Poor Brainiac... major villain for decades, can't get a movie gig to save his life...
@jedicreeper They've probably tried in the pre-production to mock him up into a film format without making him look goofy. It will be interesting to see what they do with Thanos in the upcoming Avengers sequels in that respect.
Yay my profile pic is finally there! Anyway, I can't see I'm eagerly looking forward to Ironman 3 or the new Superman movie, and I don't read western comic books really, so these spoilers a)went over my head and b) are something I don't really care about
@Calcite Wow, it's almost like you shouldn't have commented on this post AT ALL! Congratulations for adding a few decibels to the communal "meh" of the internet.
Actually, the Black Zero thing's been rumored for a while. Unfortunately it means Man of Steel is basically going to be a truncated version of an entire stupid season of Smallville.
And I'm not keen on this comment system either, but I guess that's nothing to do with Rob.
I´d never imagined that the movie would be a Megaman Crossover

I just learned there's a couple of different things in the Superman comics called Black Zero. It's alternately a Silver Age villain, Superboy clone, a computer virus, a terrorist organization, and a Kryptonian military unit (that worked for Zod).
In the comics he came to Earth to destroy it as well. Superman released Jax-Ur from the Phantom Zone to stop Black Zero once and for all. Since Michael Shannon has said he's playing Zod and not Black Zero I'm going to guess that he will be taking Jax-Ur's place as the one released from the Phantom Zone to help take down Black Zero and then causing all sorts of complications in the future for Superman.
I think the problem with the initial fight was it was just so out of left field and lacking any kind of real content. big guy no one has ever seen before just appears from nowhere and punches everyone to death. that was literally the entire plot at the time. years later they expanded more on the character and made him kind of interesting (and then expanded on him even further and made him terrible again later on actually...), but at the time the original Doomsday story really just reeked of being pulled out of their ass just for the sake of killing Superman off.
would kinda make sense given the syntax of "Black Zero Escape" instead of "Superman vs. Black Zero" like all the other vs. ones are labeled.
I read on another site that Zod is the villain in Man of Steel and that the Phantom Zone has been renamed Black Zero. That also works with the Lego set name. Don't know if it's true but that's what they reported.
Eh.. maybe every 90s fanboy that bought into the hype. I kinda thought it was weird as I was just getting into comics at the time. I found the whole four replacement Supermen more interesting and since then Superboy and Steel have become great characters. Yet the whole Death of Superman was pretty much a death of creativity at DC... and one they continue to try to beat to this day.. in both cheap stunt events and killing creativity at the company.
Not to sound like every fanboy that claims to know exactly how to make a Superman movie series.. but I've had an idea for a Superman / DC movie series for years. It's funny since Marvel is doing exactly what I have said DC needs to do with Superman and Darkseid and the New Gods. Actually, Marvel is weaving even more characters into it. I kept saying they needed to have : Superman movie 1 - Establish Lex as a respected buisiinessman dabbling in strange tech and weapons he might sell on the black market. Superman vs Metallo with Intergang in the background and Superman thinking Lex is behind the tech. Yet the end of the movie reveals it's actually Braniac working with Lex. Superman movie 2 - So the next one is Superman vs Bainiac, maybe have Kandor. Superman thinks Braniac is behind Intergang and its alien tech. Nope. Once Superman defeats Brainiac at the end, Braniac reveals there's a bigger threat then he. Maybe it's why Braniac was on Earth, Morrison kinda touched on this with his new run on action. There's something bigger coming to conquor Earth and Braniac was going to preserve it before that coming doom. And that doom has a name.. Darkseid. Superman 3 or JLA movie - Then you would have Superman vs Darkseid or just go into a JLA movie. Apokolips invades Earth Maybe also a New Gods movie like how Marvel is doing Gurdians of the Galaxy. Though.. actually.. pretty much already got the closest thing we may get to a New Gods with Marvel's Thor. I forgot how close to the set up to Marvel's Asguard the New Gods was, with the whole Loki being a Frost Giant child being adopted by Odin similar to Highfather adopting Darkseid's son Orion. (Though there was no trade of Thor to the Frost Giants the way Darkseid took in Scott Free.) If you squint during Thor or Avengers, the Frost Giant or Thanos kinda looks like Darkseid. Sadly, DC can't get Warners to even make one decent Superman movie so far. Batman only worked for them in one small vision of one director with a finite trilogy. It was an interesting version of Batman.. but was it the only way to bring the character to screen and a really good movie to bring the rest of the DC Universe to film? Of course not. Hell, Burton barely made it to two.. and even then I think Returns was a mess. Same goes for Singer with his own damn Returns as a remake / sequel failed reboot of Superman. Green Lantern? Ugh. Wonder Woman couldn't even get a TV show pilot that wasn't ridiculous and insulting to the character. So now Marvel has Thanos as their big bad with his courtship of Death and DC is nowhere near presenting Darkseid and his quest for the Anti-Life Equation. Get your shit together, DC.
I know. I acknoweledge his importance in Superman mythos, but besides nothing in him seems like it'd make a good 60 minutes of screentime. Imagine if the X-Men films swapped out Magneto for Hulk, and it was just Hulk trying to smash the X-Men and never talking anything other than roars. That would not be more interesting. It would be fatiguing(sp?). So I must say, in this instance, the people are wrong.
I would like to happily note that Lego Superman appears to still be wearing red undies.
@Sonicsnout - ha! That's what I noticed. The red trunks make the Superman. Without them, you're Ultraman!
I just think its the absolute lowest common denominator. The whole Death of Superman arc, while pretty epic, was just issues and issues of them punching each other. Which for comics is pretty awesome, but... it doesn't make for an interesting film villain, especially when there are FAR more interesting villains to adapt to film.
Yeah.. even I had to look up the name. Black Zero as a character was pre-crisis and Superboy enemy post Crisis. Though it seems that it was also the name of Zod's group and even Smallville used the name for that.
huh every superman fan ive met seems to cream themselves at the fight between superman and doomsday though i don't know much about him is he poorly written or is it just a general dislike with snyder as director id be very surprised it if the sequels third act isn't just a fight between the two in slow and then fast motion
I agree that Brainiac is overdue, although anything that isn't Doomsday gets points. I don't want it to ever be Doomsday.
Well he was originally gonna call himself Zero, but he's an African-American and this is the comics world sooooooooo................
Aquaman on Ice is probably the greatest name of a LEGO set EVER. I will buy all of them. ALL OF THEM. DO YOU HEAR ME YOU HAIRLESS APES?
Probably going to ruin the fun here, but Black Zero is also the name of Kryptonian military force, under the command of Ursa, so I am going to bet that Zod and his group are called Black Zero
Oh, please sweet Jesus, let it be an evil alternate-reality version of Superman's half-human clone son, PLEASE...
Brainiac and at least a few DC fans hoping and waiting for good DC movies. Maybe they can share razors and My Chemical Romance albums together, with all of the unlove they seem to get. I really do hope they go another route for the Supes movie (I.e. a GOOD movie, filled with action, and 100% less Maury Povich styled "is he the father" subplots), but I don't know how hope I dare retain. But come on DC. By the old gods and the new, if we don't get a quality universe in the next decade (ugh. Decade. What a depressing measurement of "get their shit together" time, but it may still be generous given their track record) I think we should rise up and start funding good fan movies by people that care about the characters. Someone should kickstart THAT. And the legal fund for the inevitable lawsuit.
