I think its just the characters that screw/potentially will screw like monkeys that are aged up, as to avoid that nasty pedophile vibe.
-
It's Simon Day!
-
I don't know. They're only really necessary once Bran goes off to find the crow beyond the wall. (I can't see Bran and Hodor making the trip alone) So I suppose they could just come in late. And, yes, I am pretty sure Rose Leslie is 100% official.
-
Brother Numsie!
-
I'm worried too about the Reeds being cut. How would that plot line even work without them!? And has Rose Leslie been confirmed as Ygritte?
-
it's his title. CHARACTER BACKGROUND SPOILERS: He used to be a smuggler, and while his lord's castle was being besieged, he smuggled onions and other foodstuffs into the castle to allow the men inside to hold out until help arrived. He was knighted for this(although his lord took the first joint from each finger on one of his hands for the illegal smuggling beforehand), and took a ship with an onion on its sail as a sigil.

if you're looking for "fun", you're on the wrong channel. It's an HBO drama, it's going to be gritty, it's going to be ugly, it's going to be dreary, it's going to be messy, but it's going to hook you into its world and characters. It's a show you actually have to pay attention to in order to follow. It's not a procedural crime drama where you can throw it on in the background and follow along perfectly. It's a thinking show.
-
it's a crapsack world with an incredibly political story that doesn't have to be completely action-packed to be interesting. It's a character drama set in medieval times. It doesn't hold your hand. It treats you like an adult and lets you figure out what's going on. It's not a hero's journey. It's a real world with real characters. The real world is pretty dreary. The story might not be a troperiffic "hero saves the world" story, but it's not even close to dull. Not CLOSE.
-
Davos Seaworth was a smuggler who was knighted after he used his smuggling skills to deliver food - onions - during a siege.
-
Wait, hold up. I don't follow this series, so this is an actual question: Is Davos a Final Fantasy reference of some sort, or is "Onion Knight" an actual thing?
-
You have to give folks who cast for this show credit. If you cracked open one of Martin's books, everyone of these actors fits the part, especially Gwendoline as the Maid of Tarth.
-
I think you just described The Goon.
-
I also always picture her as a brunette but I'm 90% sure shes a blonde in the books.
-
He is well cast in that role, but he is described differently in the books. Tywin Lannister is supposed to be thicker and more bald than that. But that's kinda superfluous anyway
-
Aside from having pictured her as a brunette instead of a blond, this is the kind of person I had in mind when reading her chapters.
-
Ugh. This chick is not hot at all. She looks like a dude. So, well done.
-
Thinner and better looking than I pictured her, but TV always hires the pretty actors/actresses.
-
Physically, she's not exactly as I pictured. That doesn't matter. That expression...she *is* Brienne.
-
The way she was described...broad, muscular, homely...I couldn't help but picture Chyna from the WWE...almost ruined the damn book for me. I like HBO's version better, but she could be a bit uglier.
-
i always pictured her as the woman who played lavernia from malcolm in the middle this chicks too pretty
-
She's not as homely as I understood Brienne to be, from her description in the books. However, I was very worried when I saw the photo of the actress they cast because I thought she was far too pretty for the role. All things considered, this works pretty well. She could still stand a little more ugly makeup or something though. At least some false teeth that are too big and/or crooked or something.
-
This makes me so happy. I've been waiting to see a lady knight like her ever since I was a little girl. Can't wait to see her in action!
-
Yeah, you'll meet her in Clash of Kings. She's awesome.
-
*cough* Daenerys *cough*
-
No, I completely agree with you. I thought the show was amazing, as well. When I first heard about the books, the plot didn't seem like it would interest me. But after watching the show, I, too, flew through the books.
-
i saw two episodes of the show before i started reading the books. i loved it so much that i've flown through all 5 and i can't wait for the sixth! it's one of the best novel series i've ever read, and the show is simply one of the best shows on television. so there.
-
As long as she is bigger than Jamie and Renly I am happy. Though I imagined her more as a female bodybuilder. Preferably with backne.
-
All the characters have been aged up in the show. Ned and Robert, in the books, are in their mid-thirties. In the show? Not so much.
-
Looking through all of the pictures, it looks to me (and maybe I'm crazy) as though the Lannisters (Cersei and Tyrion) are drifting a little towards the dirty blonde side. Someone buy HBO a bottle of bleach. And Melisandre is slightly less red than I was led to believe she should be. And where the fuck are the pictures of Rose Leslie as motherfucking Ygritte?! Gawd muthafucking damnit. Plus it sounds like they are most likely cutting Jojen and Meera Reed entirely. So season 3 and beyond can't possibly be good without the Reeds.
