what i want is the continuation of the series through the manga plotline not the godamn remake of episodes 1-26 through 3 wasted movies ass this sucks
When we last saw the Berserk anime movie -- which was only a week ago -- it wasn't looking particularly berserk. Happily, Tom M. sent me this new clip that has a touch of the series' trademark carnage, which will hopefully be enough to satiate you berserk Berserk fans. I admit, I think the blood on the camera lens is a nice touch. But if they're going to keep it on the camera, things are going to be mighty difficult to see by the end of the movie.
More links from around the web!
Multiple Berserk movies? YES FUCKING PLEASE. I've watched Berserk more times than I'd care to admit and I've devoured the manga greedily with each passing month. I've been waiting a LOOOONNNNGGG time for something to come up about these movies. Thanks, Rob. You've made my inner anime fanboy so very happy with this news.
Best thing about Berserk (aside from the quality english voice acting on the dvds) was the deleted scenes from volume 2.
The deleted scenes on the other discs are good. But Disc 2 is where it's at.
It makes me laugh everytime.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v... for disc 2
http://www.youtube.com/results... for all of the outtakes.
I love it when voice actors have fun and then we get to see the results :D
I think they've nailed Gatsu pretty well. I agree that they need to do a lot of work on the rendering, the cgi looks very basic. It actually seems almost as jarring as the first Appleseed cgi. The sound track needs more Forces. I'm still looking forward to seeing this.
His name is Guts, not Gatsu. The only reason people think that's the name is because of the low level of phonemes in the Japanese language.
It's hard to respect a franchise that takes its independent female love interest and rapes her till she is mentally fragile.
Sadly, such Women in Refrigerator Moments are common in manga. Then again, all three of the main characters in Berserk were subject to rape. Guts was raped as a child. Well, Griffith was more prostitution. And most of the rest of the band of the Hawk was outright murdered in the Eclipse, so that Caska even got away was something. Though it does suck for Casca as a character, rape and such abuse is pretty common in the setting of the story.
Maybe this current arc which is supposedly a quest to heal her will finally fix that shit. There's been many hints that badass original recipe caska is still in there.
Yup, new chapter hit a few days ago, waiting for an English version.
[SPOILERS MAYBE IF YOU HAVNT BEEN READING THE MANGA!!]Far as I know Guts and a bunch of mermaids are still fighting a giant squid/whale thing and still on his way to restoring Caska to her original self.
It looks good but I'd REALLY just rather they get on with where the Berserk series left off. I'm sure that's what a lot of fans have been waiting to pick up on.
Maybe they are just trying to revitalize interest and bring in new fans but, going by the lighting and colorfulness of the trailer, this might be a considerably less gritty / haunting version.
The berserk anime series left out things which became absolutely crucial to the story later - namely Puck and the Skull Knight. They'd have to make late appearances or have their roles fulfilled by shitty made-for-TV characters, and either way wouldn't serve the story nearly as well.
That was my big problem with the series. That they left out the (Slug) Count and Guts second Meeting with the God Hand, befor starting the Golden Age flashback. Even worseThat they had to turn Wyald and the Black Dogs into a bunch of mooks, witch didn't help it either. At least they have a chance to do it right this time.
What we've seen from the movie is lighter and more colorful than I'd expect, but maybe they're going for an intentional contrast between the Golden Age arc and what happens after the Eclipse. It'd be great if the colors got darker to match the tone of the series.
you could say the same about the show. ep 1 is dark as it gets but after that its pretty light all things considered. obviously there's a point where things begin going to shyte namely when guts decides to leave the hawks things def. take a turn for the worse and we see a more wintery dark tone. i just want to be able to see this at some point in north america, and by at some point i mean as soon as humanly possible because we've been waiting since episode 25 for more!
Makes sense to me! The Golden Age's art was a lot more open and airy, so it seems pretty natural to depict it with bright beautiful colors.
and I mean, shit gets dark enough later, this should be enjoyed while it lasts.
I think it looks promising - at least the movie seems to have an animation budget of more than five dollars. They're gonna need to make a lot of movies if they're going to tell the whole story, but there's no way some of the stuff that happens in the manga would make it past TV sensors.
Update: I just read that they are planning to adapt the entire manga series as movies. This is going to take a very long time...
Actually the three movies they have planned will only cover the golden age arc from the comics (the same story arc as the tv series). If those three do well then they plan to continue adapting more of the story.
Is the sound completely jacked up for anyone else or is it just me?
Sounds like a 56k modem
The fight scenes in 3d looked damn static to me. I'm not really a fan of this new development in anime productions.
Some scenes they look good, fantastic even. Some scenes they look.. eh.. in-game cutscene-ish.
Yeah, the more I see of this "Cell-G (?)" stuff the more it's starting to damper my enthusiasm for this film. I'll still see it of course, but I'm kinda pining for the mid-budget late 90's style animation of the first adaptation. Shame this wasn't more along the lines (quality wise) of Hellsing Ultimate.
The first 15 or so (before the budget got cut) episodes of Berserk were some of the best animated episodes of any anime I have ever watched (and sadly I've watched a lot of anime).
As for the Cell-Shading I personally can't stand it, I think it tends to make some of the action look sloppy, but I'll admit I have a bias because it ruined Megaman X7 (among other things) and I shall never forgive it for that.
Berserk has one of the most emotional and horrific endings in all of anime...and I loved it. Really looking forward to seeing this.
And that's only the ending of the first arc of the comic. The GOOD part of our main character's life . After that, the shit REALLY hits the fan.
Eh. All depends how it is done and incorporated. In the heat of battle like that, switching to the pov a guy getting murdered like all the others around him seems like a valid choice for cinematography.
Maybe this was made to drum up interest in a second season of the show? Wishful thinking? Yup!
