Don’t Panic…Unless You Can’t Get Tickets

Today is Towel Day, the annual celebration of the life and works of Douglas Adams. There is no better way to commemorate this event than by watching the above trailer for the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy: Radio Show: Live! The 24-date tour featuring performances of episodes of the BBC radio series that started it all travels throughout the UK from June 8th to July 21st…and it’s the perfect reason to get your passport in order. As you can see, all of the surviving cast will be participating, with special guests — including Billy Boyd, Terry Jones and Neil Gaiman — filling in for the late Peter Jones as the Voice of the Book. The ringleader of this event is Dirk Maggs, the man who previously adapted Life, the Universe and Everything, So Long and Thanks for all the Fish, Mostly Harmless and the Dirk Gently books for BBC radio. In other words, this material couldn’t be in better hands.

I’ll be honest with you folks, for me this is easily the most exciting piece of news I have ever posted on this site. As a hardcore Hitchhiker’s Guide fan the notion of seeing the people who originally brought this story to life together on one stage thrills me in a way I’m not sure I completely understand. (Let’s just say that there is tingling involved). Sadly, like most U.S. based fans of the saga, I won’t be seeing this live. There’s some solace to take in the fact that there will be downloads from the various shows available on the event’s website. But maybe if we all pray to the Great Green Arkleseizure the tour will somehow reach our shores.
