Since we've discussed the state of The Walking Dead ad nauseum at this point, let's get right to discussing this lengthy clip:
• In a word, "Awkward!"
• Man, neither of those two actresses can fake cry worth a damn.
• Say what you will, but that's one solid zombie death right there.
In other news, the WD producers are reportedly trying to get the fantastic John Hawkes of Deadwood fame (among many, many other fine performances) as The Governor, a character who I know almost nothing about except that he's possibly not the nicest guy in the series. Seriously, John Hawkes is one of those actors so fantastic, yet so understated, he instantly improves anything he's on, so this rumor makes me exceedingly excited. I can't imagine Hawkes not being suitable for a role, but if anyone who knows both Hawkes and The Walking Dead comics wants to comment, I'd be interested to hear it. (Via Blastr and MovieWeb)

the governor isn't an intimidating brute. He's a sadistic, weasely, sociopath. He hasn't gained power by being the big burly thug. He's done it by being a sick, crazy bastard. He's not tough. Not in the Danny Trejo sense. In my opinion, I would choose a different actor in From Dusk till Dawn. That John Hawkes fellow.

No, your comments weren't aimed at me or Smashy, They were just shitty trolling that I responded to by being a sarcastic prick. I fell for your bait. And by the way, don't consider that or anything else I've said an apology. I just know when to admit when I'm wrong, something you're obviously incapable of. Because you're always right. You're obviously an expert on...everything? I'm pretty sure calling someone a "cinematic-fast-food-familiar loudmouth" (whatever the fuck that is) is making it way too personal. And nothing is too "heated" for me, okay? I was never looking for a fight, but I can do this all day, especially with someone who throws logic out the window for childish emotion. Now, pointing out the fact that a lot of people agree with me is obviously a logical point because you're the one screaming, "BUT I DON'T WANT DANNY TREJO TO BE THE GOVERNOR!!! EVERYONE MUST AGREE WITH ME!!!" (That was also sarcasm, in case you missed it.) Many people thought of Trejo too (as evidenced by this very website), but by your logic, they're all wrong. And stupid. A bunch of people that agree and are obviously fans of the comic. Brilliant. And, by the way, I'm quite familiar with John Hawkes. In fact, I'm pretty sure I wrote in my initial comment "John Hawkes is a great actor" but, of course, you ignore other people's opinions so... I think Hawkes would be a fine Governor. I think Trejo would be too. It's just a fucking opinion. As you have yours. So, yeah, it's been a slice. See you around.
-
Interesting. Not a single one of my initial comments insulted you or Doctor Smashy. All of them had to do with Trejo and no one else. But the line WAS crossed the moment you decided to make it personal. Or maybe you've forgotten your snide "you don't know shit about the comic. Or acting. Or anything" remarks. Now suddenly it's gotten too heated for you. Funny. But hey, believe me I understand your perspective on this. I mean, if I didn't have anything else to back up my point except repeating "other people think so too!" or hadn't clue one who John Hawkes was, I guess I'd whip up a poignant victimization drama to distract from that. Whatever it takes, right? Here's a recommendation, same as the last one I tried to give you. Try growing a thicker skin and try to take some responsibility for being such a caustic little shit every once in a while. Instead of some half-ass apology like "I PROBABLY shouldn't have wrote it like that". Strong, declarative apologies tend to work better than flimsy ones. And when you're done giving that a shot, maybe you might consider bringing more to the table than "yeah! What they said!". In any case, best of luck to you. It's been a little bit of fun. :)

Dude, what the fuck are you talking about? Have you even read The Walking Dead? There are a lot of people, including a lot of people on here, that thinks Trejo looks exactly like the Governor, including me. Their sizes are different, but that's only one aspect. (Whether or not he's a "good" actor is obvoiusly an opinion we disagree on, fine.) Do you only listen to you own opinions or only those that agree with you? Just look below and you'll see people having an actual discussion about why he would or wouldn't make a good Governor, without being complete high-and-mighty assholes about it. And as I've pointed out several times, he doesn't just look like the guy, he's an intimidating person which would fit the role. I admit that what I wrote was rude, and I probably shouldn't have wrote it like that, but Jesus, man, you call me condescending? Look at your original comments to me and Smashy, you douche. You came on here just to troll, and you know you did it. Then you turn into even more of a prick when you get called out because you somehow think your opinions matter more than others. They don't. So enjoy your life of being right about everything and ignoring any opposition. That'll get you far.

