Was that Nick Cannon?
-
Fricken YouTube generation and Hollywood thinking the general public loves shaky cam footage on purpose. Just give me Misfits already. Great show with the same general premise (douchey trouble making teens with superpowers) . . . can't say I'm too excited about the American remake in the works, but, whatever.
-
STFU Fabio!
-
movie is directed by Josh Trank (Big Fan), NOT Max Landis. Landis wrote the screenplay.
-
So true.
-
I know, right? Why can't they just slap this one as "inspired by the animated motion picture 'Akira'" and just call it a day?
-
So...basically "Village of the Giants", only with telekinesis.

Actually, the advent of video cameras in cell phones and small digital cameras is helping to explain and justify the use of "shaky cam" footage. There isn't a need for a hipster who wants to preserve the ancient art of "feelm photography", but just acknowledging that a lot of hipsters have cell phones and what not. Why else do these kind of movies include endless reputations of, "dude!" "Man!" "Bro!", and the like? At least, when there isn't a retro 80's or modern indie song playing "interstitially".
-
Alas, I think that this movie may end up a better remake of Akira than the actual one being planned...
-
Never underestimate the ability of people on the internet to be cynical assholes.
-
I know someone on another forum who actually read the script for this movie, and it definitely does not suck. It's actually pretty solid.
-
No need for an "Americanized" Akira, this is it.
-
Looks kinda neat.
-
Oh i'm glad someone else mentioned Misfits, which this does look a little inspired by. However saying that, the concept of "What if normal people got Super Powers?" is not exactly an original concept so I shall refrain from moaning :P
-
I liked this better when it was a movie called Kickass. or comic called kickass. and Gen13 before that. and Generation X before that. and just about every other X-book before and after that. ...you know what we really don't need this. Shaky cam and all.
-
...this looks nothing like Misfits. The only similarity is that both are about teenagers with weird powers. You could just as easily say it's a remake of I Am Number Four or whatever.
-
The trailer pretty much showed the whole movie, and what it showed, sucked.
-
Sorry, but if I had those powers I would also be totally moving stuffed animals around, scaring the shit out of children. Total given.
-
Wait, wait! Are we sure this is not the Americanized Akira Live Action movie?
-
"You keyed my car?! I WILL HUNT YOU DOWN WHERE YOU LIVE AND FEAST UPON YOUR CHILDREN!!!" Bitten by a radioactive African European Bee, Disproportionate Response Man has the supernatural ability to go way too far than the situation rightly calls for. Evildoers beware, if you cut in front of him at the line at the local supermarket, he will seduce your mother and burn down your house!
-
A couple of people on a forum read the script and said it was pretty solid. So, I'm pretty optimistic that this will be good.
-
Except that it's definitely a remake of Misfits.
-
The first thing i thought was this has already been done. I totally agree with blackkristos... Misfits is really clever, and funny this looks like a lot more douche and much less clever. I'll probably still watch it though.
-
Well... at least it's not a remake of something.
-
*shakes bottled city of Kandor* EARTHQUAKE!!!
-
"what wouldreally happen if a bunch of normal --i.e., douchey -- teens really got superpowers"I believe it's called Misfits and is back on for it's third series soon
-
Let me just grab a bucket of blood from a Christian man....
-
This is why we can't have nice things. It reminds me of my sisters habit of always reading the end of the book first. Why even fucking bother if you know what's going to happen!?! Brain hurts.....
-
I AM A CAMERA!!
-
Believe it or not, major studies show that makes people want to see the movie more than not revealing the plot of the movie in the trailers.
-
I liked it except they pretty much gave away the whole movie...
-
It was the best American Godzilla movie
-
Mehbe??
-
Decided to login just to add that the black guy was actually on a pretty good recent TV show called 'Parenthood'. He was actually a competent and convincing actor, so that gives me a little more hope for the movie.
-
Pretty soon they're going to have to justify it with some hipster in the movie that only likes using old school video cameras a la dead battery/no signal prevalent in horror movies.
-
I enjoyed Cloverfield immensely, but there was absolutely no need for the god damn "shakey cam" crap! Frankly, most video cameras these days have image adjusting for shaking/blurring. How much longer can this "authentic" experience go on?!?!?!
-
I don't care what you all say, Cloverfield was the best American monster movie of the past ten years. Granted, stuff like Troll Hunter and The Host proves that the "American" caveat makes it less impressive, but still. Oh, yeah, this movie. Yep, definitely getting an Akira vibe from it. COINCIDENCE?????
-
At first I was like "Meh" But now I'm like "Meh. Maybe."
-
Somebody needs to tell Hollywood that kids just shoot video on their cell phones now
-
It's a gritty remake of Zapped!
-
Akirafield
-
This demonstrates why no one should have super powers. Especially kids.
-
I had forgotten about The Craft. I'm sure it was on purpose. But yeah, you're right. Totally like The Craft.
-
Did anybody else get Akira vibes off this? I was actually wondering if it would pop up on TR soon after I watched the trailer as an ad before a YouTube video this morning.
-
Well, it seems the only shakes that occur are when the "douchers" are filming one another performing the moniker worthy acts. The rest of the film looks to be shot traditionally. I think it looks pretty rad. Mainly because, for the most part, that's exactly how I would act if I had similar powers.
-
Ahhh, right, forgot about that. Still, we need a full movie of that, so Rob still owes us.
-
Dude, more like The Craft with guys. Right down to the "drunk with power teenagers revel in their awesome powers, until one goes mad with it and goes rogue, hurting innocent people" twist.
-
TROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL
-
As a long time member of the Superdickery forums, I have to warn you guys that the website has been abandoned for awhile now and exists now as a wasteland of malware. Visit at your own risk.
-
if the other kids actually DO try to stop the bigger of the douchebags, then maybe, but def not playing to see douchebags, errr 1 douchebag kill a bunch of ppl and get away with it.... i need more of a story or plot to get into it
-
Batman: The Brave and the Bold already did it fantastically.
-
I'm holding out for a movie starring Disproportionate Response Man.
-
interesting trailer. have to admit i am intrigued to see how much more trouble the three characters get into with their powers and also what is in that hole.
-
this looks like the kind of shit michael cera should be a part of.
-
It looks like a fairly interesting movie. But God, I *hate* shaky cam. So much. I don't care how much realism or whatever it adds to a movie. Camerawork that makes me nauseated will always ruin the experience.
-
My thoughts exactly.
-
People have been gushing over this thing since yesterday. I think it only looks ok. The kids look annoying and the handycam thing is getting played out. The best part about this trailer is the second half, but that looks more movie-like than found footage. It makes me wonder why they bothered.
-
It looks like a pretty cool movie, but now I'm pissed because Rob built up & then destroyed my hopes for an actual movie/fan video based on Superdickery. You now owe us one freakishly awesome video &/or contest to make up for this, or else the nerd revolt begins. But seriously, movie looks interesting, though revealing the title through the Facebook address seemed lame.
-
It's odd, but that one Family Guy episode actually explored this idea pretty well.
-
I am actually looking forward to this. The shaky cam actually makes the effects look more realistic. I think the trailer reveals too much but I'll definitely check it out. After all, Max Landis made the greatest retelling of Knightfall known to man on youtube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FnDyuNBakV8
-
EDIT: After watching it twice, I change my mind. I think this'll be horrible. Douche kids get superpowers. Do douchey things. One gets all angsty, kills someone, kills more someones. Jesus. It's like The Faculty, or um, that fucking Urban Legends shite. Only with superpowers. Seriously, Misfits does this SO much better than what I'm getting from this trailer.
-
It went from "God no" to "Oh, maybe."
