SyFy Cancels Another Sci-Fi Series

?SyFy just canceled another of its long-running, popular science fiction series, Eureka. I never watched it, so I’ll leave the wailing and gnashing of teeth and beating of breasts to you viewers. I will say, however, that SyFy managed to be extra dickish about the whole thing by renewing Eureka for a sixth season just last week… and then changing their minds.

That’s fucked up. In fact, that’s not just fucked up, that’s mean. To cancel a show right after renewing it? That’s not something I would have expected any channel to do, although if I’d had to guess one that might, I probably would have said SyFy. Oh, and to rub a little salt on the wound, here’s a statement from a SyFy spokesperson:

“After painstaking consideration, we have had to make the difficult
business decision to not order a season six of Eureka. But Eureka is not
over yet. There is a new holiday episode this December and 12 stellar
episodes set to debut next year, marking its fifth season and six
memorable years on Syfy. The 2012 episodes are some of the best we’ve
seen, and will bring this great series to a satisfying end. We are very
grateful to Bruce Miller and Jaime Paglia, their team of incredible
writers, and an amazing cast and crew who have consistently delivered a
series we continue to be very proud of. We thank the fans for their
support of this show and know they will enjoy its final season in 2012.”

To paraphrase: “This show is fantastic. It’s never been better. We love it. Everyone who works on it is awesome, and we’re confident more fans than ever before will enjoy its newest season. And that’s why we’re canceling it, because we apparently hate good, popular shows. Now, stay tuned for more wrestling!” (Via The Hollywood Reporteri>)
