• All four Turtles will be playable, with flashbacks played as Master Splinter/Hamato Yoshi.
• Gameplay and story/stage progression will be similar to Batman: Arkham City.
• Bosses include Bebop and Rocksteady, Dr. Baxter Stockman, Shredder (Oroku Saki), and Krang. In the case of the humans-turned-mutants, you fight them in both forms throughout the story.
• The Turtle Van and Turtle Blimp will be included.
• The game will use Arkham City's graphics engine.
• The game is expected to be more dark than slapstick.
The rumor comes from the site Paul Gale Network, which even it lists a good number of reasons why it may be false. I'm going to go out on a limb and say that as reported, the game is at least somewhat fake -- I'm having a hard time imagining a "dark" TMNT game that also include the Turtle Van and the Turtle Blimp -- but even if the game is straight-up Arkham City port with the Turtles, that would be fucking spectacular. The combat and stealth engine would be perfect for terrapins with ninjitsu skills. Again, at the moment, I don't think there's any real reason to suspect this news has any basis in truth, but if we all sit around and hope really, really hard, maybe...?

Huh? The majority of the TMNT comics published before and since the '80s cartoon's heyday have taken place in the original Mirage timeline. The Mirage comics ran from '84 to '93, then resumed between 2001 and 2010. The cartoon may have had the most mainstream success, but without the original Mirage comics the Turtles wouldn't exist, period. You may not like that version, but it IS the original.
-
Pretty sure you're trolling... or you played the Brave and the Bold game by mistake.
-
Hey, I saw the 2003 series. Screw YOU!!! Disregard everything else he said...
-
It would be most likely to be based on whatever the new TMNT movie is supposed to be based on. If it's like the ORIGINAL comics it would be sick!
-
Horrible 80's cartoons? Screw you!
-
No, it shouldn't be. Watch the old cartoon and see why.
-
OH, COME ON! The old cartoon characters were treated poorly in TMNT Forever (THEY DON'T SMILE ALL THE FREAKING TIME AND THERE ARE NO MUTANT BANANAS NOR MUTANT PIZZAS NOR MUTANT BOWLING BALLS.... ARGH!) and you want the game to be based on that?!
-
Make it a greatest hits version. Take the choicest bits from every version and mash it up, set it to "Arkam series", and bake it into the most delicious turtle pie possible. Mmm... that's some good turtle.
-
What. They go for one of the darker interpretations of Batman, and then when it's time to do the Turtles, Hamato Yoshi and Splinter are one and the same, like those horrible 80's cartoons? Let's have, instead, Oroku Nagi attempts to rape Tang Shin, Hamato Yoshi flies into a rage and murders Oroku Nagi, Nagi's younger brother Oroku Saki becomes The Shredder then kills Yoshi and Shin to avenge his brother, The Turtles kill The Shredder at Splinter's behest to avenge his owner, and that brings us to a present where The Foot are constantly trying to kill the Turtles. Like the comic and (sorta) the first movie. Pretty please. With sugar on top. So, I guess I'm someone who's hoping it's fake.
-
I didn't care for Agent Bishop, just your run-of-the-mill "government spook" type villain. That's only been done about nine or ten million times now.
-
Please let this be true. Also it better be based on the original Comic not the cartoon, while still featuring some of the characters (Slash, Leatherhead, Baxter Stockman or f*cking Metal Head) from it. Having a rooftop fight with the Foot while using a B:AA/AC type fighting would rock so unbelievably hard.
-
Well, they may simply mean darker than the 80's cartoon where a lot of those characters and properties originated. I would consider the first live action movie, the CGI movie, and even to a certain extent the newer TV series to all be darker in tone than the 80's series.
-
The 2003 cartoon was excellent except for Hun. Everything about him irritated me. Had they just used more competent versions of Rocksteady & Bebop instead of Hun the show would've been perfect.
-
The TMNT Adventures comics got really dark too. i still have deep psychological trauma from when the Mighty Mutanimals were visciously gunned down.
-
Turtles held up the casino I worked in. It's weird being both terrified and impressed that they all had a different mask
-
If they want dark, why are they using the 80's cartoon? Why not use Mirage comics style or at least 2003? Meh, it doesn't add up. It kind of makes me think of fanboy wishful thinking.
-
I would imagine most of the game would take pace on rooftops fighting ninjas, and you have to climb up buildings like in sly cooper or uncharted. You can probably switch turtles at checkpoints and each has unique skills or gadgets.
-
Darker and grittier? Does that mean all of the Turtles will have goatees?
