James T. Kirk is hateful to Americans.)
-
Gee, am I the only one here to have seen Hobo? Must be few Canadians around. The story's a bit weak, buy Rutger was having fun, the musics great and it's perhaps gorier to me than Braindead. And oh yeah, a kids' cartoon theme is played in the credits, after a bloody climax. Which cartoon? You'll have to see to find out. 7/10
-
Dear God, Nimoy bothers to come out of retirement, and he does it for Bayformers 3? WHHYYY? I swear, the only dignity he'll find in that role is if he says "This is no Transformers movie, THIS IS BAD COMEDY!", before blasting away Shia The Beef and the other contemptible human meat bags. I would pay money to see that.
-
I haven't seen Sucker Punch, I'll wait for it to hit the vending kiosks. However, all the horrible criticism is funny to me because basically their complaints boil down to it is all style no story. Did anybody watch the commercials and think it was going to be anything else? The movie doesn't even try to fool you, it's very up front about it being an action happy, hot girls with guns and swords, fantasy flick. I'm looking forward to renting it, but mostly because Carla Gugino is in it. I don't know what it is exactly about her, but I think she is gorgeous, she does it for me.

Suit ups!
-
Rutger Hauer just gets more awesome with age. All those iconic 80s action heroes got old and you feel kinda sorry for them when they make an appearance on the big screen (Arnold, whats this Governator nonsense, you should have quit while you were ahead...), but heres Roy Batty still kickin' ass 29 years later. I still haven't seen Sucker Punch, but if there was some hypothetical person who thought Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow and Speed Racer were two of the best movies in recent memory, would they like it?
-
nice
-
Suit up, friends. There's gotta be some meds for that...
-
I thought Nimoy said he was retiring.
-
That's because the target audience has shot their load and are now thinking more clearly.
-
My only complaint about Sucker Punch was the ending was kind of lame. Overall though I liked the movie. I think, however, that many people saying it sucks went into it with the same mindset as people who say Watchmen sucks. They saw the previews and were drawn in by the action shown there. And of course expected a non-stop action movie. Then they saw Watchmen/Sucker Punch and while there is a bit of action in both, and done pretty damn well if you ask me, both those movies were filled with more talking than action. And thus the people feel like they got cheated or something. I personally warned people I went to see it with. I was like if you didn't like Watchmen, you're not going to like this, I guarantee it. If you bought into the hype, you will be sorely disappointed.
-
I stand by the reason most people hated it, is that it didn't have a cinimax after dark, all girls prison scene.
-
Seriously? What part of the internet have you been hanging out in? I'm utterly shocked when I actually read comments from people that enjoy the movie simply because it's a sea of unrelenting criticism out there.
-
I actually would pay money to hear Nimoy say that
-
He just retired from movies that aren't wretched forgeries of once glorious franchises before Michael Bay and J.J. Abrams got their grubby little mitts on them.
-
I really enjoyed Suckerpunch. From a production standpoint it was an incredibly well crafted film. From a narrative standpoint it...faltered. I really don't understand all the hate it's getting, there have been much worse films in the last few years that didn't get nearly as much of a beating as this one. I wonder how many people will change their minds after watching Snyders cut on DVD, he said he had to leave some 20 minutes on the cutting room floor. The funny thing is that most people I talk to that hated it were angry because the story either didn't make sense or felt really disjointed. Of course it does, just like Identity, the narrator is literally insane.
-
what happened to Nimoy retiring?
-
Dark waters? It must be time to suit up...
-
I fear even the presence of the Nimoy won't spare BayFormer 3 : Kiss the Dark Side of My Moon from being a big pile of spent turbofox fuel slugs. =[
-
SUIT UP!!!
-
I hope its as awesome as Nimoy excitedly telling me that he has in fact got pig iron.
-
I thought the first six minutes wasn't that great either. The problem with Sucker Punch was that it had too many letters in the title, starting with 'e'. That movie was gangrene covered in shit. Let it go, Warners.
-
Oh good. I haven't heard anyone say that movie sucked yet. I agree. Worst movie I've ever seen, or at least in a really long time.
-
My Sucker Punch high has worn down a little so I think I can look at it a little less biased now. I still think it was a good movie. But I also think it had kind of a lame ending. I have a theory about why some critics are so hard on it, especailly male critics.
-
Interesting. I went to look at the latest on Rottentomatoes. 2 weeks ago: Critics 22, Audience 76 last week: Critics 21, Audience 60 Today: Critics 20, Audience 59 Forgetting the critics, when only 59% of the paying audience liked the movie... it's bad.
-
"On Cybertron we Autobots were fo' shizzle. Then the Deceptacons got all up in our grills, and we were like, oh no you di'n't!"
-
Sucker Punch was such a steaming pile of shit. The first six minutes were probably the best part of the movie.
-
If that's how they're trying to get people to see Suckerpunch, they're doing it wrong. After the 1st 6 minutes are over, it's like a whole new movie. It's like trying to get people to see 28 Days Later by showing them clips of Sandra Bullocks' 28 Days. The phrases "hot chicks" and "clockwork zombie nazis" were all it took to get me to go see Suckerpunch. TL

Brilliant
