I'm a 13 yr old who was introduced 2 dr who at age 6! Liz was the one that really got me in2 dr who. She was always a person I looked up2. I always saw her as a hero and role-model. Now my hero's dead and something in me has died too ;(
-
Even if I didn't like the character or her show, I'll pray for a safe journey towards the next life. I see many of you feel for this and I'm sure she appreciates all your condolences.
-
Sigh, no longer does earth have a first line of defense. Godspeed Sara Elisabeth Sladen Jane
-
Great that she had a recent career revival. Very sad to hear she has gone. (Bit of a nerdy teen-age crush on my part!)
-
I had just been re-watching the first few seasons of the "new" Doctor Who and just finished with Season 4 two nights ago. I log in today and see this. I really have no words. A year older than my dad. Very talented woman. And in the Doctor's own words "Brilliant!".
-
Soo gutted. She was an amazing actress and I watched nearly everything of hers. Really sad news, RIP Elisabeth Sladen.
-
Oh, this sucks. She looked so young and healthy in the show. And she was absolutely brilliant in the few old Doctor Who shows that I've seen. She was a great talent and she will be missed.
-
Tom Baker has posted some fine words on his site about Ms. Sladen: http://www.tom-baker.co.uk/pages/content/index.asp?PageID=159
-
If your boyfriend sees this and doesn't immediately get you a dozen red roses, if not an engagement ring, he is both cad and fool.
-
Her and the Brigadier both gone, one shortly after the other? Quite depressing for us Whovians.
-
:( I read this yesterday, and was saddened by it. The picture you chose, though, that makes it sadder. RIP Elisabeth.
-
really sad i liked her on Dr Who.
-
Same here. What a beautiful quote. I loved SJA and Elisabeth was just so brilliant in it. She will be missed.
-
I've been on the verge of tears since my mom told me about this when I woke up this morning, but that picture just broke me completely. There aren't enough words to describe how sad and shocking this is. Wonder if there'll be any kind of dedication to her (or Nicholas Courtney, for that matter) on the Doctor Who premiere this weekend?
-
I'm not a Doctor Who fan myself, but my boyfriend is. I've only seen him cry three times in our six- year relationship. Once when our dog died, once when he was almost beaten to death by some madman on the crazy streets of this awful city, and once when he saw the reunion of Dr. Who and Sarah Jane. So on behalf of my love, I feel I should express his sadness to a face he grew up with. You will be remembered, Miss Elisabeth Sladen.
-
Thanks for the instant punch in the stomach TR. We'll miss you, Sarah Jane.
-
Good-bye, my Sarah Jane, and rest in peace, Ms. Sladen. You were too young. My condolences and best wishes to her family.
-
she rocks, the best companion Doctor Who has ever had
-
Rest in peace Elisabeth! You were a great actor and will be missed by many! <3
-
There's still Series 5 of Sarah Jane Adventures to be aired.
-
my condolences :(
-
We salute you from Dallas, Texas, Liz Sladen. I will remember you forever.
-
Man, that picture just about wrecked me.
-
The pic alone is enough to cause eye leakage.
-
All my love to long ago. God bless you Elisabeth Sladen. You were truly fantastic.
-
I lost my dad last week, so I already have a huge hatred of death. Elisabeth was simply the best. A classy lady, a great character. Did you know she was in Series 3 of SJA with her husband of 42 years? 63 is way too young! And yes, I am a grown man crying about a woman I never met. Lis, you were a star, every bit as bright as any of the Doctors. My kids are crying too as they love SJA and we will watch School Reunion tommorow in her honour. God Bless You Lis for everything, the Tardis is a emptier today. Our prayers for your family.
-
RIP We will always love and miss you. :(
-
When i saw this post just now i was shocked and saddened R.I.P Elisabeth you will surely be missed.
-
Goodbye, Sarah Jane. I'll take care of K-9 in your stead, I know he'll miss you the most. :(
-
I plan on pouring out a forty in her honor this weekend. We lost one hell of a gal :(
-
... fuck...
-
I am so gutted about this, it's like when I heard that Joey Ramone died; I hadn't even heard about him being sick and then I hear that he's dead. This is such a downer; some of my earliest memories of seeing Classic Doctor Who on PBS are of the Pyramids Of Mars episode with her and Tom Baker, and how lovely Sarah Jane looked in that white dress. Rest in peace; Elisabeth Sladen, you brought considerable warmth and spunk to the role of Sarah Jane, a character who was brave, intelligent , a role model and definitely no mere damsel in distress. You were beautiful and classy right up to the end!
-
...Bye, Sarah Jane. And thanks....
-
And now we have to say goodbye to another great of our geeky world. R.I.P. Ms. Sladen, you will be missed.