-
Single button gameplay...? Did we play the same game. X O and square were all usuable, and often needed, in combat for combos. Then there were all the shortcut commands for weapons like L1+ whatever. I mean I don't care if you liked the game or not but calling it single button gameplay is a bit, well, wrong. Epecially jarring when we're talking about a TMNT game. Almost ever TMNT game was one button for hitting, and one for jumping.
-
If their goal is to make it "dark", why are they basing it on the 80's cartoon instead of say, the 2003 cartoon? Yes, I know the original was a big part of many people's fondest childhood memories, but speaking as someone who missed that bandwagon by a year or two, I much prefer the newer version. It's just better put together overall. And honestly, I'd much rather be fighting Hun & Karai, and perhaps a Shredder who's actually threatening. Maybe we could even get the Triceratons or Agent Bishop in there somewhere. Also, why isn't Casey Jones playable?
-
I loved the arcade beat'em up.
-
Ugh, Arkham City was awful. I hate to think what their single button gameplay would do for a turtles game.
-
Challenge Maps should be fun...
-
Woah woah woah. I let this comment go unreplied when it was initially posted because I was all "nah, this is a nerd site, someone better and more eloquent than I will definitely address this" but no one has, so the task is left to me, because no turtles fan should ever go without knowing that there IS a darker, grittier version of TMNT, in the form of the original comics! It may not be Frank Miller's Batman gritty, or even Garfield Fan Fic gritty (I'm still waiting anxiously for Part 3: The Lasagna-ing)- but it's DEFINITELY got more edge than any other version thereafter. But I'm sorry, CASEY MOTHERFUCKING JONES BETTER BE IN THIS GAME IF IT HAPPENS. THAT. IS. ALL.
-
Honestly, even as a child I always thought the idea that a pet rat learning his Master's ninja techniques from observation was a far sillier idea then a ninja master mutated into a man/rat hybrid. As much as purists hate it, the cartoon really was responsible for TMNT's popularity. The comics since then have been nothing more but a bunch of dull gritty "reboots" with no truly memorable villains for the turtles to face. Hopefully, the upcoming IDW book won't kill off Shredder again. A hero is only as good as the villains he faces.
-
This rumor reeks of Nickelodeon-flavored influence since they own the franchise outright, planning on launching a new series later in the year that takes the franchise back to its 80s cartoon roots in the general non-comic-reading public (with appallingly terrible-looking designs), and acting like the 2003 series never happened (they own the series and has sat on the reruns since 2010, still not rerunning them in any capacity). That's not to say I don't think it's a legit story, but considering Nick wants to re-reintroduce the franchise this year, I wouldn't be surprised if they would go this route.
-
Rotting cadaverous crazy cyborg Baxter Stockman from the 2003 cartoon would be acceptable. But I'm with you: Seth Brundle Stockman all the way.
-
I haven't had it crash, but the sound is out of sync and the cut-scenes skip badly, that it's so unpleasant that it is unplayable for me, which is a shame, because I loved the feel and work put into AA. On the bright side, it sounds like they've figured it out and they're running it through internal test right now. At least, according to Sarah May on the Rocksteady forums. And it's why Arkham City beat out Duke Nukem Forever for biggest disappointment of last year for me. But after going through this, I'll be damned if I buy day of release from Rocksteady. Wait until other people see the game is working, then I'll pick it up.
-
The 00s reboot could work. A lot of those people are in university now and beyond, I believe. Plus it's a solid series that actually would work with a darker reimagining. Shredder on that series has to be one of my favorite cartoon villains given that he never suffered from villain atrophication (in that the original Chrell Shredder never became one of those "easily defeatable" jokes. And when that began happening more and more to his minions, they even addressed that in the show itself, like the one where Hun needs to redeem himself to Shredder). And then, fingers crossed, we could get a bonus Miyamoto Usagi appearance if Stan Sakai were to approve it.
-
Yeah; the 2003 cartoon took a LOT from the comics. It would actually be better suited to an Arkham-style game. Adapting the 80s series, though it's iconic, seems to me like what it would be to turn Adam West's Batman into an Arkham Asylum-style game.
-
You know, I never actually had any of these crash issues, myself. Mind, my graphics card then didn't support DX11, either.
-
So, will April O'Neil be this game's Catwoman? Casey Jones as DLC?
-
I'm down with that, big time...
-
I would buy this game immediately buy this game. I really don't care what version they use. If this is true, this game is all sorts of awesome.
