I'm actually cool with it. If you really want to see an entire movie in the trailers/commercials, then I would suggest The Dictator.
Thanks to this new international trailer, which pretty much recaps the entire goddamn movie in three minutes. Seriously, if you're interested in watching Prometheus, I'd give this thing a miss, because it clearly runs from the movie's start to finish. I'm sure there are some surprises left, like maybe why Idris Elba has that ridiculous accent, but there probably aren't many. Sigh. (Via Twitch)
More links from around the web!
I'm thinking of giving this a miss at the cinema. I will not pay to fund these fucking 3D films.
I'd sooner take a sledgehammer to ever Barco 3D projector throughout the UK and smash them up and stick 35mm and 70mm projectors where they rightful belong.
I might just consider buying this Alien Prometheus on bluray 2D only.
Fuck digital cinema fuck Barco 3D projectors Fuck IMAX 3D Fuck RealD 3D and Fuck All 3D! Its fucking FAD!!
Am I the only one not spoiled here? It has everything I expected it would have. I mean what...you had no freaking clue whatsoever they would find alien things that infected them? It was in the first freaking trailer! Everything in the first teaser is expanded here. So what, you see more footage instead of guessing. Spoilers my ass. If you saw the international teaser before this, you saw the freaking PILOT clear as day vs. the quick shot of him here.
I agree! You all really think Ridley Scott is going to feed you all the best scenes and surprises in the trailers? I would say the man knows exactly what he is doing. If anything, all of the teaser/trailer footage exists to get everyone comfortable with the premise so we don't get lost in the theatre. This has been billed as a "big ideas" story from the beginning. Don't worry, this movie will deliver and scare the crap out of you in the process!
I have my own theories on what this movie is about, and it obviously LOOSELY ties into the Aliens universe, Space jockeys are involved, Alien "viruses" (vehicle for infection) that may or may not turn you into "something else" MANY nods to Alien/Aliens/Alien 3, "Get this thing out of me!" being one of them. YES I probably will go to the cinema to see this, I'll make my mind up properly then, unless something comes out that changes my perceptions of the film...
Does anyone else think this is an Alien origin story? Like crew members get infected with something that turns them into the xenomorphs? 'Cause that's kinda when I'm gettin from this.
This looks awesome and scary. I was never scared of the original alien movies but this looks like it may scare me a bit.
I think what has happened is that the leaked screenplay is indeed the actual screenplay (or something so close that it contains all the major plot points) and now they're simply trying to keep people interested with the wow factor of the effects.
no i agree, this was on before Avengers and it goes way beyond the first act and definitely contains pretty severe spoilers.
I bet the twist is a full frontal scene by Fassbender. And when I say bet, I really mean wish upon a star
I'm kinda pissed about this trailer, I was watching TV last night and this came on, usually I look away or change the channel but I was with guests and I was scared they might think I was a mental case so I watched it. Please I beg anyone on the fence to not watch it, it's just too much.
Everything is spelled out SPOILERS Noomi Rapeface has the Ripley role, there are parasite things that look like facehuger tenticle things that I guess will infect someone, I think I saw a big white tail/tenticle thing against a window so I'm guessing thats what the earlier thing becomes, we see a fucking full frontal shot of a holographic pilot and so much more.
Idris must have watched Jekyll and decided that he wanted to do a Southern accent that's a little more believable than Paterson Joseph's channeling of Foghorn Leghorn. I love Paterson Joseph in Peep Show and That Mitchell and Webb Look, but his accent in Jekyll is just horrendous. Comparing black British actors' Southern accents, Idris' accent is great in this clip using Joseph's as the standard. Technically Baltimore is south of the Mason/Dixon line and Idris was Stringer Bell and I never knew he was from England until midway through "The Wire", so Elba can do no wrong in my book in terms of his acting.
I'll see your movie Noomi Rapace, even though you have yet to respond to the dozens of love letters I've sent. Maybe I should try flowers instead.....
When Ridley Scott said Prometheus was going to be epic, nobody realised he meant the marketing campaign, not the film.
Real shame too, considering how amazing the original Alien trailer was.
Bawawawaaaaa! A sound like that makes me want to kick the "composer" in the nuts.
I guess i'll mention again that there was that scientific study that found that spoilers do not reduce one's enjoyment of the spoiled material and in most cases increase enjoyment.
Oh well if science says it's ok then I'll guess I'll start reading wikipedia summaries before I see films.
"Oh, well if you point to this researched fact, I will go to a needless logical extreme to make it seem ridiculous because I don't agree with it due to anecdotal fallacy"
This is what you sound like to me.
There was once a scientific study that said the Earth was flat and ships would sail off the edge of the Earth if they went too far. Spoilers suck - that's just my personal point of view.
That is what rewatches are for though. I love going in to a movie fresh getting suprised and then buying that film just to go through it with to see what I missed, that is one of the joys about cinema especially when it is by people who are creating layered material like the Kubricks and the Nolans and so on.
It seems you either thought "brent sienna" said what I said or meant to reply to his comment and not mine. either way what I said had nothing to do with the original point of the comment. I just wondered if you expected him to link to a scientific study done generations ago or a link that referenced what his personal point of view was.
I don't really care about the actual point of this sub-thread because you're both right.
to the study. see, that's the thing about science; there may well have once been such a "scientific" study. but there have been other studies since that proved that study, if there was one, incorrect. your personal point of view is great, but it's possible you're confused about what your pov actually is. if you read the methodology of the study, it may be that your enjoyment is enhanced by spoilers and you're not aware of it.
I'll give an actual example. because of the nature of the script and the way the film was made, the movie psycho is actually way more enjoyable if you know [SPOILER] that norman bates gets dressed up as his mother and that his mother is actually dead. it makes lines that seem weird or innocuous on first viewing have much deeper meaning.
I usually don't hold a grudge, but I'm still angry about them using the wow signal.
These days, you need to go on a self imposed media black-out to enjoy a movie spoiler free.
Oh yeah I look like a god damned lunatic in some cinemas because as soon as a trailer comes on for a film I care about I literally shut my eyes and cup my hands over my ears.
I've stopped watching trailers long ago. I look to TV spots. Too short to do much damage.
I don't watch trailers anywhere but the theater; my favorite thing to do is to see how quick i can yell out the correct title. sometimes i even surprise myself, like before 3 stooges i yelled out "step up 2 or maybe 3!" and then i was like, "or maybe "dance dance revolution?" because of the plot of the trailer. and then they showed the title at the end and it was "step up revolution," and i was like, am i good or what?
