Oh, lord. This isn't a real Batman game... well, not real as in it's not official -- it's one of those fan-made 2-D Mugen fighting games -- but oh, what a 2-D fighting game it is. The character line-up alone is outstanding: Several Batmen, most of his rogue's gallery, a few Justice League members, then folks like The Demon and Deathstroke... man, I wish this thing were real (or at least finished so I could download it and play it). If the dudes making this are for some reason reading this article, might I make a request? '60s Adam West Batman. YOU KNOW IT'S THE RIGHT THING TO DO. Batman AND Robin?! How does THAT work?!
Oh, wait, I get it! It's going to be played like Karl Clover & Nirvana in "Blazblue", right? If that's the case, then does that mean Robin would act like a human shield and be able to take hits intended for Batman? Because I know all the Damian haters are gonna be going "BEST. GAME. EVER!" if that was true. XD
I imagine some moves will automatically have Damian come on the screen to perform them, such as a Batarang barrage iniated by Dick will have Damian appear to join him. Same goes for special moves.
Nah, they work in Tandem, like Ice Climbers or the brother/sister pair in the upcoming Chaos Code. For some moves they switch foreground and background, they block, jump dash, walk, etc in tandem. Pain to sprite but easier to code. You guys'll see soon enough.
I'm fucking sick of MUGEN... all they ever do is cocktease you with videos, not games you'll ever get to play...
How about we release the game right now with just Jason Todd, then we'll charge you guys money for additional characters, stages and features a few months from now? People seem to love it when commercial fighters do that nowadays...
Seriously though, most commercial games have a staff of like 90 Japanese dudes working around the clock for their car, room and board. We're about ten people doing this when we get breathing room from families, kids, SO's and our own real jobs (I'm a teacher myself.) Takes a little time, as it were. But we'l have something playable soon enough.
Companies shoud take a bit of inspiration from MUGEN (well Capcom did looking at Deadpool and some of his moves in MVsC3).Instead of crappy "MK Vs DCU" we could have had some decent to awesome 2D Beat'em Up with DC Characters (just look up some MUGEN Videos on YouTube with "GL" Hal Jordan, Superman, Captian Marvel or other characters).
Agreed. Have you ever seen the Punisher in Mugen...Such sweet animation. I play Eternity Of Heroes only for Punisher. Also the Alamagam Universe Mugen games are great also!
Some of these characters have been around for years (I know I have Etrigan on mine). I'm interested in seeing Mr. Freeze in action, though.
Uhm, no? We have permission on Etrigan from Wucash, who coded our Deadpool. Superman the same, from Kal-Elvis, who I coached on his version in the first place. Oh, and Batzarro is a placeholder, based on an edit by Alucard, which was originally edited from our Batman sprites.
Everything else in there is all us. Way to spread misinformation, though.

Also: "spreading misinformation" implies that I knew otherwise, but was trying to slander people. Naw, I just assumed you were like 99% of compilation games out there.
It's okay. My programming skills are relaly horrible, so I haven't been able to CONTRIBUTE much to MUGEN over the years, but I've screwed around with it since late 2000. Most of waht I've been able to do is post funny thing son mugenguild's screenshots thread, but it's been a while since I've tried that. But yeah, theft is a huge problem, and I assumed before really checking it out.
By the way, can you change some of the default hotkeys now? Last I checked, you couldn't pause without the pause button, and this was bad since my laptop lacks that.

We still haven't released our Batman and he was 95% finished a year ago. Having to redo all of your custom sprites when certain other characters come out having used them really, really sucks - so we're not big fans of unauthorized comp games / edits either.
Since you seem knowledgeable about this... Do you know where I can download these games, if they're available? (By the way, German Barbie Girl was every bit as horrible as you made it out to be! x__x )

Keep in mind that they usually aren't "full games" you're downloading (as in, an exe) as much as directories with tons of stuff in them. I usually look(looked? it's been a while) at mgbr.net for updates, mugenguild.com's forum for EVERYTHING (they're pretty well-connected), and I remember mugen-infantry as being a really good search engine. There are others, though, and a lot of unique sites with individual creations on them. I mean, my MUGEn that I hadn't updated since 2009 had that version of the Demon on it, as well as an older Batman, so take what you willl

both files are really justtext files that mugen accesses to determine how the game works. select.def is your select screen, and you can choose what's in it. One of the other data files (mugen.cfg or fight.def) has the actual data for how many select boxes there are, what size, and whatconfiguration. Select.def can also set charcaters to be fought in a specific order (everyone flagged as "1" forst, then "2," then a boss, or however you want it). It takes a little to get used to, but once you DO, you can find all sorts of awesomeness!
To be honest, this is all Greek to me, but the great thing about being a nerd is having awesome nerd friends who probably know exactly what you're talking about. I can learn from their expertise!
The one thing you NEED to knowwhen working with muden is how select.def works. Then learn how things like mugen.cfg work so you can increase the roster. It's nice if you can actually program stuff, but those are the basics you need to actually make it playable.
Original MUGEN doesn't work too well with WIndows Vista, but the original creators returned after like a ten year absence to make a windows-compatible one... only not ALL of the old stuff works with it. it should be good, though!
love the old school look of the game. and surprise they also did not include batgirl in it . plus love how would could if the game was real make two face fight himself.
The fact that not one of the sprites in this demo appears to be animated leads me to believe that this is a loooooooooooooong way from playable.
Its simply stupid, since 2007 or something just they show screen prints, characters are disperse and in beta quality
Wouldn't mind seeing McGinnis and some of his rogues gallery added in. You get Inque, Blight, Mad Stan, Shriek, and Curare. That's some good characters there.
Edit: Also, throwing in Old Man Bruce with Ace, and Commissioner Barbara Gordon would be good too.

Make her play kind of like a guilty gear character with really fluid poses and wild, all ocer the screen options? Shit yeah!
Pretty sure another team is working on a more TAS/Bats Beyond type project and we don't want to step on any toes.
