The casting has been pretty darn good BUUUT there have been some weird ones that stray pretty far from the description given by G. Martin. Renly and Illryo are up there in that tiny list; there was another but now i have forgotten. You can't get everything you want, yet the casting crew has done wonders. Oh if Burt Reynolds was younger he could have been an excellent Jorah. And the resemblance between Jaime and prince charming from Shrek 2 is uncanny!

I don't know guys, this Stephen Dillane looks like he can pull off the teeth-clenching, unbending king of Dragonstone to me...
From winter-is-coming.net, Davos will be played Liam Cunningham... (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm019...
and Maester Cressen by Oliver Ford Davies...(http://www.imdb.com/name/nm020...
She is exactly how I pictured Melisandre, for sure. But I agree with someone before who said that photo matches my image of Davos more than Stannis.
Agree with "they both look pretty damned appropriate", but there have been too many glaring mis-casts to agree with "the casting for Game of Thrones has been so superb". Sorry.
When are they going to announce who plays Davos? That's the one I'm really curious about.

There is a picture of him on his IMDb page! I think he's perfect!
Wow. She looks nothing like she did in Black Books.Ofcourse Game of Thrones would be much different with Dylan Moran and Bill Bailey.
"but the casting for Game of Thrones has been so superb"
Waaaaaaaaaaaait a minute. That statement needs to be qualified. The casting of Renly Baratheon, not that he is a bad actor, is a fail of epic proportions. In fact the whole portrayal of him in the series is.
The dude was suppose to be a huge knight-like type of guy, long black hair, clean shaven, super charismatic, like the second coming of a young Robert Baratheon.
Instead we got this short haired, bearded, small, weak looking guy with absolutely no charisma what so ever. It's going to be hard for me to buy the fact that the South rises in opposition to Joffrey for that guy next season...
Definitely agree. While he is described as being "Copper" where Robert was "Steel", I still think Renly had a sort of presence about him in the books. Unless there's some major changes in his behavior next season, I don't see it being believable. But then again, it's not like he actually goes in to battle...
The sum total description of Renly in the official Wiki is:Renly is tall and handsome man with black hair falling to his shoulders. He is thought to look eerily similar to a young Robert Baratheon
Calm down and see how it plays out.
So Milhouse's un mentioned non cartoon hot older sister will play Melisandre? Nice
i couldn't resist
Now all we need is a video of Dinklage slapping these folks for ten minutes straight, and life will be good.
Obligatory nudity search on Carice van Houten have yielded pleasing results. :)
Melsindre shoot up a good bit in my book in ADWD so I'm really looking forward to seeing her. I pictured Stannis as a bulkier guy though. But I haven't seen this fellow in anything so I can't judge.
I heard that Gwendoline Christie is cast as Brienne of Tarth, the warrior maiden.Seems perfect as she's 6'3", which puts her a half inch taller than Jaime.http://www.imdb.com/media/rm39...
Yeah, that made the rounds a week or two ago. She's not perfect for the role, but she's probably Hollywood-perfect for the role.
Oh, man. I gotta go re-watch Black Book to prepare for all the Carice Van Houten related goodness on the next season of Game of Thrones. She is... totally... awesome. So happy to see her get this breakout role.
Emmy please!
I last saw Carice Van Houten orchestrating one of Sean Bean's most unpleasant deaths ever. She was pretty good as a possibly-evil witch in Black Death. Good choice.
Dillane seems a little old to be Stannis, but then he's often described as looking older than his years. My problem is going to be that he kind of fits my mental picture of Davos; I'm sure costuming will sort that out, but they'd better get someone good as the Onion Knight.
I thought she was the only good part of that movie. That and Captain Darling of course.
Hey, we don't know that it will be five years until the next novel, right? Steven King knocked out the last two Dark Tower books pretty quickly.
...ok, bad example. Maybe it will be for the best if A Song of Ice and Fire takes another decade to finish.
The less said about the final book of the Dark Tower the better.
I admit, I never finished it. I hit a point where a major character got killed like a chump, nerd-raged, and haven't read a King book since.
You haven't missed much I can tell you. Under the Dome was okay, but that's about it.
Dillane played a socially awkward kind of Jefferson if I recall, and I think he will be a great Stannis.
He's the best stage actor i've ever seen. Saw him do a one man MacBeth a few years ago, which is still the best shakespeare I've ever seen. He'll be great as Stannis. very excited.
*Sniffle* No truth to that rumor that Christopher Eccleston was being cast as Stannis, then. Ah, well. Still can't wait to see season 2!
