the whole 'hai' thing is starting to get really gay. Not that being gay has any negative connotations. Just saying. You say it a lot and you're like. what? a 30 something year old dude? Maybe should stop
More links from around the web!
If he rescues a kid named Roy Harper from a heroin dealer in one of the shows, I'm gonna laugh my ass off.
"Arrow"? ARROW?! That was his fucking NAME, goddammit!
That's like calling any of the Superman Movies, "Fly Fast Man", or the first X-Men movie "Men in Tights"! Just, how many retards did they actually let into the focus group ANYWAY?! ARGH!
-storms out of the office, shoves intern out of the way, scatter papers-
What kind of idot frels the name Green Arrow is too lng or needs to be shortened to seem cooler or 'edgy'. Lemme guess. They were afraid of association with the recent bomb of Green Lantern in thearters? Yeah. Cause the color green was the problem with that film. Sounds like the same logic that made John Carter of Mars to just John Carter because Mars Needs Moms bombed.
After The Avengers, this is going to look to all the non-comic fans like CW is trying to rip off Hawkeye, poorly.
I bet the focus group also decided they didn't like Ollie as a raging liberal, so he's been made more moderate so as to appeal to a wider audience.
Not to mention that Smallville tended to fall on the more conservative/religious side of things (like turning Darkseid and his followers into a weird satanic cult)... so I wouldn't put it past the CW to mince his political views.
First, the bow is in the background, behind him. But still, it does look to be too small for a real bow. But then, since this is just a promo pic he was probably given whatever prop bow was available.
Isn't GAs bow strong enough to use as an emergency weapon too? seems I've seen that in cartoons. if that's true a large bow would be more useful.
I've been smacked in the face with a bow before - the non-modern kind - they can break noses and cause black eyes, and that was just a glancing blow, however the date was over as far as I was concerned.
Doesn't Green Arrow wear a doofy hat in the comics, not a hood? If they're scared that will look too stupid in live action, why not compromise and give him an awesome green fedora? In fact it doesn't even need to be green, since they took the colour out of the guy's name anyway. And if they want to hide his face so much why not just give him no face? Also ditch the bow. And name him The Question. Give me my Question TV series, bastards
Get Jeffrey Combs to do the voice when he's got the faceless mask on and I am on board with this project.
Can't have him wear a "hat" since it's set post Kennedy. According to "marketing research" (aka a crazy person asked their cat and got paid for it) Americans won't tolerate protagonists wearing hats in any timeframe post Kennedy, if they set it in the '40s - no problem, but it's set in the modern era so it's a no go hence they can't have a "The Question" series no matter how joyous it would be.
Man these Assassin Creed 3 posters and teases just keep getting better and better!
well on the plus side, I can still recognize him as green arrow, but...
I miss the robin hood hat!
About the bow....that actually looks like a pretty normal/standard recurve bow. I HATED how Smallville Ollie was always using a compound bow. HATED. IT. In the comics,Ollies use of the standard recurve or longbow makes him that much more of a badass....he even gives Connor and Roy crap when they use compound bows.
Ok...I take that back. After looking at the enlarged pic,GODDAMN that bow is TINY. Thats nowhere near long enough.....
I can't wait for the inevitable league episode where he meets man, man, man, woman, lantern, -borg, & -sh.
Shit. And I thought the DCnU was dark and gritty.
wait.. those fuckers really took the Green out of Green Arrow and are now calling it just Arrow?!
What the hell is wrong with this world? Why are the idiots the ones in charge of everything? argh
He needs more arrows. Just because the show's name is singular, does not mean he needs less arrows in his quiver than I can count on one hand.
Well to be fair, if you're a vigilante you would want to conceal your face. It's just about the only context where a hood like that works, but unfortunately we (the viewers) have been conditioned to (rightfully) think people wearing hoods* are cretins.
"it's raining" is about the only excuse we should accept
Looks better than he did on Crapville, and at least it looks like he has a goatee (albeit just because he forgot to shave for a week).
It took me far too long to realise that that wasn't a teaser for a suprise return of BBC's Robin Hood.
<quote>Frankly, I find the name change far less confusing than why they gave Ollie here a bow meant for a 4-year-old. </quote>Have you tried buying a bow these days? Everything's a high-tech compound composite bow that looks like a toy.
They can't have someone made a real bow for the show, all that money and skilled labor making props and no one can manage a bow? Fuck if it means helping this show not suck I'll make the damn thing for free.
I don't think green arrow necessarily buys off the shelf tho. I don't know much about him, but I would guess either some high tech whatsit or some old family heirloom. either way I don't think they should use whatever real people are using.
Also it's in the background not foreground as it first appears so scale is an issue
Even allowing for point of view distortion, that's still a small bow. Shortbows aren't exactly unheard of, but as far as I know, Ollie's always been a longbow kind of guy.
And if all you're finding is high-tech compounds, you're just not looking in the right places. ;) Try 3 Rivers Archery - http://www.3riversarchery.com/
That may be true, but the bow in the picture looks like a genuine toy boy, not only because of the simplicity of the design, but also because it seems "very" small in "the Arrow's" hand. I think the latter is the main griping point, outside of the douchery that is "the Green Arrow stole my son's toy bow, what the hell?"
Recurve bows are small - we're not talking long bow here - but even there I think what we're seeing is likely just a visual mockup bow they had for the promo shot and probably not anything usable. Understanding that even if the character has only a single bow in the show it will likely be represented by a dozen or so props.
