I don't understand why everyone's going on about bringing any of the actors or characters from the previous movies. Singer produced the previous Last Class movie. All that happened was that Vaughn and Singer swapped titles. The only thing that will change is how it's shot. Chill the fuck out people.
I remember being so excited when X-Men originally came out, and overall disappointed when I finally got to see it. I wanted it to be more...exciting, I mean, do you know how hard it is to make Wolverine dull? I thought the second movie was much better than the first. You were dropped right into the action. I'm not going to even comment on three. Then Origins came along, it didn't fit with anything in the trilogy so I looked at it as separate. Now comes First Class, which does almost everything I wanted in the first place and I look at it as a new start. Too bad they don't seem to.
Screw the X-Men. I'm going to watch Avengers again.
For all the hate poured on "Last Stand," (which to be fair was more the studio directive than Rattner), Singer totally dropped the ball on "Superman Returns." He could have given us a great reboot of the franchise (the bits of young Clark learning his powers were wonderful) but instead a sequel to a 1970's film with a cast that, frankly, wasn't up to par for it was terrible. You cast Kevin Spacey as Lex Luthor but have it be the lame "real estate swindle" version with a plot that makes no sense (how does wiping out half the U.S. serve to make you richer when the economy is destroyed by your actions?) was terrible and don't start on Bosworth. So yes, I'm a bit worried on this, Singer trying to recapture his early films which, as others have pointed out, now come off aged compared to the freshness of "Avengers" or Nolan's Batman.

Couldn't be less excited for this. Never thought the original X-Men movies were anything worth writing home about, and Superman Returns was hot garbage. Fox needs to do a full reboot on X-Men as everyone involved seems to be old as hell and the continuity is totally messed up.

I did enjoy them at the time.. but I saw them again recently and.. damn. They have not aged well. First Class really should have been left as a total reboot. It was a nice clean start.
And since when the fuck does adding time travel to a franchise ever clear things up?!
@TheXenos I also enjoyed them when I was a kid, I'd just hit 13 when the first one came out so I was excited to see a big comic book movie. Looking back outside of the casting of Stewart and Sir Ian, there's not too much to love. Maybe some can be forgiven because it paved the way for other franchises, but too many liberties were taken imo.
The cast from those movies is just so old now I don't see how they can possibly reboot without recasting. X-Men is supposed to be a series about teenagers after all.
Very damn good point. They should focus on a young cast, not even on twenty to thirty somethings, never mind having older cast from their thirties and forties reprising their roles for Singer.
Surely adapting Days of Future Past is just a way to get Wolverine into the main X-Movies again, if not to fix the time frame permanently for the next one. It seems like the last throw of the dice before a full-on reboot

Bah! They should have just let the damned last films.. which was even called First Class.. be a reboot! There are so many errors to try and correct between that film and even the first two Singer ones! Why bother?! Sure McKellan and Stewart were great, but just let Fassbender and Mr. Tumnus take over now.
Nothing about this damned sequel makes sense. They left the last film off with Magneto forming the Brotherhood of Mutants. You can have an entire film about Xavier facing off against him as an actual mutant liberation terrorist force in the 60s and 70s.
You don't even have Scott, Jean, Bobby, or warren on the team.. and you're already moving onto a story that focuses on Kitty Pryde as the protagonist with Wolverine and all the second generation X-men?! The first actual team of X-men haven't even been introduced. And bringing back the old cast of the Singer films is just gonna muck things up!
Argh. They just killed this franchise just as it was restarting.

Bleh! Singer is one step too late to try and win my heart back after banking all of his cash and credibility on "Emoman Returns". Sorry, Singer, but I'm with Whedon now! We love each other, and it's in the best interest of everyone if you just leave now!
To be fair, when taking a long long long form medium like the serialized comic and the superhero genre and X-men in particular.. there's no damned way you're fitting even one decent sized arc and all its characters into two hours. You have to distill them down into two hours. I think Emma Frost was the worst bit.. but the acting and bad characterization was what did that in, not the shortening of story. I think First Class may have done a better job of catching the tone and characters then even Nolan's bit too somber and 'real' Batman films. They weren't afraid to show you a man.. er.. mutant can fly.
Speaking of believing a man can fly.. yeah.. now we have Singer attempting to do another reboot / sequel. Didn't he learn from his Superman fiasco that he shoulda just let the film be a damn reboot? They're trying to shoehorn in the prior Singer movies.. which is just a huge mistake. Those movies took even more leeway with the story and characters, even if you ignore the third one and Wolverine one. Pretty much Stewart and McKellan and Jackman are the only things you need to keep and you don't need to reboot to keep actors on. Hell, the Bond films kept Judi Dench as M when they restarted with Craig. (Ignoring the fan theory that James Bond is a codename and all films are in continuity.)
Why is Fox and Singer trying to bring back the old X-men films. Have you seen them lately? They really really haven't aged well. They're from an age when comic book superhero films seemed pretty ashamed to admit they were from superhero comics. They were when heroes were forced to wear black leather and make offhanded jokes at the fanboys about yellow spandex. Hell, I'd complain a major flaw of the Nolan films is still continuing that. Meanwhile, First Class wore their bright yellow superhero costumes and flew those colors proudly. Why on Earth would they want to mix that with the old films? They had a fresh start all ready to go.. and now they want to go back to almost the 90s with bringing back the old films. They really weren't that good. Singer should just allow this fresh new start to take root.
I agree with you on pretty much everything, except Nolan. I don't think anyone really wants to see Batman in anything but black.

Just let your movie be a damned film be a straight up reboot and quit trying to shoehorn in a prior film series that is already dead.
Actually ABC (now part of Disney) had done the Young Indiana Jones TV show a few years back with River Phoenix and a Harrison Ford cameo and ABC also did the ewoks show so Lucas does have some history with ABC(Disney).
I wonder if CBS and Disney can come to a agreement to release the Star Wars Holiday Special, I really enjoyed the animated story with Boba Fett. That's about all I enjoyed from it but I have to have a complete Star Wars collection....