-
Such a wonderful lady. She will be missed.
-
I didn't watch much Dr. Who except for the Tom Baker seasons. I was always impressed by her acting ability. She did a great job as Sarah.
-
This is so sad... I don't know what else to say. RIP Elisabeth.
-
And I thought my mom was young at 79. I'm going to mis both of them.
-
To me, some things really are worth getting my heart broken for, and I'm glad one of them is the pleasure of Sarah Jane Smith keeping me company. Rest in peace, Mrs. Sladen.
-
Oh shit. Crap.
-
Elisabeth Sladen will be missed. She and Tom Baker were big reasons why i continue to be fans of Doctor Who today.
-
Man. I've been away from the Internet all day and I just can't believe this. So tragically sad.
-
Ugh, I just feel like I got punched in the gut. Sarah Jane was the first companion I remember seeing. The premiere this weekend just got a little more bittersweet.
-
This is very sad, Elisabeth Sladen and Tom Baker were the original reasons why I started watching Dr. Who in the 1980"s. I was shocked when she left the show since I didn't know that companions were always leaving The Doctor. I really lost it when Tom Baker's Doctor regenerated into Peter Davidson's Doctor. R.I.P Ms. Sladen, You will be missed.
-
Damn it- I wasn't crying UNTIL THIS POST ;-; You will be missed Sarah Jane, and your episodes treasured by generations of fans.
-
Beautiful quote. She is irreplaceable, and, as that show has proved again and again, time can never diminish love. I'm just grateful as a fan to be able to relive her moments as Sarah Jane, and feel heartbroken by the fact that her family and friends cannot relive her moments as Elisabeth only but in memory, at least for now. My thoughts to her family, friends, and fans.
-
The Tardis just got a little smaller on the inside.
-
Mere words are insufficient.
-
I just re-watched "School Reunion" about an hour ago, by way of tribute, and I am now that much more bummed-out.
-
A little piece of myself died along with her today. She was one of the first companions I saw, when the Pertwee episodes played on a local station in Philadelphia in the mid-'70's. Puberty was just starting to hit me and brother, between her and Joanna Cameron on Isis, it hit like a ton of bricks. I always thought she was one of the best, smart, funny, able to take a little of the wind out of the Doctor's sail when he needed it. And she was probably the first female companion who was written to be more that just a screaming damsel in distress. All of the "tough gal" companions who followed her: Leela, Tegan, Mel, Ace, and Martha, had a little bit of Sarah Jane in her. I met her at a convention, and found her to be a gracious and sweet lady. Rest in peace, Liz. And give my regards to Jon when you see him. You guys were my favorite Doctor/Companion pair.
-
Fuck you, cancer.
-
:(
-
:(
-
I REALLY hope they pay tribute in an episode as you suggest.
-
The entire Empire such as it was loved her, and one of the ex-colonies as well.
-
A true legend in the Doctor Who world, and will be dearly missed. It came as a huge shock this evening to learn of her passing. She seemed so well and energetic. Rest in peace Lis. xxx
-
Very sad.
-
That's the 3rd important Elisabeth (Elizabeth) gone from my life in the past month. Downer :( but... "nothing is ever forgotten... not really..."
-
R.I.P., amazing lady! You'll be missed.
-
This is such a kick in the teeth. One of my favorite moments from the new series is when SJS turns and sees the TARDIS in 'School Reunion' - just a great moment of continuity and surprise for a classic character. Like she'd woken up from a dream and all her adventures with the Doctor did actually happen.
-
The husband told me about this earlier today. I loved Elisabeth Sladen! I have slowly been acquiring the Tom Baker episodes with her as the companion...Goodbye Sarah Jane Smith
-
Yes, I will. She is a very sweet person. No (wo)man is an island, every death diminishes me.
-
I'm so sad to hear this. What a classy lady...
-
No, no, no, no..... not my Sarah Jane.
-
Good night, Sarah Jane :( Why did you have to be taken at such a young age :( :( (Jeez Rob, that picture is tear-inducing.)
-
God damn it, that made me cry :(
-
Aw, damnit.
-
Hmmm...y'know what, I'm giving a thumbs up because this article is allowing us to express our grief over the loss of a life and allowing us to celebrate a wonderful person. Thumbs up for Elisabeth Sladen being remembered on Topless Robot.
-
So so sad. She was amazing and her death is just so unexpected. :(
-
Well, crap. Sorry to hear about this.
-
I was wondering what was up with them the last time she was on the show. They had to have known, it was way to heavy feeling to be just acting. She will be sadly missed, I'm very glad she had a chance to spend so much time doing what she obviously enjoyed so much, It's the best kind of life to have. Don't put off spending time doing what you love with whomever you love, you don't usually get to know how long that time will be.
