Blasphemy!
-
Am I the only person who can't stand the even look at Pauley WhatsHerStupidFace?
-
Yeah, he looks baked to me.
-
I think Warren Ellis said somewhere that he created the Authority as villains. They just happened to fight people who were bigger villains than themselves. So the Authority aren't really "heroes that kill." They're just bastards. That's why they were awesome (very briefly, Millar is kind of a hack).
-
oh good. they've made superman retarded. or red kryptonite has caused an ass to grow on his chin. or its patrick warburton.
-
Amen, brother! I hate that show with the blazing heat of a thousand suns. I despise just about every character.
-
The problem is in part finding a story they can tell in 75 minutes or so and do it justice. They were really pushing it with All Star Superman and while it is a great animated movie they had to cut out a ton of awesomeness and condense other things in order to meet that time frame. This story was just one issue of Superman so it is ideal for them to make it into a short animated movie.
-
The first twelve issues, the Warren Ellis Bryan Hitch issues, were awesome. But Mark Millar's take on it was terrible. Millar is a hack.
-
fascinating - so there's an inverse relationship between testicle size and chin size....
-
My copy of Action Comics 775 is buried somewhere. I just went to DC's iPad app to download the issue. Aaaand it's not available. Boo!
-
Jesus Christ, Superman needs to lay off the steroids, look at that jaw!
-
So like the Authority team the US government tried to replace the real Authority with in one story?
-
Who put Stan Smith in a Superman costume?
-
Is Gibbs tapping some Abby on the side?
-
I AM SUPERTACUS!!!
-
I don't want to live in a world where we criticize the insertion of Pauley Perette images into anything. It's just morally wrong.
-
That's where he stores all of his all-spark infused Energony goodness.
-
By the numbers procedural. Mark Harmon's also kind of badass. Most shows end up getting shown on every channel for a while after syndication rights get worked out, particularly through NBC-Universal. They have an extra channel now that you need a premium choice package just to watch on Directv. And. It is all. Reruns.
-
They already gave Mark Waid the finger with Doom, DC isn't THAT eager for a PR backlash. Besides, with the Christian undertones and the longer storyline, it just doesn't seem like a natural fit for the animated, 70 minute treatment.
-
Not really, the characterization was quite a bit different. The Authority were still good guys, just more brutal. The Elite were superpowered jerks based on every idiot in high school who only likes Wolverine, Venom, and the Punisher (yet still never read their comics because Jackass was on)
-
Oh, thank gog - I was terribly worried they wouldn't find just the right voice for Lois Lane. Now all they need to do is find some random guy to voice Manchester Black. Or I guess they could let Jack Black do it. Hell, why not, he's named Black, whatever. Just don't fuck up Lois.
-
yeah, I remember when Wizard had to eat shit when this issue came out. Worthless rag.
-
Why does Superman have Jay Leno's butt-chin?
-
Well Mark Harmon did voice Superman in the Justice League movie Crisis on Two Earth so if Gibbs can be Superman then I guess its ok for Abby to be Lois Lane
-
While we're on the subject can someone explain the popularity of NCIS to me. I really want to understand this show because it appears to come on every friggin station at all times of the day!
-
I find her annoying and why is Stan Smith playing Superman?
-
man, he looks so very bored.
-
Dude, Supes looks like Stan Smith from American dad
-
There are SO many other good DC stories to tell... What about the mega-event CRISIS (and not the Crisis on Two Earths thing which was meant to bridge JL and JLU)? What about Terry Dodson secret agent Wonder Woman - that has a true, distinct visual style to emulate. I'm sure there are countless others.
-
If they want to do a "The Authority is bad" storyline, why don't they just do Kingdom Come, already?
-
Superman should follow Power Girls' example and cover it up, then.
-
what about insertions??
-
Awesome news! But...asschin...
-
That is, quite possibly, the worst professionally drawn rendition of Superman's head I've ever seen. Seriously.
-
Joke about inserting and Pauley Perrette goes here
-
So, Superman is also the Crimson Chin it would seem.
-
On the one hand, "Superman vs. The Elite" is a pretty terrible title. But beyond that, this is a pretty good choice for a direct-to-DVD adaptation. Apart from being both action-filled and insightful to the character of Superman, it's a 40-page issue. Whenever DC tries to adapt a mini-series (most notably, New Frontier), a lot has to get cut to fit a 75-minute runtime. But a double-sized issue with multiple characters will fill out that time nicely.
-
that's not a chin. that's his lower lip's ass
-
Once again, no more entries for the FFF survey after 11:59PM GMT today. That's 4pm PST, 6PM CST, 7PM EST. Please enter now if you have not already. Details are on last week's FFF.
-
Yeah, there aren't many character designers who can pull off the "giant chin" look on characters well. Only one I can think of is Derrick Wyatt.
-
Yeah, Wizard placed the comic at #1 on their list of the Top 10 Comics of the Past Decade (though I forget what year they did the article). Ironically, an issue of The Authority was on that list as well...The issue in which the beat up a team of villains directly inspired by The Avengers. It's a funny old world, sometimes. =P
-
That being said, I should point out in fairness that The Authority was a critically-acclaimed comic, incredibly popular, & pretty good in my opinion (at least around the early '00s) - they pretty much stood out amongst that glut - but yeah, the general style of these comics & "heroes" is more what they go after here, & it could indeed get annoying.
-
I still remember Wizard magazine being so lustful over how awesome the Authority was, going so far as to say they'd easily beat any other super-team, especially the JLA, in a fight...then Superman single-handidly takes the Elite down with ease and Wizard has to ackowledge how wrong they were. To me, the real impact was years later when Manchester Black puts Supes through hell with multiple enemies and making him believe Black murdered Lois Lane but Superman still won't kill Black. "You...this isn't an act, is it? You...you really do think this way. Bloody hell, I didn't think someone like you could exist?" Screw Morrison, Action #775 is THE essence of Superman in one single issue.
-
Great comic. But one ugly ass chin.
-
I understand that story is quite highly regarded, I thought it was absolutely terrible.
-
Because he <S>nicked</S> borrowed it from The Tick?
-
I would love to see this, I detested the glut of anti-heroes of the late '90s onwards, but...why does Supes look like Frankestein's monster?
-
Because the Elite are DC characters, and the story this is based on involves them, not the Authority.
-
When did Superman steal Animated Sentinel Prime's chin?
-
And hey, since they ported the Authority in the DCnU, they can just make a straight application of the characters now instead of calling them the Elite! {g}
-
<b>F***. AND. YES.</b> That is one of my favorite comic book stories of the '00s-forward (if not all time), & already I am goddamn psyched to see it in action!! Granted, I was hoping it would one day get made into an actual feature film for theaters, but this is damn good enough!! Also, I think the general themes go just a bit deeper than "The Authority is bad". I think it's also a commentary on the American public's views on crime & terrorism in recent years & how to deal with them, & if the modern world really does need a Superman in several areas. Basically, it's kind of like a bit of "Grounded", if "Grounded" was the complete opposite of the flaming, pretentious, urine-soaked, insulting turd it was.
-
I think Pauley Perrette's disembodied head would make a great character. Maybe it could fly around and spit fireballs at things, like the Zombie Nation head.
