Super Terrific Japanese Thing: Oshokuji no Jikan DVD

?Are you a nerd with crippling social anxiety? Does the idea of talking to a girl who isn’t 2-D make your bladder empty? Does the world outside your tiny, figure-laden apartment frighten the bejeezus out of you, but you still just want someone to have a pleasant meal with? From JapanSugoi:

is a DVD series aimed at lonely otaku guys who either work all day,
have no friends or have no social skills to land a date or a combination
of all three. Luckily for them, the folks at K-Network produced a 3 DVD
virtual dinner date series where  the viewer pretends he’s eating a
meal with a (girl) friend.

The marketing blurb on the DVD says “you no longer have to eat
alone”.  Each DVD is hour long and there are 3-5 different girls
featured eating a variety of foods with engaging in various chit chat
and conversation.

…wow. There’s not an emoticon in the world that can convey my depression at knowing this exists. I think it would actually be less sad if they featured bikini models or anime characters, or were nerdy conversations, or anything they couldn’t do in real life. The fact the these people feel like even a normal dinner date is beyond all realistic expectations… yeesh.