-
Tell me about it.
-
That's the way I feel about Davos "The Onion Knight" Seaworth.
-
I think Charles Dance is probably the best casting choice on the show bar far, even better than the Dinklage. But I think that is the nature of adaptions, there will always be elements or characters that you imagined differently.
-
According to her IMDB Gwendoline Christie is 6' 3" so I think that's tall enough.
-
COUGHBreaking BadCOUGH
-
Wait until you see her act first though.
-
If I had a quater for everytime I've said that...we'll I coulda bought my way back into the SCA!!
-
Thank you!
-
Sardo Numspa, anyone?
-
No one but Dinklage could be Tyrion. His portrayal made me go get the books.
-
Yes each season is based off a different book. Spoiler (I guess) Brienne was introduced in the second book.
-
I thought they did a good job with Tywin. I think Charles Dance is perfect for the role from what I have seen of him.
-
I actually saw the show before I read the books. The show made me want to read them to flesh out the story.
-
Yeah, that makes sense.
-
To be fair, I really thought they'd "hot her up" even more than they did. Actually really glad to see this.
-
I'm glad I'm not the only one. I pictured Brienne as being about 19 or 20, and this woman (while they've got the tough-and-homely thing down) looks about 10 years too old.
-
Not by a long shot. Finding Bigfoot on Animal Planet is more fun than this show.
-
Can someone help me out here? Is each season based off each individual book? I've read the first book and am just about to start Clash of Kings but I'm not sure if I've been introduced to this character yet.
-
Man the casting people for GoT are really spot on. The only two characters who look nothing the way I imagined them are John Snow and Tywin Lannister. Everyone else is pretty much spot on.
-
hrm. I always imagined Brienne as a) taller, b) lumbering and heavy-set, though strangely flat-chested (didn't Jaime mock her for that a few times?), and - most important to how I imagined her from the books - c) having a broad (shovel?) face with overlarge teeth. Overall, I always imagined her being a bit more Neanderthal than here, where she looks totally badass. But I know nothing.
-
Best fucking show on tv.
-
Am I alone in thinking that this show is garbage? Maybe I need to read the books to "get" it or something, because I dont see the big deal. Sure the production values are great and the acting is good, but I just dont give a crap about ANYTHING or ANYONE. The story is dull dull dull and everything is too freaking dreary.
-
Oh what the hell...FAP FAP FAP...
-
They got the body right but I always pictured her with a face like Rosanne Barr... I wouldn't have nailed the Brienne from the books, but I'd do dirty things to this one.
-
I dunno if it's the magic of make-up or that she really do look like that, but this is one of the best casting decisions ever pulled. Kinda reminded me of the first Harry Potter and how I imagined Dumbledore looked and behaved was portrayed VERY well on screen, just how I imagined him to be.
-
i know i'm not supposed to get a boner from the wench, but i kind of got a boner.
-
I am... not so good at picturing people in books the way everyone else does, I guess. None of them look like I'd pictured them. :P
-
That's just perfect. Wow.
-
I think Brienne looks perfect. Tyrion isn't as ugly as he's portrayed in the books either, but who other than Dinklage do we want playing him? Like Davos a lot too.
-
psh, too hot.
-
Thoughtful and intelligent comment about Game of Thrones casting.
-
Hm she's pretty good, but I always imagined Brienne to be a bit younger. I dunno why because I can't remember anyone mentioning how old she was but I thought she was more Renly's age and the way people treat her as being naive (on top of being a woman and ugly). Still this is probably the best they'll ever do, I just hope she's better at acting than bloody Alfie Allen who is so unmemorable as Theon.
-
She looks like she could kick ass and has seen a few battles in her time. It's perfect. The background makes me think it's Renly's tent. That's a scene I really hope doesn't look stupid on the small screen. I have the utmost faith in the show to not make it look horrible, but it's nothing like anything they have shown before...
-
Needs moar rainbow.
-
I don't know. I kind of pictured her a little more homely.
-
I think there was a lot of trepidation that they wouldn't do Brienne justice, I'm glad to see I worried for nothing.
-
....This is glorious.
-
Oh my. She...She's perfect.