First, Trejo isn't a decent actor. As a matter of fact, he's a terrible actor. His filmography reads like a laundry list of b-movies, just as Rob Schneider's does, all of them roles he's pretty much phoned in. The bruiser, the thug, the bad-ass, the criminal, the villain. That's not acting. That's the same role recycled in film after film after film for a paycheck. (If it hurts your feelings to see Trejo compared to Schneider --because for some puerile reason you think an ex-con should be more immune to criticism than any other lousy actor-- do yourself a favor and don't cry about it on the internet. It'll just end up embarrassing you.) But secondly and most importantly he doesn't even look like The Governor. That I have to explain this-- to the condescending shit-heel that swore I didn't know a thing about the comic-- is high comedy. I mean sure he has something somewhat close to the same facial hair i.e. a fucking moustache. But beyond a lip ferret that's the same color, we both know the similarities end, full stop. The Governor isn't as beefy as Trejo, not by a light year, and Trejo doesn't look at all like the kind of guy that would get his ass kicked by his little brother. So even by your insipid rules, the guy doesn't fit the role. Now if I came across as a dick to you, I suggest you take it as an object lesson in manners. Namely your lack of them. Your original high-and-mighty tone earned you every ounce of vitriol in kind. And then some. Learn to take a little bit of what you dish out.
-
Look, man. I commenting on your ridiculous comparison of Trejo to Rob fucking Scheider. If you honestly think Trejo is that devoid of talent, it's just sad. Plus, I also mentioned his attitude could fit as well. Do you know why Trejo could be scary? Because he is. He's an ex-con who happened to turn out to be a pretty decent actor, but he usually plays scary/intimidating guys for a reason. And, yes, he DOES look like A LOT like the Governor (or, rather, the Governor looks a lot like him), and judging by this thread, a lot of people agree he would be good for the role. You're the one got smug and pedantic over one role he played. Then, you just became a dick. By the way, if you think fans aren't interested (or bitch about) actors not looking like the characters they play, welcome to the Internet.
-
Right, hence my thought that Hawkes is PERFECT. I've always thought that Trejo wasn't right for the Gov. He's too easy. The Gov. is who he is because of his charisma and smarts, NOT because of muscle. That is what makes him so bad ass. Trejo just couldn't pull that off.
-
I throw my hands up in the air sometimes singin': AY YO! DANNY TREJO!
-
Danny Trejo for Gub'nah!
-
Hahaha you're kidding, right? You attempt to call me out for knowing next to nothing "about the comic. Or acting. Or anything"... but your top choice of actor revolves around the vapidly shallow and fatuously-considered idea that Trejo 'looks' like the character in the comic. Golly gee willikers, you're right. That's all a role really needs. The fucking resemblance. All the heavy lifting in casting is pretty much done with that one, right? The Governor has a handlebar moustache... and oh wouldja look at that!.. so does Danny Trejo. High fives all around. Allow me to be the first to say... congratuwelldone, you lazy, cinematic-fast-food-familiar loudmouth. You've guessed the easiest association in the world and are seven kinds of proud that you hit upon it yourself. You most definitely belong in television production.
-
If you're going to judge Trejo from the Spy Kids movies, you don't know anything about him or his career. And if you think a wrestler or Rob Schneider could do a better job as The Governor, you don't know shit about the comic. Or acting. Or anything.
-
Danny Trejo is 867 years old and 4 feet tall. They can do better in casting the Govermor.
-
You mean when he played the same jovial uncle character that he did in Spy Kids: All The Time in the World 4D? :\
-
Trejo is too hammy for the role. You might as well suggest some two-bit professional wrestler. Or Rob fucking Schneider.
-
Anyone who doubts John Hawkes as the Governor NEEDS to see him in (the poorly titled but completely twisted) "Martha Marcy May Marlene" movie. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1441326/ He's goddamn perfect for the role.
-
Personally, I am liking the different direction they have gone from the comics. Ive have read them since the begining. This show is like taking, the detective comics batman, and also having batman as a comic both exist. Same character, same idea.. but a different take. This show is a different take from the same basic elements. If this was just like the comics, I would not care week to week, as I would already know whats hapeninig. Now, I am waiting on pins and needles for each new episode. If you dont like it.. dont watch. People love Chuck and game of therones, I do not... so I dont post about it. ( except I guess just then ) but I still contend that this show is the best thing we have had, in this genre for years on T.V.
-
So another episode of Shane being a jerk, Rick being in denial and Herschell saying "git off my land!" But still better than 90% of what's on t.v.
-
SPOILER: If the novel "Rise of the Governor" is canon then the governor really should be more of an Ed Norton type. A slighter, meeker individual twisted by the recent circumstances.
-
Hawkes would be awesome, anyone doubting that needs to go watch Winters Bone right now. The comparison to Trejo is mainly due to facial hair and I dont think he has the acting chops to be the Gov. He is his own kind of scary, but its just not the right kind.
-
I totally thought the same thing! I'm surprised they aren't, but either way I'm happy to hear they're gonna stick to that plot point, and thus likely the prison too!
-
SPOILERS! SPOILERS! for something or other. I VERY much assumed they would be making the governor Merel's (crossbow redneck dude) redneck, racist, drugged up, one handed brother. Otherwise, why bother including him in the series? Of course, I could be assigning more writing and planning talent than the team actually has...
-
That was crying? I thought that girl was just laughing like Beavis and Butthead. I was expecting her to say "whoa, that was cool" at any moment.
-
Trejo is terrifying in everything he's in. Even his brief cameo on Breaking Bad terrified me and all he did was get decapitated then a turtle blew up.
-
The Governor? The GOVERNOR? They're going there?! Wall full of heads like goldfish or no go!
-
...And there's the reason I lost interest after season one, but still read the comic. Where the hell else can you take Shane, as a character? Everyone's screaming for him to die already, JUST DO IT, A-HOLES.
-
Me too or Edward James Olmos
-
Am I the only one that thinks Shane should have died in the show like in the comic. I flipping hate that guy as both a character and actor.
-
I'm with Shawn (and Doc below). John Hawkes is a great actor, but Trejo has the perfect look and attitude. Hawkes could be intimidating, but Trejo could be downright terrifying.
-
Well..at least they'll eventually be leaving the farm, then. I hope.
-
From the very first time the Gov appeared in the comic, I imagined him as being played by Danny Trejo. Doc
-
Hawkes might be the right actor for the role, but the person who has the look down pat is Danny Trejo. He could definitely pull off the utter horribleness of the character as well as the physical representation.
-
I agree. Any TV version of the Governor will, I'm sure, be toned down from what's portrayed in the comic. That said, I could totally see Hawkes as the character.
-
All I can say is that The Governor is seriously disturbing. This show isn't nearly as fucked as the comic.
