Wait, Takeshi Miike who made Ichi the Killer and 13 Assassins is doing this? Whoa, interesting.
-
OMG HE'Z ASIAN! KAWAI SUGOI!!! THAT MEANZ ITZ INSTANTLY GOOD OMGS!!! NOT LIEK AMERICAN CRAP CUZ AMERICA CANT MAKE MOOVEYS BASED ON JAPAN THING CUZ TEHY ALWAYS DONT GET IT AND SCREW IT UP ALL EVERY TIMEZ!! ^ This type of typical ingrained, automatic response to seeing Japan make an anime/game based live action film, never fails to amaze me. Every. Single. Time. Even when it still looks absolutely ridiculous. Because knee-jerk double standards based entirely on nationality is fun.
-
Awesome. I live in Japan and every now and then get told that I look like that actor. Looks like I've got next year's Halloween costume.
-
All Japanese properties could be good or great even if the Japanese ethnicity were replaced with white guys, black guys, or Mexicans, depending on the marketing demographics. The reason the properties are shitty is because the adapted script is terrible, the actors cast either have no ability, and/or are phoning it in for a paycheck, and the director is an incompetent hack, and/or phoning it in for a paycheck. Not to mention that 80% of the videogames and anime that get adapted in the first place have terrible, nonsensical stories that even the ghost of Stanley Fucking Kubrick couldn't salvage.
-
I'd figure if Takeshi Miike would ever direct a videogame movie, it'd be for a Rockstar game, with the horrific violence turned up about 85%. Thing is, with a director of Miike's ability at the helm, this movie might actually be decent. It might be the first good videogame movie ever. I look forward to the (hypothetical) possibility of Miike directing a God of War movie, as long as he spends the first 45 minutes of the film having Kratos pick flowers with his daughter before the decapitations and graphic sex begin.

A Takarazuka troupe did a Phoenix Wright musical? Hang on, I gotta process this.
-
http://guide2games.org/wp-content/uploads/2008/04/aceattorney-apollojustice-2.jpg He's on the right side. It's just a different perspective the games don't use.
-
Takeshi Miike? God, I hope this movie is just graphic as fuck.
-
The main difference is that was more of a miniseries than a movie and it was released online and for free on Xbox live.
-
the irony here, is the game was americanized when it first came over. In the US phoenix wright takes place in LA. In Japan it takes place in Japan. :P
-
Maybe they flopped the image to make it more familiar to American audiences. Like they did to a lot of manga back in the day.
-
Yeah, from what I've heard it was pretty terribad. It was done by a famous all-female troupe and apparently wasn't very faithful to the games.
-
Why is Phoenix standing on the prosecutor's side?
-
Takashi Miike?? Holy crap have you seen any of his other movies? Audition and Ichi the Killer are effed up. He's a good director but i would have never thought he'd do a movie like Phoenix Wright
-
We got Capcom's last movie - that crappy Dead Rising story from Inafune. I don''t see why this would be different. Except, well, I'm sure it'll be pretty damn decent at least, while Dead Rising's movie was... Eh.
-
Were the Phoenix Wright games even released in America? And they're only on DS, right? I had to wiki the character to see what the hell he was after seeing the Marvel / Capcom video a couple weeks ago -- I'd never heard of him. I'm amazed so many people over here have Nintendo DSeseses to even know what the heck this is. Then again I don't follow Japanese culture too closely, and I tend to have no idea about any anime that gets discussed on TR, either...
-
"Ultimate" should be released this November. Saw his demo at NYCC he looks quite fun, plus the game has some intressting new modes.
-
It was SLIGHTLY less horrific than the Hunter X Hunter and Prince of Tennis musicals. Which is to say it was kind of horri-fucki-bad-ible.
-
THERE WAS A MUSICAL?!?! I must get a song from it for auditions! Was it ever translated to English?
-
Miike did Sukiyaki Western Django, which I enjoyed. I am sure this is in his range.
-
Wait Takeshi Miike directing this? I don't want to know how Mia Fey will die in this movie
-
Takeshi Miike is directing this? The same dude who directed Ichi The Killer and Audition? For real? How many sexually frustrated murder cases will this movie involve?
-
If you think Maya/Mia is weird, then What about Pearl channeling Mia? Manfred Von Karma... Now that guy is nightmare inducing!
-
I wasn't touching Akira... cause I don't want to touch that until the movie is made... Might be good or might be a Clusterfuck of epic proportions that makes DB:E look like a faithful to the source Material Masterpiece... which was the movie I was referring to.
-
We'll probably get a fan-sub that will be easily available at cons, LCS, or other places... wink, wink
-
I'm sure that if we can get RoboGeisha here in the states, This to will be available as well.
-
Oooooh, looks pretty neat. I'm not too upset at the lack of spikes in Nick's hair. I don't think it would translate into real life very well and it would end up looking really, really stupid and fake. Right now it just looks like he likes hitting the hair gel. I'm cool with that. :) Any word yet on whether they're going with the Japanese or the English names? I ask because I know the stage show musical went with the English names.
-
Think it's weird now? We haven't seen anything involving Maya channelling Mia.
-
I still can't quite wrap my head around a Takeshi Miike version of Ace Attorney.
-
I heard about this a few months ago, and it's weirder than I could possibly imagine. ... Right. Japan.
-
......so Japan making an adaption of a Japanese game using japanese actors for japanese characters? The issue Hollywood thinks they have(and its possible they are correct) is that The US is most white followed by black. The audience can have a hard time swallowing the altered reality of the world of say Akira if all the actors are asian. How do we know that isn't the reality of Japan?
-
Yeah, I was going to express disbelief that a Japanese production seemingly didn't produce sufficiently crazy hair. WTH?
-
Takashi Miike is directing this! Holy FUCK! That's as must see as a Phoenix Wright movie can get!
-
It's on Bricken! Schwartz battle a-go go!
-
you know who else is anticipating it? the tent in the brick's shorts! your anticipation's got some stiff competition!
-
Awesome! I love Miike's work, needless to say I'm greatly anticipating this.
-
he looks great and your raise an objection to the erection in your pants
-
And it will never see a release in American theaters. Fuck. I doubt we'll even get a subbed DVD release, let alone a dubbed one.
-
Nice! Miike can be an uneven director, but I have faith in him. I admit to being worried how Phoenix would look, but I think they found a nice balance between plausible reality and utterly ridiculous.
-
A Phoenix Wright movie? That could fun. Directed by Takashi Miike? There is no way this won't be fucking amazing!
-
Wow. Awesome. So will his courtroom moves do physical damage, leading to a KO?
-
i wanna play as this guy in marvel vs capcom.
-
Are those...are those drawings of SPERM he's holding up?! DX FFF has broken me. I need to lie down.
-
I agree. His hair isn't quite right. But this looks like it will be hilarious.
-
This looks fun already. :)
-
My only complaint is that the hair is not nearly spiky enough. Needs to be sharp enough to double as a can opener. Otherwise, HECK YES
-
Wow that looks awesome, and I've never even played any of the games.
-
Hold it! Japan's making a Live Action Phoenix Wright movie and it's trying to be as Accurate as possible!? Take that! Hollywood and crappy extremely far removed Americanized adaptations of Japanese stuff...
