• One more Avengers clip? Oh, why not. This time it's part of the scene where Black Widow goes to pick up Bruce Banner. The scene is actually pretty awkward, but the bit where Banner trolls Widow at the end makes up for it.
• Meanwhile, Avengers is tracking 97% on Rotten Tomatoes with 29 reviews in, including ones by Variety, Associated Press and the Hollywood Reporter. It's still a bit early, but I'd say that's a very good sign. I kind of feel bad for the one lady who gave the "rotten" review, though. (Via FilmDrunk)
• And in excellent-actors-taking-supporting-roles-in-Marvel-movies news, Guy Pearce will play Aldrich Killian in Iron Man 3, who is the dude who invents the nanotechnology that ends up becoming Tony Stark's Extremis armor. I haven't read the comic, so I don't know if Killian is good or bad or even has that much to do. Since Ben Kingsley is already the main villain, I can't help but feel Pearce is a bit overqualified for the role, much like Sam Rockwell was in Iron Man 2. Oh well, if Pearce is fine with it, so am I -- having an overabundance of talent isn't going to hurt the movie, that's for sure. (Via Blastr)
Hulk was Amazing. They all got good scenes and worked well together without any scenes that had me sitting there going 'really? that's what you went with?'. It was more, really? that was awesome!
Only thing it lacked was a wolverine and spiderman cameo sadly :(
I'm surprised that with all the clips that have been released, all the teasers, all the trailers that someone hasn't snipped them all together and made a rough but short draft of the movie.
Yesterday's Empire gave it 4 stars, which I was admittedly a little disappointed by since they gave Avatar 5 stars a few years back. I'm also a little disappointed that we have to keep calling it Avengers Assemble over here. I was also a little disappointed by the fact that Hawkeye looks nothing like Hawkeye. I am very upset that I can't be more pumped for this movie. Also, should I see Cabin in the Woods? I've heard mixed things.
If you are a horror movie junky, definitely go see it. You will most likely find much to enjoy. My girlfriend also enjoyed it, though many references went over her head.
Reports are out that Jessica Chastain has been cast in Iron Man 3. That's good, as she's a good actress, but she's described as a "sexy scientist who holds her own against Tony." Blergh.
So she's probably playing Maya Hansen then, the co-creator of Extremis (along with Killian). Can't imagine how big Guy Pierce's role'll be considering his character commits suicide within a few pages of the first issue...
Maybe he'll be an Obi Wan-like ghost mentor for Tony, or a ghost in the shell. Hopefully not the latter, as Pierce may not have the body for cyberpunk bondage gear.
Don't fret, when they say, "holds her own against TOny", it probably means she'll be holding up the hem of her sexy scientist pencil skirt while they have furtive sex in a supply closet.
I hope I don´t get disappointed. Every time a Marvel movie is out it gets incredibly high reviews (Thor, Captain America) but end up being mediocre movies.
"Having an overabundance of talent isn't going to hurt the movie", I couldn't help but think of Ben Kingsley's long and storied "doing it for the money" side of his career in noting that having an overabundance of talent rarely helps a movie, as well.
You know, I REALLY hope we get more Sam Rockwell in a Marvel film someday. Justin Hammer's a villain who shouldn't be limited to just one Iron Man film.
Would love to see cameos in other Marvel flicks, or at the very least Hammer Industries doing stuff. The advantage of amoral corporations is that you don't need to involve the CEO in every single role.
Sam Rockwell's the strongest point for almost any movie he's in. If Iron Man 2 hadn't been so rushed and Favreau dumped on so much during filming it would have been more than just passable. There's nothing in there that broke the film, just a whole lot that wasn't mixed in properly.
Well, bear in mind that she is just writing her own opinion. Don't feel sorry for her, feel sorry for anyone who is under her command to follow her opinion? Though I doubt anyone like that exists. To me, it seems pointless to harass critics for their opinions, especially when it comes to a film like this one, where the budget for the film, the advertising, and your own love of the source material is more powerful than any negative review. If anyone gives credence to a critic's take on it, especially if it's just "one" bad review in a sea of them, is just a sign that they probably don't give two shits about blockbusters, superheroes, or both.
I had no idea the reviews were out already. I ignored the 28 positive reviews and read the one negative one. (I do the same thing at Amazon.) It's not really all that negative. Even the things she complains about (the Iron Man quips and the fast-forward pace and the Transformer reference) seem like things that would negatively effect the movie. I wasn't expecting a perfect movie anyway.
I can't feel sorry for the reviewer, but for the hundreds of people who'll reply to her review with rage.
I do find of feel bad for in that- hoping someone dies for not liking a movie or writing a bad review is a bit extreme (although if you cut me off in traffic- if murder was legal you'd be in a ditch)..
But even worse is based on the comments-- its looks like she has been editing her review after she posted it (pulling out misspellings and the like)-- and thats even more unprofessional...
Disagree - I'm pretty sure they were pushing her for "functional sociopath" performance which she pulls off astoundingly realistic. Pleasant but detached - it's the detachment you're reacting negatively to and it's also why happy people scare meFar better than the incredibly unrealistic performance in Dexter, but then Dexter plays to popular stereotypes with no basis in reality.
I've liked her in Ghost World, Lost in Translation and other movies, but these days she seems happy to just act as eye candy in all her movies. But hey, I ain't complaining.
I've liked Scarlett Johansson in other movies, but she's just completely wrong in this role. She doesn't have enough presence, no matter how hard they try (based on what I've seen, anyway).
I remember when Emily Blunt was linked to the role. She would have been perfect as Black Widow, but whatever.
The bad reviews for Avengers thus far have been really digging to find negative things they can point to - aside from personal preference. That it could have had "more" plot and character development isn't really a legit complaint in my view so much as asking for more.
Dear Sir,Regarding your ill-timed spoiler I must express my distaste. I recommend fornication for yourself and the equine upon which you arrived. As always, I remain,Yours Very Truly,UrQuan, Esq.
See now this is where the ability to ignore information can be both useful and rewarding. If only we could get people to transfer what they apply everyday in their politics to spoilers instead.
