Star Trek 2 Has a Title That Isn’t Star Trek 2

Let’s get down to brass tacks, folks: J.J. Abrams has revealed the title of the second nu-Trek movie, and it’s Star Trek Into Darkness. No colon. So Kirk and the rest of the Enterprise are going to trek into darkness, apparently.

I’m not going to pretend this is the biggest deal in the world — and I doubt that the title is going to push anyone over the edge from liking the new Trek-verse into not liking it — but man, it irritates me. There’s a reason makers of franchise movies don’t do this, and it’s because Star Wars With a Phantom Menace and Terminator 2 On the Judgment Day just sound awkward and weird and a little dumb, and that’s without using an already unusual word like “trek” in there.