-
Today is a much sadder day and a little less brighter tomorrow. R.I.P. You will be very missed.
-
sad for she was my favorite doctor who companions. now she is traveling in the heavens version of the Tardis. sympathy to her friends and family for the lost of a unique and one of kind lady.
-
Goodbye... My Sarah Jane.
-
Yeah, Leela was in Chicago last November.
-
This has actually reduced me to tears. She was just so... awesome. She was my first companion of my first doctor and she was truly amazing. ...I'm going to go eat my feelings now.
-
I'm terribly saddened by this.. but all I could think was that she was with Jon Pertwee and Nicholas Courtney now.. and I hope they are having some nice times catching up
-
She was a guest at the very first convention I went to when I was about 11, she was so nice to me and my little sister. My sister now has two daughters who adore the Sarah Jane Adventures they will be gutted when they hear the news.
-
That picture is just heartwrenching.
-
Here I am, a grown man with tears in his eyes for a woman he never met. It still feels like I've lost an old and dear friend. Elizabeth Sladen was part of everything that was great about DOCTOR WHO, Sarah Jane Smith was a part of my childhood and thanks to the revived series and THE SARAH JANE ADVENTURES she is one of my daughter's heroes. That couldn't have been possible if not for the magic Elizabeth Sladen brought to the role. Rest In Peace
-
... y'know what needs to happen? Moffat needs to demand an extra episode for series 7. He needs to write an ep where EVERY LIVING DOCTOR just stops by 36 Bannerman to say hi to their old friend. It needs to be COMPLETELY in canon. And it needs to be awesome. ... or, damn, at LEAST get an extra scene in an ep so Luke's fate isn't left hanging! Or something! ... gah. This sucks so hard... ;_;
-
Oh. no, no, no. She's younger than both my parents. :(
-
Damn, this sucks. May she rest in peace with John Pertwee in the great beyond.
-
Sigh... That was too early for her to go.
-
This one hurts, a lot
-
Flippin, NO!! =((( Jeez, she was awesome with Tom Baker. I grew up with Tom Baker as the Dr and always looked forward to just seeing the reruns with her in it. Sarah was my first crush when I was a wee little one because she had so much spunk. =(( Wow, this really sucks. I'm so sorry to hear this.
-
"The universe has to move forward. Pain and loss, they define us as much as happiness or love. Whether it's a world, or a relationship... Everything has its time. And everything ends." - Sarah Jane Smith There's a quote to help you all cope. ^_^
-
She was THE companion to a whole generation of kids. Right now I'm frantically looking up my favourite companions to find out their living status. Leela is thankfully still with us.
-
Just... damn. Between her and Nicholas Courtney, it's been a bad couple of months for Who actors. "School Reunion" is still one of my favourite episodes of the new series, to boot - she gave a great performance in that one, and you could tell that it was another one of those Tennant Geekout episodes, since in his mind I'm sure he was beyond thrilled to be sharing the screen with a series legend.
-
Wow.....
-
WHY IS IT SO DIRTY, AROUND ME?!
-
When I first saw this news on Facebook I let out a "WHAT?!" to rival 10. Still in disbelief but may she rest in peace, OUR Sarah Jane.
-
This is heartbreaking. I remember watching Tom Baker as a kid (at the time, they were the only episodes I had seen and I thought he was the one and only Doctor) and I just adored Sarah Jane. When he moved on to other companions I kept watching but it wasn't the same for me and I would get positively giddy when the rerun cycle got back around to her episodes. I realize now that she was one of my first crushes even though at the time I was too young to really understand that. When the new show started up I was ecstatic to see her and David Tennant together. School Reunion is still one of my favorites. I'd watch it tonight but I think it would make me too sad. I guess what I'm trying to say is goodbye...my Sarah Jane.
-
Awww shit. Now I feel bad about hating her TV show so much. Can't believe it.... she was so young.
-
Gutted. We'll never forget you, Sarah Jane.
-
She passed away knowing that all of Great Britain loved her, at least.
-
Wow, how sad. She was my favorite Doctor's companion and for so long the measure of all other companions. Sad.
-
Absolutely gutted Sarah Jane was the first Companion (rather than just an assistant), the one I most remember from my childhood and the measure against which all other companions are compared RIP Ms Sladen, you will be truly missed
-
A majority of my favorite Doctor Who moments involved Sarah Jane Smith. A lot of us nerds are going to miss you, Elisabeth Sladen.
-
Oh man...that sucks so much. I just watched Pyramids of Mars this morning. A beautiful and talented actress. RIP.
