The Walking Dead Elects Its Governor

?From Deadline:

David Morrissey (State Of Play) has landed one of the most anticipated roles on AMC’s The Walking Dead.
The British actor is set to join the megahit zombie drama as a new
series regular in Season 3, playing The Governor, a popular character
from Robert Kirkman’s graphic novel that serves as the basis for the AMC
series. The Governor is the leader of Woodbury, a small settlement of
survivors, and becomes the chief antagonist for The Walking Dead‘s lead Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and his group.

Nerds will likely best know Morrissey best as The Other Doctor in the Doctor Who special The Next Doctor. While I’m crushed that the awesome John Hawkes won’t be playing the role, and while Morrissey seems an odd choice — he looks oddly cherubic compared to how the Governor is drawn in the comic — I’m not particularly worried about this. Morrissey is an excellent actor (even if he sometimes appears in crap), and if The Walking Dead producers cast him as the series’ biggest non-zombie antagonist, I’m going to assume they know what they’re doing. I guess we’ll find out whenever season 3 rolls around.