-
But will it be CO-OP? Because Well I will get it either way but co-op would be amazing, even if multiplayer and co-op don't work well
-
As you mentioned. "Dark and edgy" and "Turtle Blimp" are pretty much mutually exclusive. I'm a little more forgiving of the van as long as they don't paint a big turtle face on the front and call it a "party wagon." Double standard? Maybe but it's mine and I made it. Having read a healthy portion of the original black and white TMNT trades I can see how a darker story can be told with these characters but I'm not entirely sure how well it would translate to the Arkham City formula. The Stealth Action part is obvious, sneaky stealthy mixed with hacky slashy chop socky. However, realistically you could make a Daredevil or Predator game if that's all you needed. No the other part of the formula was all the nifty gadgetry and yes while in some incarnations Donatello brought his fair share of silly comic book tech to the table...once again I don't know if it mixes well with the Grimdark turtle concept. I think there's the seeds for a good game concept here and if it's not true now I kinda hope the folks at Mirage (or I guess Viacom) and Rocksteady are keeping their ears open on this.
-
Oh my God...I've been saying that the TMNT would benefit from a stealth based game for years. This would be such a fanboy dream come true... I...I...I.........just webbed myself
-
My nerdboner just Pinnochio'd into a death rod that crushed walls and eye gouged my secretary. THE LAWSUIT IS WORTH IT IF THIS NEWS IS TRUE!!!
-
while this is a 90% chance of being false rumor... a New TMNT game based on a new universe taking from the different TMNT Universes could work... 80s toon characters could work on a slightly darker universe... I guess I'm the only one who'd like the Original movie voices for the Turtles (Even Corey Feldman) and Uncle Phil as Shredder... Next TMNT Game MUST HAVE UNCLE PHIL AS SHREDDER.... PERIOD!
-
I want this to be true!
-
Especially when it gets delayed and you've had it preordered way before the original release date.
-
As mch as I love the 80s Turtles, I dunno how ulyou can shoehorn it into even near an Arkham City level of dark. Meanwhile I don't see doing a game on the origknal comics as too many of the characters are different from what most Turtle fans know. Maybe even the 00s reboot toon wouldnt work as most fans of that are still a bit young for Arkham City? hmm.. or maybe not. The 00s Turtles was neat. Eh. I aint holding my breathe eother way.
-
They can't fix it with a patch? Irregardless, there's not much more irritating than a highly anticipated video game that is riddled with bugs.
-
If it is true (please be true!) I hope there's a four player online option!
-
Did they mention the Turtle Party /v/an and include a link to a Rick Astley song?
-
The biggest hole in the rumor is that rocksteady doesn't have the rights to the turtle IP....so we can probably only continue to home
-
I would buy this game so fast. Fingers crossed that it's real and that there's a secret Turtles in Time level.
-
Thinking the same thing. Don't get me wrong, I liked the 80's cartoon at the time, even with already reading the original comics. Yet, an 80's based video game would be aweful. Unless it was based on the Turtles Forever movie. That I could get into.
-
"Master Splinter/Hamato Yoshi" instead of "Master Splinter and Hamato Yoshi"? That would imply it is the Archie/first cartoon series. Didn't the later cartoons return to the original comic's idea that Splinter was Hamato Yoshi's pet rat? Heck, I want to recall that even the first movie (made while the Archie version was popular) had Splinter as the pet rat. If you want to do dark, why would you base it in the Archie version, which is where all the slapstick came from in the first place? (Okay, okay... I know why. The audience they'd be aiming for are the adults who first knew the Turtles from the first animated series.)
-
I want this to be real very very badly.
-
The only version of turtles I will have anything to do with is the gritty Miller-esque ones. Also I would prefer a Battletoads game.
-
So many crash problems, and not just for me. The official AC forum was filled with reports about technical problems, lost save files, games crashing in the middle of scenes, etc. Even when I emailed WBGames Support, I barely got a straight answer, let alone any help whatsoever. Every time I logged in to play, my game would crash. Now, it's been a few weeks and I haven't had many problems, but I still hold my breath whenever I start the game, with the anticipation that it won't work. It's a great game, it just wasn't fixed properly, apparently. It was very disappointing and the biggest headache I've ever experienced when it comes to gaming.
-
It can't be both slapstick and dark? To that I say Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles Forever should be mandatory viewing for any TMNT fan.
-
Needs a small second unit developer established called Bebop just for this project so that you can say the Turtles game was made by Bebop and Rocksteady
-
This would be great considering that the Turtle's video game history has been pretty sketchy.
-
What was wrong with the PC version of AC?
-
I saw that same exact post on a certain imageboard a couple of days ago. So I'm not sure how someone thought it was a real rumour.
-
I heard about this yesterday, and as much grief as Rocksteady put me through with the PC version of Arkham City...I might even pass this up. Which I hate to do because I love TMNT, and to see it in that style would be amazing.
-
I don't think it's true no matter how cool it could be. If they were doing a version of TMNT I find it hard to believe they would pick the 80's cartoon version.
-
Can I be the first to say Hell and YES?
-
I hope it's Baxter Stockman THE FLY! That was my favorite TMNT villain as a child.
