Herman Cain Only Wanted to Be the Very Best, the Best There Ever Was

On Saturday, December 3rd, Republican presidential nominee Herman Cain, in his speech announcing he was withdrawing from the race, quoted Pok?mon the Movie 2000 in total seriousness. I didn’t report it because any whiff of politics on TR whips some of you all into a frenzy, but, alas, The Daily Show‘s take on the event has proven too wonderful not to share. The magic starts at 3:25:

Now, I’m not here to criticize Republicans in general or Herman Cain in specific. Honestly, whatever my personal politics, I think the fact that a presidential candidate earnestly quoted a Pok?mon movie in a major speech is fantastic. The fact that a Republican did it — because come on, if you had to guess which political party would start quoting children’s anime first, I think we all would have picked the Democrats — makes it even more astounding. Please, if you can, just bask in the majesty of this impossibly unique moment in American politics and nerdery. Your regularly scheduled nonsense will begin shortly.
